Evolution of Belarusian-Polish Relations at the Present Stage: Balance of Interests
Журнал Белорусского государственного университета. Международные отношения Journal of the Belarusian State University. International Relations UDC 327(476:438) EVOLUTION OF BELARUSIAN-POLISH RELATIONS AT THE PRESENT STAGE: BALANCE OF INTERESTS V. G. SHADURSKI а aBelarusian State University, Nezavisimosti avenue, 4, Minsk, 220030, Republic of Belarus The present article is dedicated to the analysis of the Belarusian-Polish relations’ development during the post-USSR period. The conclusion is made that despite the geographical neighborhood of both countries, their cultural and historical proximity, cooperation between Minsk and Warsaw didn’t comply with the existing capacity. Political contradictions became the reason for that, which resulted in fluctuations in bilateral cooperation, local conflicts on the inter-state level. The author makes an attempt to identify the main reasons for a low level of efficiency in bilateral relations and to give an assessment of foreign factors impact on Minsk and Warsaw policies. Key words: Belarusian-Polish relations; Belarusian foreign policy; Belarusian and Polish diplomacy; historical policy. -

The Trump-Russia Collusion Case
The Trump-Russia Collusion Case Updated to August 2020 Source: http://www.scaruffi.com/politics/trumptraitor.html For those who have been following this page for a while: my main target is not Trump, my target is Putin. Putin, not Trump, is the most dangerous person in the world. Trump is just a lackey, a small-time crook and bit-time liar whom Putin is using to attack the USA. The problem is not that there is no evidence of Trump-Putin collusion, the problem is that there is too much of it. I have added some background about the motive of Russia's interference in US politics. In my opinion, it was not only a general attempt at undermining US institutions (that came later) but originally it was a determined effort to make sure that Hillary Clinton did not become president. Putin feared her more than anyone else. For those who have NOT followed this page from the beginning: this website was one of the first to talk about the Trump-Russia collusion at a time when few dared mention the Steele dossier. Just to be very clear: this is not about whether Russia's interference changed the results of the election (i personally think that the FBI investigation into Clinton's email server had a much bigger impact). It is about Putin's strategy to attack the USA, and, secondly, it is about the extent of Trump's collaboration with Putin. And, just to be fair, Putin's Russia is not the only country that ever interfered in US politics. -

Through the Reign of Catherine the Great
Chapter Thirty-two Religion in Eastern Europe and the Middle East from 1648 through the Reign of Catherine the Great What in Polish and Lithuanian history is called “the Deluge” began in 1648, with the revolt of Ukraine from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Ukraine has been important in the history of religion, and especially of Judaism. The Hasidic movement began in Ukraine in the eighteenth century. A century earlier, Ukraine had been the scene of an especially dark chapter in Jewish history. In what is conventionally called “the Khmelnytsky Uprising” (1648-1654) Orthodox Christians killed many thousands of Judaeans, and those who survived were forced temporarily to flee for safety to other lands. In order to see the Khmelnytsky Uprising and the rise of Hasidism in perspective, a summary glance at earlier Ukrainian history is necessary. Early history of Ukraine: Judaism and Orthodox Christianity in Kievan Rus We have seen in Chapter 24 that from the eighth century to the 960s the steppe country above the Black Sea, the Caucasus range and the Caspian had been ruled by the khan or khagan of the Khazars. Prior to the arrival of the Khazars the steppe had been controlled consecutively by coalitions of mounted warriors named Sarmatians, Goths, Huns and Avars. Under these transient overlords the valleys of the great rivers - Bug, Dniester, Dnieper, Don, Volga - were plowed and planted by a subject population known to the historian Jordanes (ca. 550) as Antes and Sclaveni. From the latter designation comes the name, “Slavs,” and it can be assumed that the steppe villagers spoke a variety of Slavic dialects. -

Metropolitan Philaret of New York
Metropolitan Philaret of New York That blessed day will come when the Lord will have mercy on the Russian land and Russian people, and piety will be enthroned there, as once it had been in Holy Russia. But while we live this lot in exile, while we belong to this Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, I repeat again, let us thank the Lord for this and try to be true to Her in every way. Faithfulness to the Truth in Sermons and Teachings of His Eminence Metropolitan Philaret (Vol. 1). Introduction On Sunday 21 November 2010, all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) commemorated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Philaret (Voznesensky), her third First Hierarch. Metropolitan of ROCOR, he was also a priest of the much-suffering Patriarchal Church for sixteen years between 1945 and 1961, and so is a bond of unity between the two parts of the Russian Orthodox Church. Moreover, he also represents hope for the future of Orthodoxy in China, where he lived for over forty years. A priest for thirty-one years and a bishop for twenty-two years, he is venerated by many as a holy man. Indeed, there are those who believe that one day, just like St John of Shanghai, he will be canonised by the whole Russian Orthodox Church, both in New York and in Moscow. We know that within ROCOR a service has already been composed to him and there are those who are now collecting testimonies about him. Let us look at his life and achievements. -
Mapping International Responses to the Political Crisis in Belarus 01 What Is Happening in Belarus? 3
Mapping International Responses to the Political Crisis in Belarus 01 What is happening in Belarus? 3 02 What is the project about? 6 03 What are sanctions? 8 04 What are the types of sanctions? 10 05 What sanctions against Belarus are currently in place? 15 06 What other international respon- ses are in place, besides sanctions? 22 07 What has been the response of the Belarusian de facto leadership? 26 08 What has been the reaction of civil society and alter- native democratic forces? 28 In August 2020 protests erupted in Belarus, following an allegedly rigged presidential election. Police brutality and political persecu- tion continue to date. International actors adopt various responses to the political and human rights crisis, including sanctions. As representatives of civil society, we are deeply concerned with the current political crisis unfolding in Belarus. By mapping inter- national responses to the crisis, we explore the toolbox used by various actors to ensure accountability and inspire change. The project’s goal is to monitor, document, and analyse international responses, seeking to clarify their complex nature to the general public, as well as to inform advocacy efforts. What is happening in Belarus? Belarus has been under the rule of Alexander Lukashenko1 since 1994. Originally authorised to serve for two presidential terms, Lukashenko initiated two referen- da on amending the constitution in 1996 and 2004. The contested outcomes of the referenda allowed him to run for the post indefinitely and widened the extent of presidential powers, effectively turning Belarus into a presidential republic.2 Lukashenko’s presidency has been marked by authoritarianism and oppression.
