Pesticide contentcontent in ssoil,oil, water andand products of agriculture in Zhytomyr region of UkraineUkraine waswas examined,examined, anandd accumulation of organochlorine pesticides by freshwatereshwater bivabivalvelve mmollusksollusks wwasas assessed. Storage facilities of Zhytomyr region containntain nnearlyearly 392.18 t ofof pesticidespesticides iinn 137 warehouses, of which 11 meet the requirements,ments, 3366 aarere ttolerable,olerable, aandnd 90 araree iin poor condition. 39.07 t of pesticides are kept iinn containecontainersrs ooff ggoodood qquality,uality, 222.432.43 t are kept in tolerable containers, and storagee ccontainersontainers of ootherther ppesticidesesticides areare of poor quality. In 2018−2019, pesticide contentntent (dichl(dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethaneorodiphenyltrichloroethan (DDT), heptachlor, dichlorodiphenyldichloroethyleneodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane (DDD),(DDD), hexachlorocyclohexanehexachlorocyclohexane ((HCH))HCH was studied in soil and sediments in Zhytomyromyr rregion.egion. TThehe ccontentontent rarangednged ffromr 0.0007 to 0.07 mg/kg, which is lower than MPCMPC (0.1(0.1 m mg/kg/kg).g). TheThe contentcontent of HHCH,C DDT, DDE, DDD and heptachlor was at 0.00070007−0.010.01 mg/dmmg/dm3 levelslevels iinn wwaterater bbodieso of Zhytomyr region in 2018-2019, also lowerower thathann MMPC.PC. In a numbernumber ofof sampless of soil, water and vegetables, the recordedcorded levelevelsls ooff DDT aandnd organorganophosphateop pesticides Dragon, Dorpan, and Dursbanursban exceededexceeded MPCMPC iinn 11.5.5–3.03.0 ttimes. Traces of organochlorine pesticide Aldrindrin wwereere ffoundound in soft titissuesssues ooff bibivalveval mollusks and in the sediments of water bodiesdies theythey inhabit.inhabit. Introduction RelevanceRelevance of the topic.topic. UkraineUk has ratified the Stockholm Convention (23 May 2001)2001) with the LLawaw of Ukrainein N 949-V (949-16) of April 18, 2007. According to the Convention,Convention, perspersistentistent organicorg pollutants (POP) are recognized as toxic, resistant to decomposition,decomposition, bioacbioaccumulative,cum and are subject to transboundary movements by air, waterwater andand withwith migratingmigra species. POP are also deposited at a great distance from the sourcesource of theirtheir eemission,mi accumulating in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems [13]. By tthishis conventionconvention DDT, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, chlordane, mirex, toxaphene, heptachlor arere iincludedncluded to the list of most dangerous substances. Long-termLon application of pesticides has led to large-scale environmental pollution over huge territories. The migration of toxic compounds in ecosystems causes the accumulation of residual amounts of pesticides in natural objects. 581 ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Today it is important to monitor both the storage conditions of pesticides, a lot of which are still kept in Zhytomyr Region of Ukraine [7], and the pesticide content in soil, water bodies, products of agriculture, and in aquatic organisms. Aim and tasks of the study. Study aim: to conduct ecological monitoring of pesticides in Zhytomyr region and to prepare recommendations on decreasingeasing the pesticide levels in environment. The following tasks were chosen to fulfill the study aim: 1. Analysis of storage and utilization of the banned and unsuitablensuitable ppesticidesesticides in warehouses of Zhytomyr region. 2. Determination of pesticide content in soil, wwaterater aandnd products ooff agriculture in Zhytomyr region. 3. Assessment of bioaccumulation of organochlorineganochlorine ppesticidesesticides bbyy freshwater bivalve mollusks. 4. Development of recommendations foror ddecreasingecreasing the pestpesticideicide levels iinn environment. Scientific novelty of obtained results.s. Implementing Entity/Responsible Partners: United Nations Development Programme Brief Description: The objective of this project is to accelerate implementation of energy efficiency measures in public buildings in Ukraine through the ESCO modality, utilising EPC contracts, by leveraging over significant private sector investment over its five-year implementation period, including through the launching of a financial support mechanism, as well as by introducing a single nationwide energy management information systems (EMIS) for Ukraine. Over the same period, the 10 pilot EPC energy savings projects scheduled for implementation in 10 different municipalities in Ukraine will save 2,346 MWh of thermal energy and 268 MWh of electrical energy. Moving forward, these 10 pilots will annually save 1,870 MWh of thermal energy and 166 MWh of electrical energy until the useful equipment life of 20 years, resulting in a total reduction of 8,893 tons of CO2 over the 20-year equipment lifetime.

