In Indonesia, no study was conducted owing to the ban on trawl Proceedings of the Regional Workshop on Trawl Fisheries Socio-economics fisheries beginning January 2015. However, a paper based on key 26-27 October 2015 informant interviews was prepared. The socio-economic studies were Da Nang, Viet Nam undertaken to understand the contribution of trawl fisheries to food and security and livelihoods and determine the potential impacts of Socio-economic Write-shop management measures on stakeholder groups. Among the 25-26 April 2016 socio-economic information collected were the following: Cha Am, Thailand demographic structure of owners and crew; fishing practices – boat, gear, season, duration; catch composition, value chain and markets; contribution to livelihoods, food security and nutrition; role of women; heast Asia and Papua New Guinea costs and income from trawling; catch/income sharing arrangements; linkages with other sectors; and perceptions – resources, participation, compliance and the future.

    Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Fisheries and for a world without hunger Aquaculture Department Fishing Gear Types Lift nets Lift nets ISSCFG code: 05 Characteristics Overview Lift nets are horizontal netting panels or bag shaped like a parallelepiped, pyramid or cone with the opening facing upwards which are submerged at a certain depth, left for a while, the time necessary for light or bait to attract fish over the opening, then lifted out of the water. Three main type of lift nets can be distinguished: portable hand lift nets (used, in general, with light attraction), shore operated stationary lift nets. Handling Equipment Lift nets are hauled out by hand or mechanically through bomm(s) and blocks. The handling (setting and hauling) of large lift nets, normally requires, in addition, one or several winches. Vessel Overview Boat-operated lift nets are often used, in small-scale fisheries, from small catamans (e.g. in inland fisheries, in Africa) or two canoes operating together; other models of lift nets, larger (i.e. bag nets, "basnig", in Asia) are handled, from large vessels, known as Lift netters. In some other cases no boats are required (for shore stationary installations). Fish Operation The operations, from the shore, from a canoe or a bigger boat, include - the setting of the net at a certain depth, opening facing upwards; - the attraction of the fish over the above mentioned opening, by light or bait; then, - the lifting/hauling of the net out of the water, by hand or mechanically. Target Species Small pelagic species, fish and squid.

The compendium is a compilation of statistical information collected from data produced by various government agencies and from data available in different statistical publications. The compilation of statistical data in this compendium is based on the Philippine Framework of Environment Statistics (PFDES) which in turn is based on the United Nations Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics. It covers data for the period 1992 to 2002, whenever possible. Latest figures presented vary depending on the availability of data. The PFDES provides a systematic approach to the development of environment statistics and is an instrument for compiling and integrating data coming from various data collecting institutions to make them more useful in the formulation and evaluation of socio-economic and environmental programs and policies. As in the previous editions, the focus of this compendium is on the five main items of environmental issues, namely: flora/fauna, atmosphere, water, land, mineral and energy and human settlements. The NSCB will strive to further improve the scope and coverage of the compendium in the future. It is hoped that this compendium will serve as a useful and convenient reference on the Philippine environment. With this publication the NSCB fulfills in part its function of providing information to planners, decision makers, researchers and other users towards sustainable development.
