On the first day, the expedition begins with a hike through the midst of ancient Inca remains and natural landscapes, from where one enters through the Sun portal “Sun Gate” and continues onto the lost city of MachuPicchu. In the evening, an opportunity to relax in the hot springs of the nearby city of Aguas Calientes. It is designed to enable a user propelled by gravity to travel Zip Line from the top to the bottom of Cusco the inclined cable by holding onto, or attaching to, the freely moving pulley. 32 33 Zip Line in the Sacred Valley | Half Day The Sacred Valley zip-line gives people of all ages the opportunity to fly over this magical and magnificent valley, in a safe and fun way. A zip-line (also known as a flying fox, zip wire, aerial runway) consists of a pulley suspended on a cable mounted on an incline. It is designed to enable a user propelled by gravity to traverse from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable, by holding on or attaching to the freely moving pulley. The zip line has 6 lines or cables, from 100mt to 500mt, for a total of 2000mt. To get to the first line, a 35-minute hike is made, some parts equipped with a via ferrata system to give maximum security and confidence to all adventurous people, then you’ll have around 4 hours to zip-line. No experience required. 34 35 Iquitos At Charo Lake, you can bait your hooks to try to catch one of Iquitos Amazonia’s fearsome piranhas Fishing (and other fish as well). 36 37 Charo Lake Fishing Trip Charo Lake Fishing Trip. We provide a history and description of the Inca archaeological complex of Choque- quirao, located high on a narrow ridge above the Apurimac River in a remote region of the Vilcabamba of Peru. We suggest that Choquequirao was built as a royal estate during the late 15th century by the Inca ruler, Topa Inca Yupanki, modeled after Machu Picchu. It was built in part by workers imported from Cachapoyas in Northern Peru. The site has alignments with the June and December solstices suggesting a strong solar focus and year-round ceremonial activi- ties. A large truncated hill served as a ceremonial platform or ushnu. The platform was accessed through a double-jamb entranceway, indicating that passage was probably limited to those of high status. We suspect Choquequirao functioned as a ceremonial center. It shares with Machu Picchu the remoteness, ‘other worldliness’, and liminality that are found in many pilgrimage centers of the world. Though Choquequirao, high above the Apurimac River, has a location that is equally as dramatic as Machu Picchu, it lacks the formable geological material required to create imperial-style monumental structures and shaped stone huacas.

The origin of the Yale Peruvian Expedition of 1911 lay in my desire to solve the problem of the last Inca capital and the country occupied by Manco Inca and his successors for thirty-five years after his revolt against Pizarro. On a journey across Peru from Cuzco to Lima on mule-back, in 1909, 1 I had visited Choqque- quirau, an interesting group of ruins on a ridge sur- rounded by precipices 6,000 feet above the bottom of the Apurimac valley. The local traditions had it that this place was the home of Manco Inca after he fled from Pizarro's conquering hosts. 2 It was recorded that he took with him into the fastnesses of Vilcabamba3 a great quantity of treasure, besides his family and courtiers. Nevertheless, Prescott does not mention the name of Vilcabamba, and only says that Manco fled into the most inaccessible parts of the cordillera. When the great Peruvian geographer, Raimondi, visited this region about the middle of the XIX Century no one seems to have thought of telling him there were any ruins in the Vilcabamba valley or indeed in the Uru- bamba valley below Ollantaytambo.