    ВИПУСК № 14 Irina NESEN Kyiv THE HORSE IN THE WEDDING RITUAL OF CENTRAL POLISSIA The wedding ritual as a complicated and developed system conceals various symbols and plots associated with them, which are represented by some characters. Sometimes they are animals reflecting different surrounding objects and phenomena. Such phenomenon forms a special zoological code1. In old times animals were objects of the cult (zoolatry). But this phenomenon is not always connected with totemism2. Horse occupies a prominent place among such animals and it is one of the oldest cultural symbols. But its role in the wedding ceremony is not examined enough because of the lack of the source base. A chief aim of the article is to distinguish horse role and place in Central Polissia wedding ritual. The research is based on the field materials gathered by the author on the region territory during the expedition, exactly in 30 villages of Emilchyns’kyi, Luhyns’kyi, Malyns’kyi, Narodyts’kyi, Ovryts’kyi, Olevs’kyi districts (Zhytomyr region), Ivankivs’kyi, Polis’kyi, Chornobyl’skyi districts (Kyiv region), Rokytnivs’kyi district (Rivne region), Iziaslavs’kyi district (Khmelnytsk region). In the world’s mythology the horse is always associated with the male deities – patrons of different worlds. Very often it is an inhabitant of the upper world air and in this meaning it possesses some birds features and is a zoomorphic deity or a helper at the last3. Among the Indo-Europeans horse is not only an assistant of the god of fire Agni, but a cosmic animal, whose parts are associated with the main parts of our Universe4.

The author has analyzed the determining factors of the effectiveness of the government, local government, police, taking into account historical research for the 19th, 20th, and the last years of the 21st century. Archival documents have been used, some of which identify variables related to the Kyiv province, such as road construction, some of which are aimed at merchant’s perception of the attention received by logistics. Other sources emphasize the weaknesses of rural community’s actions regarding the quality of repair of bridges and dams. Finally, there are those who are critical of carriers who provided their services within and outside the province. Emphasis has been placed on the constant presence of police officers who monitored the quality and condition of roads in the settlements. This article is based on archival documents. Methods of analysis, systematization and classification have allowed to track the main array of data and conduct research. The Election Observation Delegation was composed of Andrej Plenkovič (EPP, Croatia), Anna Maria Corazza Bildt (EPP, Sweden), Tonino Picula (S&D, Croatia), Clare Moody (S&D, United Kingdom), Jussi Halla-aho (ECR, Finland), Kaja Kallas (ALDE, Estonia) and Miloslav Ransdorf (GUE, Czech Republic). It conducted its activities in Ukraine between 23 and 26 October, and was integrated in the International Election Observation Mission (IEOM) organised by ODIHR, together with the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. On election-day, members were deployed in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk. Programme of the DelegatIon In the framework of the International Election Observation Mission, the EP Delegation cooperated with the Delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, headed by Ms Gudrun Mosler-Törnström (Austria), while the OSCE/ODIHR long-term Election Observation Mission headed by Tana de Zulueta (Italy). The cooperation with the OSCE/ODIHR and the Congress went as usual and a compromise on the joint statement was reached (see annex B). Due to the fact that only two parliamentary delegations were present to observe the local elections, and had rather different expectations as regards meetings to be organised, it was agreed between all parties to limit the joint programme to a briefing by the core team of the OSCE/ODIHR.

Prof. Zhytomyr State Technological University EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE OF RAW MATERIAL COMPLEX USAGE WHILE MINING NATURAL FACING STONE Introduction. In Zhytomyr region natural facing stone is mined by open-pit techniques and it is used as raw material for construction and ritual items. Deposits of construction and ornamental facing stone are distributed unequally within region. Nine sites for mining and processing stone are established in Korostyshiv, Volodarsk-Volynsky, Zhytomyr, Cherniakhiv, Korosten, Malyn, Ovruch, as well as Olevsk and Radomyshl districts. Isometric stone is extracted from 100 deposits of Zhytomyr region. It is mined in horizontal layers with systematic deepening of mining works. According to the projects, the quarry depth is to be about several tens of meters deep. Such mining waste as overburden or substandard rock is kept into external dumps. Waste dumps are usually placed at a distance from several tens of meters to several hundreds of meters from the quarry. Fertile lands disturbed after mining exceed by 2 times the area of quarry fields, thus they are considered as non- agricultural lands. Considering the total area of lands disturbed by open-pit mining, facing stone quarries take the second place after iron-ore quarries. Along with economic losses after deposits mining, the environmental situation is also worsening. Aim and methods. Uncontrolled usage of recourses when low-waste and non-waste technologies are weakly implemented can cause large amount of wastes on different stages of raw material mining and during marketable production. In major cases the amount of waste exceeds the product yield.

    Vasyl Marochko (Kyiv) “Torgsin”: The Price in Gold of the Lives of Ukrainian Peasants during the Famine Years (1932–1933) The operations of the Torgsin (Russ. Torgovlia s inostrantsami, Trade with Foreigners) system remain completely unelucidated in the historical literature,1 although the problem itself bears directly on the disastrous years of hunger in Ukraine. In the 1930s, having lost confidence in the functioning of the Torgsin system, the people coined their own definition of the acronym “Torgsin”: Comrades, Russia is dying. Stalin is destroying the people (Tovarischi, Rossiia gibnet. Stalin istrebliaet narod). It was Ukraine that was dying first and foremost, particularly its agricultural population. During the years of the Holodomor, the Torgsin proved to be the only system of state commerce in whose stores, from the latter half of 1931, residents of the Ukrainian SSR could obtain the grain that had been taken from them in return for their so-called consumer gold. The Torgsin network of stores and points of purchase of gold, silver and diamonds became the Soviet people’s only hope of salvation from starving to death. The All-Union Torgsin office, established in the summer of 1930, was attached to the People’s Commissariat of Foreign Trade (PCFT) for the express purpose of serving foreign tourists.2 In January 1931 it was reorganized as a separate association with branches in Ukraine, specifically in Odesa, Kyiv and Kharkiv.
