  • The Blues Foundation Archives: Immersion and Preservation
The Blues Foundation Archives: Immersion and Preservation Stephanie Swindle Blues music, while still experienced through live performance, should also be documented and preserved in order to honor and promote one of the world's most essential genres of music. The influence of the blues tradition upon rock and roll artists of the nineteen fifties and sixties as well as upon the contemporary R&B and hip-hop musicians is evident in their similar subject matter, rhythmic underpinnings, and featured instrument - the guitar. Therefore, educating the public and providing scholars and fans with the resources to further appreciate and understand the blues is a significant task. The Blues Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted specifically to the preservation perpetuation of the blues. In its possession is twenty-five years worth of archival material that is in desperate need of preservation. The goal for this project is to work in conjunction with the staff and Executive Director of The Blues Foundation in order to write a grant proposal for a National Endowment for the Humanities preservation grant award. Organizing its archives, which is divided into photographs, autographed guitars, audio, video, concert, compact discs and cassettes, and miscellaneous, is the first step in a long process of preservation. In order to organize its media, The Blues Foundation will be served by submitting a grant proposal to the National Endowment for the Humanities to receive funding necessary to undertake such an elaborate project. Due to The Blues Foundation's vast amount of archival wealth, the Foundation and this project, in particular, merit NEH funding consideration.

  • Music Guide Music HISTORY There Was a Time When “Elevator Music” Was All You Heard in a Store, Hotel, Or Other Business
Music Guide Music HisTORY There was a time when “elevator music” was all you heard in a store, hotel, or other business. Yawn. 1 1971: a group of music fanatics based out of seattle - known as Aei Music - pioneered the use of music in its original form, and from the original artists, inside of businesses. A new era was born where people could enjoy hearing the artists and songs they know and love in the places they shopped, ate, stayed, played, and worked. 1 1985: DMX Music began designing digital music channels to fit any music lover’s mood and delivered this via satellite to businesses and through cable TV systems. 1 2001: Aei and DMX Music merge to form what becomes DMX, inc. This new company is unrivaled in its music knowledge and design, licensing abilities, and service and delivery capability. 1 2005: DMX moves its home to Austin, TX, the “Live Music capital of the World.” 1 Today, our u.s. and international services reach over 100,000 businesses, 23 million+ residences, and over 200 million people every day. 1 DMX strives to inspire, motivate, intrigue, entertain and create an unforgettable experience for every person that interacts with you. Our mission is to provide you with Music rockstar service that leaves you 100% ecstatic. Music Design & Strategy To get the music right, DMX takes into account many variables including customer demographics, their general likes and dislikes, your business values, current pop culture and media trends, your overall décor and design, and more. Our Music Designers review hundreds of new releases every day to continue honing the right music experience for our clients.

  • PRESS KIT “Downright Stunning.” GLOBE & MAIL
THE DARCYS PRESS KIT “Downright stunning.” GLOBE & MAIL “The Darcys haven’t missed a step, expertly arranging their lush, effects-laden soft-rock compositions.” NOW “An ear-catching collection of sweeping, multilayered songs.” NATIONAL POST “Lushly layered, lightly proggy arrangements.” CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND “With a mix of lightly distorted guitars, melodic, instantly catchy riffs, drum beats that propel songs forward to rewarding climaxes, and light keyboard touches that give tracks depth and substance, The Darcys are showing that they are here for the long haul.” BAEBLE “A serious contender to next year’s Polaris Prize, The Darcys is a superb achievement, both meditated and meditative.” HOUR “The Darcys is a monstrously tuneful prog-rock epic that improbably finds common ground between Radiohead and Steely Dan.” TORONTO STAR “An inspiring blend of polished pop and avant garde experimentation.” POP MATTERS “The odd details throughout The Darcys — a gospel choral breakdown, a barely detectable violin solo... lyrics that wink at self-awareness — surface like cream.” ONION A.V. CLUB THEDARCYS.CA MUSIC: CONCERT REVIEW The Darcys: A New and Momentous Beginning BRAD WHEELER At The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, on Friday There is the calm, there is the storm, and then there are the Darcys, young art-rock wonders who do both simultaneously. Their results are meaningful, momentous and absolutely enviable. In the beery dark showroom at the Horseshoe Tavern, in front of a bustling co-ed crowd, the Toronto quartet set impassioned melodic emotion against funnelling washes of electric feedback and gauzy textures. Crescendos figured; the drummer and bassist clearly had eaten their Wheaties or spinach.
