Product Photography for an Online Store and a Printed Catalog
Aleksandra Kretova Product Photography for an Online Store and a Printed Catalog Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Bachelor of Engineering Media Engineering Bachelor’s Thesis 11 November 2013 Abstract Author(s) Aleksandra Kretova Title Product Photography for an Online Store and a Printed Catalog Number of Pages 46 pages Date 11 November 2013 Degree Bachelor of Engineering Degree Programme Media Engineering Specialisation option Printing Technology / Audiovisual Technology Instructor(s) Toni Spännäri, Principal Lecturer The main purpose of this project was to produce a set of product photographs for a customer and prepare them for use in an online shop as well as in a printed catalog. The goal for this Bachelor Thesis was to collect theoretical information on all of the stages of product photography production workflow, plan a similar workflow for the project and implement it. Another goal was to find out the differences between photography production processes for two different outputs: a printed catalog and an online store. A portable product photography studio setup was used for the production of the photographs. The photographs were then edited and saved into two separate sets: one set for print and another set for web use. Test prints were done for the photographs saved for the printing purposes. Color management techniques were carried out on every stage of the production. In the end the results of the project were collected and analyzed. The differences in the production workflow for two different outputs were identified. The setup and processes used to implement the project have shown to produce acceptable results. Carefully color managed workflow has shown to improve the quality of production process while the portable lighting setup used was found to have some limitations.
