YENISEYSK the Town of SPIRITUAL HERITAGE YENISEYSK IS the TOWN of SPIRITUAL HERITAGE, an OPEN AIR MUSEUM WHERE EVERYTHING IS SATURATED with CENTURIES-OLD HISTORY YENISEYSK THE town OF SPIRITUAL HERITAGE YENISEYSK IS THE TOWN OF SPIRITUAL HERITAGE, AN OPEN AIR MUSEUM WHERE EVERYTHING IS SATURATED WITH CENTURIES-OLD HISTORY. IT IS ONE OF THE OLDEST SIBERIAN TOWNS FOUNDED BY THE COSSACKS AS A FORTRESS ON THE LEFT BANK OF THE YENISEI RIVER IN 1619. FOR A CENTURY AND A HALF THIS TOWN WAS THE MAIN PORTAL TO EASTERN SIBERIA. IN THE XIX CENTURY YENISEYSK WAS THE LARGEST TOWN OF YENISEI PROVINCE AND ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN SIBERIA. IT WAS INCLUDED IN THE TOP TEN COUNTRY TOWNS OF THE RUSSIAN STATE. Seredkina Siberian Federal University, Russian Federation Email: [email protected] Doi:10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n3s5p225 Abstract There are two factors affecting the way that Nenets and Dolgan people of Taymyr define their regional identity: 1) their traditional trade (reindeer herding); 2) ethnic art-making where the reindeer acts as an image and a symbol of ethnic traditions, touchstones, and values found among the indigenous peoples of Taymyr. Field research was conducted in Taymyr settlements (such as Nosok, Karaul, and Khatanga) from 2010 to 2014. The researchers interviewed Nenets and Dolgan people who belong to non-governmental organizations representing Taymyr indigenous peoples, run businesses or work in government agencies, schools, and other organizations implementing cultural policies. Indigenous peoples have very low economic and social activity. The Dolgans also have a very poor standard of living due to lack of reindeer. The Post-Soviet era has seen an income gap growing between the Dolgans and the Nenets and unequal economic groups being formed. Reviving reindeer herding is essential. Nenets and Dolgan reindeer herding is an economically inefficient subsidized branch of agriculture, but its role is symbolic rather than economic. Nenets and Dolgan reindeer herding is an ethnicity-forming and ethnicity-sustaining factor.

The objective of this work was to study the attitudes towards the city in the student youth of Yeniseysk and the young growing city of Lesosibirsk. The following materials were studied: the history of Yeniseysk, cultural heritage, the city as a concentration of cultural heritage, the cultural heritage of Yeniseysk.The paper describes the history of Yeniseysk as a city with a rich cultural heritage, which needs to be studied and preserved. Much of the study is devoted to the analysis of "cultural heritage" category, and various aspects of the concept,which are presented in the national and foreign scientific literature. It is proved that the city as a place for developing the cultural values includes the possibility of their preservation. A brief description of the cultural heritage of Yeniseysk and its natural cultural landscape is presented.Methods of study: questioning, content analysis, survey and results analysis of the integrated database to achieve the goals of this scientific work.Trial and experimental part of the study was the development of website "My Yeniseysk.

MEADE US Geological Survey, MS 413, Box 25046, Denver, Colorado 80225, USA Abstract The northward-flowing rivers of Siberia deliver immense quantities of water but only relatively small quantities of sediment to the Arctic Ocean. The relatively low delivery of sediment to the ocean by these rivers is explained by the large areas of forest and swamp in their basins. In the Ob’ River, sediment yields tend to increase between the headwaters and Kamen’ na Obi. Further downstream, sediment yields gradually decrease. Near the mouth of the Ob’ River, at Salekhard, sedi­ ment yield has remained constant at about 5.3 t km-2 year'1. In the lower Yenisey River, the already small natural sediment yield of 5.41 km'2 year'1 has been decreased several fold by the construction of massive reservoirs on the main stem and on the tributary Angara River, and presently equals 1.8 t km'2 year"1. INTRODUCTION Intensive collection of sediment data in the rivers of the Soviet Union (including Siberia) began during 1935-1938. The stations where sediment discharge is measured presently number about 240 in the Ob’ River basin and about 220 in the Yenisey River basin. The rivers are divisible into three parts: the upper reaches where suspended sediment is mobilized; the middle reaches where sediment is transported, deposited, and re­ mobilized downstream; and the lower reaches where sediment accumulates (Polyakov, 1935; Lopatin, 1939; 1952; Shamov, 1954).

Prof. Barr has published numerous books and articles on the history of exploration of the Arctic. In 2006, William Barr received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the recorded history of the Canadian North from the Canadian Historical Association. As well, Prof. Barr, a known admirer of Russian Arctic explorers, has been credited with making known to the wider public the exploits of Polar explorations by Russia and the Soviet Union. HISTORY OF ARCTIC SHIPPING UP UNTIL 1945 Northwest Passage The history of the search for a navigable Northwest Passage by ships of European nations is an extremely long one, starting as early as 1497. Initially the aim of the British and Dutch was to find a route to the Orient to grab their share of the lucrative trade with India, Southeast Asia and China, till then monopolized by Spain and Portugal which controlled the route via the Cape of Good Hope. In 1497 John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto), sponsored by King Henry VII of England, sailed from Bristol in Mathew; he made a landfall variously identified as on the coast of Newfoundland or of Cape Breton, but came no closer to finding the Passage (Williamson 1962). Over the following decade or so, he was followed (unsuccessfully) by the Portuguese seafarers Gaspar Corte Real and his brother Miguel, and also by John Cabot’s brother Sebastian, who some theorize, penetrated Hudson Strait (Hoffman 1961). The first expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage that are definitely known to have reached the Arctic were those of the English captain, Martin Frobisher in 1576, 1577 and 1578 (Collinson 1867; Stefansson 1938).

It estimates the potential and directions of socio- economical development of the territories of the indigenous minorities’ traditional settlement and traditional economical activity.     Cities of Yenisei and Lena River Basins: a Curriculum Guide by Devon Lechtenberg, REEEC Introduction: The Yenisei and Lena river basins constitute a massive portion of the land area of the Russian Federation east of the Urals. Although these river basins are geographically distinct from one another, they will be treated together in this guide for the sake of convenience. The region surrounding the Yenisei River Basin is of critical economic importance to the Russian Federation. Mining and metallurgy are key industries in the region, with an aluminum works in Krasnoyarsk and nickel mining and refining in Norilsk. The Lena River Basin is a sparsely populated region of Russia known for its remoteness and very cold temperatures. This curriculum guide is intended to serve as a brief introduction to the major rivers and cities of these regions. Goals of Lesson for Students: The goal of this lesson plan is to familiarize students with the basic human geography of the regions surrounding the Yenisei and Lena river basins.
