Midvaal has help for students Executive Mayor Cllr Bongani Baloyi has launched the Mayoral Student Assistance Scheme. The initiative was unveiled during a special awards ceremony to honour the 2018 top performing matriculants, held at the Meyerton Town Hall, on January 25. The grant aims to give 20 students access to higher education, by contributing towards their registration fees for the 2019 academic year. The Mayoral Student Assistance Scheme follows a charity drive, initiated by Cllr Baloyi, which has raised more than R300 000 through several projects, including the annual Mayoral Golf Day. The remaining funds will be used for various educational projects which will be announced during the course of the year. “I strongly believe that at the very core of the many socio- economic challenges faced by this country and the rest of Africa is our lack of access to quality education. Through this scheme, we hope to do our part in helping to keep deserving students in school.” For more information and to apply for the Mayoral Student Assistance Scheme, visit www.midvaal.gov.za or email [email protected] – MLM press release "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." As it is the beginning of a new school year, we would like parents to be aware of the following important questions they should be asking when looking to enrol their children in a new school. · Is the school registered with the department of Education? A legally registered school will have an EMIS (electronic management information system ) number · Does the school have a health certificate not older than 2 years? · Does the school have a fire certificate not older than 2 years? · Are the educators registered with SACE (South African Council of Educators)? The above requirements also apply to schools using a home school curriculum. This information is necessary to ensure that your child is being educated in a safe and relevant environment. – Cathy Schade Arthur McDonald T/A MACJOBBING Principal of Hope Christian Academy Henley Watch alarms, Security , Gate motors, Electric fencing, Building and renovaons. When the Russians capture a locomotive belonging to the Germans or vice versa it is of no use to them. The Russian State Railways are of the five feet gauge and the Prussian State Railways being of the standard gauge, the captured locomotive must be mounted on a truck and conveyed to some junk yard in the rear. Probably when the contending powers begin to exchange prisoners they may also exchange locomotives. Meanwhile there must be engineering difficulties in transferring the locomotives to the trucks called in to service for their conveyance. Steelwings Midvaal MC donated R10,000 towards some of their sports equipment. We challenge all other bike and sports clubs to match this or do better.

The illustration shows a captured German locomotive on a Russian truck and about to be conveyed somewhere by a Russian locomotive. The subject is no occasion for joking but it reminds us somewhat of the man that bought a white elephant and had to pay more to get rid of the animal than the original cost. AubreyThe shares Dusi ishis coming knowledge Paddlers in Gauteng are preparing for the 2019 FNB Dusi River Race, the world's toughest canoe marathon - 120km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, over 3 days, with numerous areas where they have to take the boat out the water and walk/run carrying it before being able to put back into the river and continue paddling. This is in line with the original 1951 Dusi River Adventure organised by Ian Player when there were no dams for water release and their boats of wood and canvas were not suitable to shoot the mighty rapids. Uwe Schmidthaus who lives in Henley on Klip partnered with Great Grand Master (over 70 years of age) Franz Fischer, to do the Two Day Race organised by the Johannesburg Canoe Club, based at Wemmer Pan, to provide training opportunity for those planning to do the Dusi. They are seen here on the stretch of river next to Bass Lake

The race started on Saturday 26 January at the Heidelberg Road bridge, behind the Wimpy on the , paddling through Daleside, Henley on Klip to finish at the caravan park in Meyerton, a distance of some 30km with a few kilometres of portaging with the boat.
