DAY 4 | CHARLOTTETOWN - CAPE BRETON (B, D) Following breakfast we return to Nova Scotia from PEI via the Confederation Bridge to visit the historic Hector Quay in Pictou, home to a replica of The Hector, which transported early settlers from Scotland to Nova Scotia. Take a tour of the Grohmann Knife Company and learn the art of knife making from the makers of world- recognized knives. Later, depart for Cape Breton and visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and Historic Site. Situated on 10 hectares of land with a superb view of the Bras d’Or Lake in Baddeck on Cape Breton Island, the site overlooks Bell’s summer home, Beinn Bhreagh, still privately owned by his descendants. We’ll enjoy dinner at Telegraph House, built in 1861, once containing the office of the first Trans-Oceanic Cable Company. Some of the first telegraph messages in North America were sent from this location. Overnight in Cape Breton (2 nights) DAY 5 | CAPE BRETON (B, D) After breakfast, depart for the Cabot Trail. A highway and scenic roadway, the Cabot Trail is named after the explorer John Cabot who landed in Atlantic Canada in 1497. Its northern section of the Cabot Trail passes through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Your Itinerary | Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner = (B, L, D) DAY 1 | ARRIVE IN MONCTON (D) After arriving in Moncton, we meet local students from Birchmount School and enjoy dinner with them before a brief orientation at our hotel. Overnight in Moncton DAY 2 | MONCTON - CHARLOTTETOWN (B, D) After breakfast, depending on the tide we will visit Hopewell Rocks where at low tide you may be able to walk among the ‘flower pot’ eroded rocks. Visit Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland Historic Site, the fort depicting the 18th century conflicts between France and Britain, and the later struggle between America and Britain for North American supremacy. Afterwards, we visit Magnetic Hill, a natural phenomenon unique to the area. Later travel across Confederation Bridge for your arrival in Charlottetown. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Charlottetown (2 nights) DAY 3 | CHARLOTTETOWN (B, D) After breakfast, depart on a guided city tour of Charlottetown, visiting the Confederation Centre for the Arts – with "Confederation Hall" - a recreation of the signing of Canada's constitution. The western and eastern sections follow the rugged coastline, with views of the ocean. The southwestern section passes through the Margaree River valley before passing along Bras d'Or Lake. We finish the day with dinner in Cape Breton. DAY 6 | CAPE BRETON - TRURO (B, D) After breakfast, visit the Cape Breton Miner’s Museum, which pays tribute to the region’s long and rich history of coal mining. It is home to profound stories of miners and their families. The Museum is also home to the famous choir of miners – The Men of the Deeps. Tour an underground mine, browse the exhibits, and stroll through a historic village situated on the picturesque coast. Afterwards, visit the Louisbourg Fortress, a National Historic Site of Canada and a reconstruction of an 18th century French fortress. Its two sieges, especially that of 1758, were turning points in the Anglo-French struggle for what today is Canada. Later we stop in Truro for dinner. Visit the Maritime museum and learn about small craft boat-building, World War Convoys, the Days of Sail to the Age of Steam, the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion. Time permitting, spend the remainder of the afternoon exploring other historic properties in Halifax, before dinner. DAY 10 | HALIFAX - TO HOME (B) After breakfast, you’ll have one final activity before preparing to depart home via the Halifax airport. Options include the Uniacke House and Sherbrooke Village.
