2 1. Background and purpose Background and purpose of the report

▪ This report describes the development of radio broadcasting at national (PPM) and regional (CATI) levels, before and after the shut-down of the nationwide FM network. Kantar Media has prepared the report on behalf of Digital radio Norway, NRK, P4 Group and Bauer Media. ▪ Kantar is the provider of the official radio numbers in Norway: ▪ The PPM measurement is the official radio numbers at the national level. The measurements are conducted electronically using a national representative panel, the Media Panel, consisting of 1000 people using PPM equipment. These numbers are reported weekly: http://www.tns- gallup.no/medier/radio/nasjonale-lyttertall-ppm/ ▪ Kantar Media measures radio listening at regional and local level with 45,000 annual telephone interviews (CATI) in Consumer & Media (F & M). The CATI measurements therefore represent the official listener numbers for Norwegian local radios, compared with national channels locally. http://www.tns- gallup.no/medier/radio/ . ▪ On behalf of Digitalradio Norway, Kantar Media has conducted the Digital Radio Survey (DRS) since 2012. DRS measures the access and use of radio equipment (https://radio.no/om-oss/digital-radiolytting ).

▪ In 2017, the Norwegian radio will be digitized (https://radio.no/digitalisering/hva-betyr-omleggingen-for-deg/, https://www.medietilsynet.no/ https://radio.no/).
