Education committee report (Mechael Kanovsky) The purpose of the Education Committee in a shul that is as highly educated as ours is twofold. The first, is to tap into the expansive pool of multitalented people that the shul is blessed with and utilize those talents to benefit of the members in giving Divrei Torah and shiurim. The second purpose is to augment the shul’s talent by bringing engaging people who can entertain and simultaneously educate the public in their areas of expertise. For both of those purposes, the Education Committee seeks the help of the membership in volunteering to give divrei Torah throughout the year and for both giving shiurim and recommending people to give lectures or be scholars in residence at Berman Shul. מרכז קהילתי ע"ש יעקב ברמן Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center Education committee report (cont.) The Education Committee would like to thank those that have participated in either giving of themselves or suggesting wonderful people from the outside to enrich us all. The Education Committee would be happy to see more people in the community participating in these activities. Additionally, the Education Committee realizes that everyone is busy and has commitments, but the success of this all-volunteer effort is dampened when only a few show up for the lectures and other activities that the Education Committee organizes. If anyone wishes to be part of the Education Committee or knows good lecturers, please contact Mechael Kanovsky at [email protected]. מרכז קהילתי ע"ש יעקב ברמן Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center Outreach committee report (Sherman Rosenfeld, Rami Shanani, Ilana Friedlander, Mechael and Penina Kanovsky, David Tannor (help from Shimon Krausz, Eliot Dobin, Sidney Cohen, Rav Moti Goldreich, Daphna and Oz Fox-Kahana, Rafi and Daniele Perl Treves, Leora and Eitan Ronen, Avital Beer, Adi Sarid, Jake Miller)) • Yom Kippur l’Kulam in Havayyot Schweitz - Approximately 350 people participate in the tfilot with many of the of tfilla leaders from Bermans (David and Sherman) • Tu B’Shvat – Fruit picking and educational stations in Colb fields organized by Psifas and Kvutzat Yachad (from Miltchin) • – Matanot l’Evyonim at Havayyot (Leora Ronen) & Berman youth reading in Havayyot (Jake Miller), • Leil Shavuot at Havayyot Schweitz (David Tannor and others), approximately 150 people participate. • Beit Midrash Ironi L’Tanach – Ten lectures per year on Tanach at Yad LaBanim (Rami Shanani and David Tannor) • Study of Kohelet and Shir Hashirim – Monthly meetings in homes • Joint activities with the Ethiopian community (Kvutzat Yachad) in Miltchin (Sherman Rosenfeld) Kehillat Hatzedek Hachevrati - Rehovot (Ilana Friedlander) Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center

Outreach committee – Gerim - report (Ilana Friedlander)

Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center Social committee report

In 2018, the social committee organized several activities around the holidays, including a Purim seudah (almost 100 people attended), pre-pesach pot-luck meal (over 150 people attended), Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration (almost 200 people attended), Shavuot parent-child learning (almost 200 people attended), decorating the sukkah (about 30 people participated) and sukkah hop for children and their families (over 100 people participated). In 2019, we're looking to continue these well attended events and incorporate one or two more. Check the bulletin for the first annual Berman's chulent cook-off in February. The social committee budget for 2018 was NIS 20,000 and we are seeking the same budget for 2018. Significant expenses included approximately NIS 8,000 for Yom Ha'atzmaut, approximately NIS 2,000 for Shavuot and approximately NIS 1,000 for Purim. During 2018, the members of the committee were Rivka Schmell-Meister, Meirav Meisner, Batya Gross and Omri Flicker. Additional assistance in organizing events was provided by Judd Bogdansky and Sorelle Weinstein. Meirav and Batya have left or will be leaving the committee and Dr. recently joined. We are always looking for additional volunteers and ideas. Volunteers can help plan one event or all events. Please feel free to contact any of us to suggest an event and help us organize future events. Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center

Kiddush committee report (Judd Bogdansky, Yair Pomerantz)

• This year we had 40 member sponsored kiddushes. • We were also successful in doing kiddushim on sukkot and pesach, celebrating purim with oznei haman and channukah with sufganiyot. We introduced hot food to the kiddush as well. • Thanks to all the kids who work the kiddushim מרכז קהילתי ע"ש יעקב ברמן Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center Hospitality committee report (Sharyn Strauss, Elisheva Feferman, Sorelle Weinstein, Lizzy Silvermetz, Dan Schanler, Marissa Yarm, Vanessa Brooks)

The hospitality committee has a multipronged approach. First: People who visit to "check out" Rehovot as an aliya possibility are invited for a Shabbat, invited for 2 meals by hosts who are in their age range or their kids and/ or similar profession. Second: People who come on aliya are given a "welcome package", are invited for meals the first two Shabbatot, and introduced to others in their (or their childrens' age range). The committee is in touch with them from the time they contact us about the possibility of moving to Rehovot till they arrive and after, to help make the process as easy and smooth as it can be. Third: There are volunteer programs where students post college come for a year and teach English, music etc. They visit Bermans and could really use invitations or adoptive families. Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center Hospitality committee report (cont.)

Some statistics: This past year we have had over 20 families join Berman's and many others show interest. There are families/people (of all ages) in touch with the hospitality committee all the time! We have seven people on the committee who email, host and help out with these interested families/people families. Thank you to Sorelle Weinstein, Dan Schanler, Lizzy Silvermetz, Marissa Yarm, Elisheva Fefferman, Vanessa Brooks for your hard work and chesed! And to our Nefesh b'Nefesh representatives, Mechael Kanovsky and Aviva Spotts! We had two consecutive shabbatot to to know new families. The first was a Shabbat in which the shul sponsored the Kiddush in honor of the new families. Following that was a Shabbat of "Mixing it Up" between families of all ages for a Shabbat meal. There was very positive feedback about both these events, particularly the hosting for a Shabbat meal. A list of new families and students is posted by the hospitality committee. There is a link to this list every week in the Bulletin in the hospitality section. Please invite often! Rabbi Jacob Berman Community Center Website/bulletin/communications
