An inner lobby off the main sitting room provides access to the guest cloakroom and the snug which has a door onto the garden. Access to the cellar is from inside the house. SELLER INSIGHT The present owners, Gordon and Angela, enjoyed family holidays in the area and loved it so much that when Steeplow Cottage came onto the market, they decided to make Alstonfield their permanent home. They were so determined to own the cottage they bought it before they had sold their own house. The stone cottage dates from the late nineteenth century, when it was probably two separate cottages. It sits on the edge of the popular Alstonfield village and a five minute walk takes you to the centre which has a very busy social life centred on the church, village hall, and the good food pub. The cottage commands panoramic views across the neighbouring valley and the rolling vistas of the beautiful Peak District National Park. It is perfect for an idyllic, outdoor lifestyle with the convenience of thriving and picturesque Ashbourne, less than ten miles away. Angela explains that the cottage interior needed care and attention. They took the walls back to the stone and re plastered, added a dining room and, with great attention to detail, generally renovated throughout. It is now an ultra modern comfortable home where the inglenook and ceiling beams link it with its past. Gordon says the house is a sociable entertaining venue. Their five children return for the weekend of the annual Leaden Boot Challenge where competitors must cover twenty six hilly miles in twelve hours. Christmas and holidays again see the house alive with family, enjoying home and countryside. At such times the kitchen is the gregarious hub of the house. The large modern Aga copes with the extra demands, and ensures the kitchen provides a warm welcome home, after brisk winter walks. It is also a room for relaxation where you can quietly settle by the French doors, and watch the changing weather through the seasons. The pretty garden is a summer delight where you can enjoy the fantastic views from the comfort of the patio, which becomes the ideal al fresco dining room. The surrounding countryside is almost a vast garden extension, offering amazing walks and scenery. The cottage has given Gordon and Angela a charming lifestyle. They never intended to leave; however after five years they have decided to extend to a smallholding. They take away lovely memories. * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
