Common Name Sweetpotato leaf miner, morning glory leafminer Scientific Name Bedellia somnulentella; previously known as Bedellia ipomoeae. Distribution Worldwide. Asia, Africa, North America, Europe, Oceania. It is present in Australia, Fiji1, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. Hosts Sweet potato, kangkong (Ipomoea aquatica), and bindweeds (Calstegia and Convolvulus species). Symptoms & Life Cycle The damage is done by the larvae. Mines are at first serpentine (snake-like), and filled with frass; they become yellow-brown and later grow in width, forming blotches (Photo 1). At this stage, the larvae protrude from the blotch to defaecate. Later still, holes are produced in the leaves as the blotches are destroyed. The eggs are laid on the leaves, usually on the underside near the midrib, veins or base of the leaf blade. The larvae are yellowish with pink spots along the back, developing into red rounded projections on all segments. When mature, the larvae are 5.5 mm long. They exit the mines and make a network of silk threads on the underside of the leaf. When not feeding, they move around inside the threads, above the leaf surface. Frass often catches in the web of threads. The larvae pupate there. Adults are greyish brown, 3.5-4 mm long, with a tuft of light yellow to brown hairs on the head, and wingspan of 8-10 mm (Photos 2&3). -

Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

VAN EYNDHOVEN Zoologisch Museum, Amsterdam In Beaufortia (1964) I discussed a number of observations relating the trans¬ port of the mite Cheletomorpha lepidopterorum (Shaw, 1794) by the interme¬ diacy of Lepidoptera. Prior to my previous paper, only a few cases of this transport were recorded. Indeed it seemed quite incidental, and so (1964 : 57) I joined Vitzthum (1941 : 574) in considering the phenomenon as “phoresy” and not as “symphorism”. The interpretation of symphorism, as derived from Deegener’s ideas by Vitzthum (194-1 : 573) reads as follows: “Symphorium. Eine Tierart siedelt sich, ohne Pa¬ rasit zu werden, auf der Körperoberfläche einer anderen Tierart an, ohne dass ein mutualistisches (reziprokes) Verhältnis zwischen Träger und Getragenem zustande kommt.” The fact that — including my addendum (1964 : 59) — I could record six cases in all (from The Netherlands and from England) of transport by the moth Charanyca [now Caradrina'] clavipalpis (Scop.), and that in the present paper I can mention four more cases found in England, has lead me to the conclusion that it is correct to consider these transports as s/mphorism. -

Резюме: В настоящей работе приводятся сведения о 84 видах чешуекрылых ноктуологического комплекса, собранных нашей экспедицией в Таджикистане в 2011 году (Erebidae: 7 видов; Nolidae: 1 вид; Euteliidae: 1 вид; Noctuidae: 75 видов). 28 видов впервые приводятся для этой территории. In 2011 (13th-26th July) my friends, and myself, we participated in an entomological expedition to the Tajik Republic (about this expedition see Atalanta 43: 169-172). Here we report about the Noctuoidea species collected during this trip. The number of articles on the Noctuoidea fauna of Tajikistan is very low: GRUM-GRSHIMAÏLO (1890), FORSTER & ROSEN (1940), SHCHETKIN (1963, 1965, etc.), HACKER & PECks (1990), LEHMANN et al. (1998). Much more papers of the studied region do not exist, so the overall view (including zoogeography) of the Heterocera fauna is still very incomplete. Additional data can be extracted from numerous taxonomic papers (for example, in Esperiana, Atalanta, Nota lepidopterologica, etc.). -

Zwei neue Psychiden arten, Bankesia cephalonica spec. nov. und Reisseronia ionica spec. nov. sowie zwei neue Unterarten Reisseronia ionica odysseus subspec. nov. und Reisseronia ionica lefkadensis subspec. nov. werden beschrieben und mit verwandten Arten verglichen. Das erste Taxon wurde im Nationalpark „Enos“ auf Kefalonia auf 1600 m NN entdeckt, R. ionica spec. nov. kommt auf Kefalonia, odysseus subspec. nov. auf Ithaka und lefkadensis subspec. nov auf Lefkada vor. Die Taxa von Reisseronia sind auf den Inseln weit verbreitet und stellenweise häufig. Während der Jahre 1993, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2012 und 2015 wurde ihre Biologie und Ökologie studiert. Weiterhin wird der Kenntnisstand zur Lepidopterenfauna der Ionischen Inseln recherchiert und umfassend diskutiert. Im Ergebnis werden 638 Lepidopterenarten bekanntgegeben. Darunter befindet sich eine Art, deren Erstnachweis für Europa mitgeteilt wird und zwei Arten als neu für Griechenland genannt. Für weitere 105 Arten wird deren Erstnach weis für die Ionischen Inseln bekannt gemacht. Ausserdem werden die Beifänge zur Köcherfliegenfauna veröffentlicht. Müller Abstract A complete list of the presently known Xyleninae species of Jordan is presented, and the biogeography, phenology and distribution of the same are discussed. Within a German - Israeli project to monitor the Lepidoptera Fauna of the Levant we record from 1986 to 2010 a total of 84 species, 33 of which (39 %) are new records for the country. In Jordan the Xyleninae are represented by eight tribes, most species belonging to the Xylenini (32) and Caradrini (25).The majority of the species are of an Eremic (27), Mediterranean (24) and Irano-Turanian (16) distribution pattern.
