Street skateboarding courses are designed to replicate real-world urban terrain featuring stair sets, rails, gaps, benches, ledges, and planters on riding surfaces of variable elevations alongside traditional skatepark elements such as banks and quarterpipes. Elevation changes between riding surfaces usually do not exceed eight feet (2.44 meters). Park terrain courses are based around transitional concrete bowls from five to 10 feet (1.52 to 3.01 meters) in depth and are distinguished by design features such as spines, angled hips, extensions, escalators, set-back walls, elevation changes, gaps, transfers and variable grinding surfaces. Differences between the Skateboarding World Championships and the Olympic Games The Olympic Games skateboarding competition format is identical to the one used at the World Championships in both street and park disciplines. The skater quotas are larger at the World Championships. Changes since the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Skateboarding makes its Olympic Games debut at Tokyo 2020. Sport Rules and Procedures Street The street competition comprises two rounds: prelims and final. In the prelims, the 20 female or male skaters will first compete in four heats of five skaters. The first eight skaters from the combined ranking of the heats will progress to the final. In each round, the skaters will perform two 45 second runs and five tricks. Judging The two runs and each of their five tricks are judged by five judges who will use a 0-10.00 points scale. The highest and lowest judges' scores for each run or trick are dropped, and the remaining three scores are averaged to give a score for each run and each trick (seven scores). The best four scores from runs or tricks will be added to give the total round score. The highest and lowest scores for each run are dropped, and the remaining three scores are averaged to two decimal places. Timekeeping For all run and trick attempts, skaters are given five seconds to start after the starter's signal. If skaters purposefully do not begin their run or trick attempt within five seconds of the starter’s signal, they will lose their opportunity to be scored on that attempt at the discretion of the head judge. The runs are 45 seconds. The clock is triggered by a technical official when the skater places both feet on their board at the beginning of the run. A horn signal will be triggered when the clock reaches "0". The clock will not be stopped under any conditions. Purpose The WFTDI Skatepark Risk Management Guidelines have been developed in order to increase awareness and help reduce the risks to individuals and organizations from damages and unexpected injuries for those who participate in the sport park skating on quad roller skates. A skatepark is defined as a purpose-built, recreational area having structures and surfaces made for roller-skating. A skatepark may contain half-pipes, spine transfers, handrails, funboxes, vert ramps, pyramids, banked ramps, full pipes, pools, bowls, snake runs and stairsets. These guidelines include minimum standards and recommendations for WFTDI insured members and may be considered best practices for all skatepark roller skaters. The following guidelines apply to all activities, expositions and tournaments when WFTDI Skatepark Insurance is in effect. Compliance with these guidelines is a condition of coverage of the WFTDI Skatepark Insurance General Liability and Personal Accident policies. Noncompliance with the WFTDI Skatepark Risk Management Guidelines is grounds for denial of insurance coverage.

etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest Stephen Kelly, Editor Photo by Guy Nelson Lake Forest, Calif., pop. 78,000, packs 6,274 people per square mile into this most densely populated city in south Orange County. Incorporated in Dec. 1991, the city has expanded to encompass the communities of Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills. The “Lake” in the city name is really two artificial lakes around which are built custom homes and condos. The forest part is what is left over of 400 acres of eucalyptus trees planted in the 1900s by a landowner for a lumber operation. Historic photo—Sat. Dec. 13, 2003, grand opening of the free public etnies Skatepark, Lake Forest, Calif., south Orange County. The city spearheaded the park. SITE Design Group of Solana Beach, Calif. designed the skate surfaces, California Skateparks of Ontario, Calif. constructed it and the Rabben/Herman Design Office of Newport Beach provided the landscape architecture. The major financial sponsor of the skate park, etnies, manufactures skateboard shoes and clothing. Photo courtesy of Rabben/Herman Design Office The Birth of a Skate Park Based on citywide recreation surveys by Lake Forest, residents indicated a skate park was the top recreation priority. Just about everywhere you go in Southern California you’ll see kids on skateboards, often on the sidewalks, or at office parks or just about any hard surface. These spaces often prohibit skateboarding, and so it’s important they have a place to go, to practice their skills, have fun and just hang out. To design and construct the skate park, the city created a public-private partnership with etnies, a manufacturer of skateboard shoes and clothing that had recently relocated to Lake Forest.

  • Alles Über Das Skaten Mit Der Hand

  • 1 How Skateboarding Made It to the Olympics
How skateboarding made it to the Olympics: an institutional perspective Dr Mikhail Batuev, Professor Leigh Robinson, Northumbria University University of Stirling [email protected] [email protected] Health and Life Sciences, Northumberland Building, Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8ST, UK. Pathfoot Building, Stirling, FK9 4LA, UK +44 (0) 191 227 3840 +44 (0) 1786466281 Abstract Utilizing new institutionalism and resource-dependency theory this paper examines the organisational context within which skateboarding has developed and is continuing to develop. As a radical lifestyle activity, many within the sport of skateboarding have sought to distance themselves from the institutionalized competitive structure exemplified by the modern Olympic Games, despite a steady growth in competitive skateboarding within increasingly formal structures. The aim of this paper is to explore how the sport has operationally evolved and how, as a major youth sport, Olympic inclusion has impacted on its organisational arrangements. Data were collected through a series of semi-structured interviews and supplemented by selected secondary sources including social media analysis, sport regulations and policy statements. The conclusions of the research are: 1) unlike many other sports, skateboarding has always functioned as a network which includes event organizers, media companies, and equipment producers, with governing bodies playing a more peripheral role; 2) there was a strong lobby from elite skateboarders in support of inclusion in the Olympics although only on ‘skateboarders terms’; 3) interest from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which eventually led to the inclusion of skateboarding in the 2020 Olympic Games, has affected the organisational evolution of skateboarding over the last decade and has stressed issues of organisational legitimacy in this sport.
