Testimony concerned: (1) problems working parents have had in providing care for their youn children;(2) day care initiatives and needs in California; (3) ways in which San Mateo County used its housing and community development funds;(4) social programs developed in San Mateo County which addressed major human service problems and provided child care for latchkey children; (5) private and public sector initiatives in providing day care services and recommendations for future efforts; (6) the San Mateo Central Labor Council child care policies; (7) the impact of inadequately funded day care aid child development programs on the public schools; (8) the year-1,ng quest for a center site by Apple Computer, Inc.; (9) ways of fostering federal and state cooperation in meeting child care and developmental needs of California's preschoolers; (10) problems and needs of family day care providers; (11) the implementation of a center in a federal workplace; (12) characteristics of California's child care resource and referral network; (13) problems facing day care providers and the implications for program quality; (14) legal issues child care providers face; (15) California's regulatory program for child care services; (16) employment trends and their relation to workers' child care needs; (17) child care issues affecting blacks; and (18) child care initiatives of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Azzoli Marist College 845.575.5050 This Marist Poll Reports: NY U.S. Senate Race: Schumer Leads Townsend by 28 Percentage Points Among Likely Voters U.S. Senate candidates Chuck Schumer and Jay Townsend will faceoff in a debate this Sunday night on the Marist College Campus. And, according to this Marist Poll of New York State voters, Schumer is the odds-on favorite to win re-election. He receives the support of 63% of the state’s likely voters including early voters and those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate while Townsend has 35%. One percent plans to vote for someone else, and 1% is undecided. Schumer has widened his lead. When Marist last asked about this race in September, 59% of likely voters including those who were undecided yet leaning toward a candidate backed Schumer, 38% supported Townsend, and 3% were undecided. Among likely voters not including those who were leaning toward a candidate, Schumer received 58% to 37% for Townsend. 5% were undecided. “While many Democratic U.S. Senators are fighting for their political lives elsewhere, that’s not so for Senators Schumer and Gillibrand in New York,” says Dr. Lee M.Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “Both lead their GOP challengers.” Among likely voters including early voters and those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate, there is a partisan divide.

You will be introduced by Newt Gingrich and your speech, including Q&A, should last no more than 25 minutes. The theme of the meeting is "a time to look back, a time to look forward" and GOPAC asks that you give an analysis of the elections and what the results mean to the Republican party and the country. (Attached is information on the Senate, House, Governor, and State Legislature elections.) There will be about 75-100 people (GOPAC Charter Members and guests) in the audience; no press or media has been invited. Speeches by Alexander Haig, Frank Fahrenkopf, Governor du Pont, Jack Kemp, Jeane Kirkpatrick, and Governor Kean will precede your remarks; Pat Robertson and Donald Rumsfeld are scheduled to speak after you. Expected to be in attendance at your luncheon speech are: Congressmen Dick Cheney, Joe DioGuardi, Robert Lagomarsino, and Tom Loeffler. Author Tom Clancy (Hunt for Red October/Red Storm Rising) is also expected to attend. GOPAC Background GOPAC was formed in 1978 and its purpose is to raise funds to elect state and local Republicans nationwide. The most famous and the oldest of the charity’s awards is the PDSA Dickin Medal. It acknowledges outstanding acts of bravery displayed by animals serving with the Armed Forces or Civil Defence units in any theatre of war, worldwide. The Medal is recognised as the animals’ Victoria Cross and is the highest British honour for animal bravery in military conflicts. The medal was instituted in 1943 Maria Dickin. Maria Dickin CBE PDSA owes its foundation to the vision of one woman - Maria Elisabeth Dickin - and her determination to raise the status of animals, and the standard of their care, in society. During the First World War, Maria Dickin CBE worked to improve the dreadful state of animal health in the Whitechapel area of London. She wanted to open a clinic where East Enders living in poverty could receive free treatment for their sick and injured animals. Left: Despite the scepticism of the Establishment, Maria Dickin opened her free 'dispensary' in a Whitechapel basement on Saturday 17th November 1917. It was an immediate success and she was soon forced to find larger premises. Photo PDSA. Within six years this extraordinary woman had designed and equipped her first horse-drawn clinic and soon a fleet of mobile dispensaries was established. PDSA vehicles soon became a comforting and familiar sight throughout the country. With success came increased attention from her critics at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Ministry of Agrigulture.
