Battle of the Ages , Part 2

Icebreaker: Give some examples from history when inspired oppressive leaders to attempt to wipe out the Jewish people.

The cosmic battle that has gone on since the fall of is a war that must be won to win all wars. It is the spiritual battle between and Satan, good and evil, right and wrong, the righteous and the wicked. And its finale is found in the . Revelation 12 gives us the background and recap to this conflict. And it introduces us to its major players, especially as they relate to the last 3 ½ years of the Tribulation. Here we find a summation of this great cosmic battle from its inception, of Satan’s hatred for Israel, and his attempt to annihilate the Jews and Tribulation saints.

2. Act 1: Where and when did this Conflict of the Ages begin? 4a

Act 2: Satan’s fall resulted in War On Earth, which is still going on today. For reasons known only to God, Satan and his fallen would become man’s tempters to sin. Since Satan could not usurp the of God in he would usurp the title deed to the earth given to Adam. And having caused man’s fall, he would seek to get the human race to worship him rather than the Creator.

3. What was Satan’s strategy prior to the birth of Christ. Verse 4b

Between verses 5 and 6 there is a time gap of more than 2000 years.

Act 3: War In Heaven again and the Tribulation period When the Church is taken to Heaven the , Satan’s agent on earth, will come to power. He will make a 7 year peace treaty promising to protect Israel, which marks the beginning of the Tribulation. And 3 ½ years later he will desecrate their temple in an act called the abomination of desolation.

Although Satan and his demons were kicked out of Heaven at the time of their rebellion before the fall of man, they still have access to the throne of God, where Satan is called the Accuser of the Brethren. See Job 1:6-7; 2 Chronicles 18:18-22; 1 John 2:1-3 2 | P a g e

6. What new actor in this drama are we introduced to in verses 7-9, where we read of another War in Heaven when Satan and his demons are cast permanently down to the earth and will no longer have access to the throne of God? Daniel 12:1

Verse 9 marks the middle verse of Revelation. It also marks the middle of the Tribulation. Satan and his angels are kicked out of Heaven and confined to the earth, Antichrist is possessed by the , the martyrdom and of God’s , the abomination of desolation, and the fleeing of Israel into the wilderness, all transpire in rapid succession at the mid-point of the Tribulation.
