Professor of Engineering TRIP INFORMATION: Travel Dates: May 14-May 24, 2020 Trip organized by: MAVtravel LLC Program Fee: $3350* (includes international flights, accommodation, transportation while abroad, admission to sites/visits on the itinerary, several meals, locals guides and tour director service) PLEASE NOTE: Affordable travel insurance is available at an additional cost – Please contact MAVtravel LLC for more information and rates Course requirements: TBD – Dr. Ricco will keep you posted *Fees are based on 26 student participants, double occupancy, and are subject to change due to currency fluctuations and/or fee changes made by our partner suppliers prior to contracts being confirmed. As such, MAVtravel LLC, reserves the right to adjust the program itinerary to stay within budget. Additional program fees apply for single occupancy or non-student travelers. Please contact MAVtravel LLC for more information: [email protected] FEE SCHEDULE: Initial Deposit of $200 due 11/1/19 – nonrefundable Second Deposit of $500 due 12/31/19 – refundable if a replacement is secured (cancellation/change fee penalties apply) (Late fee of $25 will be applied to balance if the payment is not received by 11:59pm on 12/31/19) Final Deposit due 2/25/20 – refundable if a replacement is secured (cancellation/change fee penalties apply) (Late fee of $50 will be applied to balance if the payment is not received by 11:59pm on 2/25/20) PAYMENT OPTIONS: Check/Cashier’s Check/Money Order (payable to MAVtravel LLC) – Please mail your check directly to MAVtravel LLC – 3633 Newhouse Place, Greenwood IN 46143. Make sure to allow enough time for delivery by due dates. Debit/Credit Card via PayPal – www.mavtravel.com/payments PLEASE NOTE: Debit/credit card payments on the second and final deposits incur a convenience fee of 3.5% of the payment amount. If the amount is not added to the payment when submitted, it will be applied to the traveler’s final tour/program balance. (Rather than just add 3.5 % to all balances due, MAVtravel LLC essentially offers a discount to those who pay by check.) TRAVELER REGISTRATION, AGREEMENT & DEPOSIT: Before your deposit is paid, you are REQUIRED to go to the MAVtravel LLC website to complete the following: FIRST: Read the Traveler Agreement (you can find it on the site’s menu) SECOND: Complete the Registration Form for the UIndy-Scandinavia trip (again, you can find it on the menu) THIRD: You will be notified when you may pay your deposit. DO NOT pay it until you are advised to do so. Your deposit is required to confirm your spot. Space is limted, and available on a first come, first served basis. We will likely take the train into the city fom the airport May 15 Denmark 2 nights in Copenhagen After settling in, have a guided city Lunch on own...might be at the airport center tour by a local in the late afternoon (1 hour or so) B, D1 DINNER as a group (near or at the 2 course meal hotel) around 7PM. Day 3 Copenhagen Late morning: Tour Rosenborg Castle Rosenborg Castle is a renaissance castle located in May 16 and King's Garden as a group. Copenhagen, Denmark. The castle was originally built as a (Includes admission.) country summerhouse in 1606 and is an example of Christian IV's many architectural projects. The King's Garden is the oldest park in the city and has existed for more than 400 years. Late afternoon: Walk to and spend the Tivoli Gardens, founded in 1843, is a national treasure and an late afternoon and evening at Tivoli international attraction. Fairy tale writer Hans Christian Gardens. Andersen visited many times, as did Walt Disney who found the inspiration for his own Disney World at this urban phenomenon. It is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world. B LUNCH AND DINNER ON OWN Day 4 Helsingør, Depart via train with our luggage There is luggage storage at 7 Eleven for a fee (covered), and May 17 Denmark/Gothenburg, around 9:30AM then some storage space at the the Castle. Sweden 2 nights in Gothenburg Morning: Visit Kronborg Castle from The inspiration for Hamlet! 11-12:30PM Grab quick lunch afterwards on own until 1pm - there are a few options around the castle. (Admission included to castle) FERRY & TRAIN Afternoon: Depart for Gotherburg We’ll take the FERRY from Helsingør to Helsingborg - takes around 1:00, arrving around 4:30PM about 20 min. Next, we’ll take the train to Gotheburg. We can walk there since it is a very short distance to the station. It will take about 2 hours to get to Gotheburg. B, D2 DINNER as a group (near or at the 2 course meal hotel) around 7:30PM. Day 5 Gothenburg, Sweden Morning: Guided city tour by a local at Sweden’s second largest city is known as the most charming May 18 10AM (1 hr.) city in Europe. The night life is amazing, and the surrounding area is filled with beautiful nature, and the inner city is filled with shopping, cafés, and friendly locals. Afternoon: We'll walk to the Haga One of the most famous pastries in town – Hagabullen – a neighborhood to spend time plate-sized cinnamon bun, is found at Café Husaren at Haga checking out the shops and area. Lots Nygata. There are plenty of choices for lunch and dinner - of great places to grab a bite. ( pavement cafés and outdoor terraces line the street in summer. B LUNCH AND DINNER ON OWN Day 6 Oslo, Norway Depart for Oslo via coach or Train The coastal route between Gothenborg and Oslo is quite scenic, May 19 around 9AM - takes a good 4.5 hours. with beautiful villages nestled along the rocky coast. 2 nights in Oslo Fjallbacka – pssible clunch stop Fjallbacka is a picturesque village where we may break up our coach ride and stop to grab a bite for lunch. OR perhaps have a pre-packed lunch. TRAIN or COACH We'll drop our luggage off at our Oslo, the capital of Norway, sits on the country’s southern coast hotel, then have a guided city center at the head of the Oslofjord. It’s known for its green spaces and tour by a local in the afternoon (1 museums. Day 7 Oslo Visit the Viking Ship Museum - The Viking Ship Museum is located on the Bygdøy peninsula in May 20 9:30AM-11:30. (Admission included.) Oslo, Norway. It is part of the Museum of Cultural History at the University of Oslo, and houses three Viking era burial ships. B Afternoon is free - LUNCH AND Optional: Visit the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History with DINNER ON OWN extensive collections of artifacts from all social groups and all regions of the country. It also incorporates a large open-air museum with more than 150 buildings, relocated from towns and rural districts. Day 8 Bergen, Norway In the morning we will have an early Starting from Oslo, we'll set out on a westbound train journey May 21 start as we travel the scenic route to through scenic mountain terrain on the Bergen Railway. Upon Bergen arrival in Myrdal, we disembark and change trains to the legendary Flåm Railway. The Flåm Railway offers spectacular panoramic views of the Norwegian fjord landscape. 1 night in Bergen Packed lunches Our journey continues from Flåm with a fjord cruise on the magnificent Aurlandsfjord and the dramatic and narrow Nærøyfjord. The Aurlandsfjord is a picturesque fjord that offers stunning views, while the Nærøyfjord is a dramatic fjord surrounded by high mountains. Nærøyfjorden is one of the most narrow fjords in Europe and is included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. TRAIN, COACH, BOAT After our fjord cruise we arrive in the small village of Gudvangen, nestled in the innermost part of Nærøyfjorden. From here the journey continues with a bus trip through Nærøydalen, with its charming villages and scenic nature landscape. From May-September the bus travels down the steep hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva. The bus will arrive in Voss, where we continue the tour by train on the Bergen Railway to Bergen.
