Even in the Case of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, the figures of each caste were not separately extracted; only the group totals wore ascertained. The Backward Classes Commission require the figures of population of each caste. In order to Dssist them an estimate of population of each caste in 1951 has been made on the basis of the figures of the previous censuses. 2. The figures have been presented in four tables:- (i) Scheduled Castes, Hindus only (1i) Scheduled. Tribes (iii) Backward Classes Hindus and Muslims separately (Iv) Other Castes, Hindus and Muslims se.parately. Some 'minor adjustments have been matle in the estimated figures of Scheduled Tri bes in order to make the total tally with the 1951 - Census total of this group. 3. ho castew1se figures are available for lF41 Census. The use of Hindi in his writings and preaching made his ideas accessible to the common people of northern India. -

M.P. Abstract: The present study is an attempt to explore the Srinagar Division and Kargil and Leh in Ladakh Region. Government of Gujarat has set up a nodal agency Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority to manage disasters in the State. Kheda District is vulnerable to natural disasters like earthquake, flood, cyclone and man- made disasters like road & rail accidents, fire, epidemics, riots. Many a time it is not possible to prevent disasters but awareness & sensitization of people regarding preparedness and mitigation of various disasters gives positive results. Collectorate-Kheda have tried to include the district related information, risks and preparedness against risks, responses at the time of disasters as well as disaster management and strategy during the disaster etc. for Kheda District. This is updated periodically and also we are improving it through our draw, errors and learn new lessons. District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP) is in two parts. Part-1 includes District profile of various disasters, action plans including IRS (Incident Response System). And Part-2 includes detalied version of DDMP as per the guidelines provided by GSDMA. 198 Dr.ISSN Dharam 0972-1169 Singh Oct., 2003–Jan. 2003, Vol. 3/II-III KABIR: TOWARDS A CULTURE OF RELIGIOUS PLURALISM Dr. Dharam Singh Though globalization of religion and pluralistic culture are more recent terms, the human desire for an inter-faith culture of co- existence and the phenomenon of inter-faith encounters and dialogues are not entirely new. In the medieval Indian scenario we come across many such encounters taking place between holy men of different and sometimes mutually opposite religious traditions. Man being a social creature by nature cannot remain aloof from or indifferent to what others around him believe in, think and do. In fact, to bring about mutual understanding among people of diverse faiths, it becomes necessary that we learn to develop appreciation and sympathy for the faith of the others. The medieval Indian socio-religious scene was dominated by Hinduism and Islam. Hinduism has been one of the oldest religions of Indian origin and its adherents in India then, as even today, constituted the largest majority. On the other hand, Islam being of Semitic origin was alien to India until the first half of the 7th century when the “first contacts between India and the Muslim world were established in the South because of the age- old trade between Arabia and India.”1 However, soon these traders tuned invaders when Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni led a long chain of invasions on India and molestation of Indian populace. To begin with, they came as invaders, plundered the country-side and went back, but soon they settled as rulers. -

Introduction The Invention of an Ethnic Nationalism he Hindu nationalist movement started to monopolize the front pages of Indian newspapers in the 1990s when the political T party that represented it in the political arena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP—which translates roughly as Indian People’s Party), rose to power. From 2 seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, the BJP increased its tally to 88 in 1989, 120 in 1991, 161 in 1996—at which time it became the largest party in that assembly—and to 178 in 1998. At that point it was in a position to form a coalition government, an achievement it repeated after the 1999 mid-term elections. For the first time in Indian history, Hindu nationalism had managed to take over power. The BJP and its allies remained in office for five full years, until 2004. The general public discovered Hindu nationalism in operation over these years. But it had of course already been active in Indian politics and society for decades; in fact, this ism is one of the oldest ideological streams in India. It took concrete shape in the 1920s and even harks back to more nascent shapes in the nineteenth century. As a movement, too, Hindu nationalism is heir to a long tradition. Its main incarnation today, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS—or the National Volunteer Corps), was founded in 1925, soon after the first Indian communist party, and before the first Indian socialist party. -

Considerable attention has been given to the role of Christianity in Kenya and elsewhere iu East Africa, Jamia (Sunni) Mosque, and rightly so. But it Nairobl is sometimes overlooked that another great mouo- theistic religiou is at work as well. Islam arose later iu history than Christianity, but it was firmly planted lu Kenya centuries before the first Christian missionaries stepped ashore at Mombasa. -

This thesis argues that the primary mover of the migration were the edicts, or Farmans, of the Ismaili spiritual leader. They were instrumental in motivating Ismailis to go to East Africa.
