History of Sydney Water
The history of Sydney Water Since the earliest days of European settlement, providing adequate water and sewerage services for Sydney’s population has been a constant challenge. Sydney Water and its predecessor, the Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Board, has had a rich and colourful history. This history reflects the development and growth of Sydney itself. Over the past 200 years, Sydney’s unreliable rainfall has led to the development of one of the largest per capita water supplies in the world. A truly reliable water supply was not achieved until the early 1960s after constructing Warragamba Dam. By the end of the 20th Century, despite more efficient water use, Sydney once again faced the prospect of a water shortage due to population growth and unreliable rainfall patterns. In response to this, the NSW Government, including Sydney Water, started an ambitious program to secure Sydney’s water supplies. A mix of options has been being used including water from our dams, desalination, wastewater recycling and water efficiency. Timeline 1700s 1788 – 1826 Sydney was chosen as the location for the first European settlement in Australia, in part due to its outstanding harbour and the availability of fresh water from the Tank Stream. The Tank Stream remained Sydney’s main water source for 40 years. However, pollution rapidly became a problem. A painting by J. Skinner Prout of the Tank Stream in the 1840s 1800s 1880 Legislation was passed under Sir Henry Parkes, as Premier, which constitutes the Board of Water Supply and Sewerage. 1826 The Tank Stream was abandoned as a water supply because of pollution from rubbish, sewage and runoff from local businesses like piggeries. -

Macquarie Park Traffic Study Final Report EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Background City of Ryde (CoR) is currently in the process of amending and translating its Local Environment Plan (LEP), DCP and Public Domain Plan (PDP) for Macquarie Park, in recognition of the significant growth potential of the area. With over 2,000,000m2 in commercial floor space expected, including significant expansion of Macquarie Park Shopping Centre and Macquarie University, there is a need to ensure that there is sufficient transport infrastructure for access to, from and within the area. CoR has initiated both a traffic study and a pedestrian movement study for Macquarie Park to consider the needs and effects of the proposed LEP, defined as LEP2008. This report is for the traffic study component and covers: . the establishment of a base year (2007) Paramics micro-simulation model to be used as the basis for the assessment of traffic network options out to year 2031; . using the Paramics model, developing an understanding of the traffic situation that would arise in 2031 if no changes to the current road network or LEP were made; . presenting and understanding the likely traffic patterns in 2031 to, from and within Macquarie Park and importantly how the growth between 2007 and 2031 will evolve in particular parts of Macquarie Park; . developing a case for a target public transport mode split for the area, given likely rail and bus improvements mixed with an emphasis on workplace travel plans and parking management, and hence determining what discounting of traffic demand would be reasonable to apply; . developing and testing “local” network options and connections within Macquarie Park; . -
Northconnex: Subsurface Stratum Acquisition
Proceedings of the 21st Association of Public Authority Surveyors Conference (APAS2016) Leura, New South Wales, Australia, 4-6 April 2016 NorthConnex: Subsurface Stratum Acquisition Kit Panya Roads and Maritime Services [email protected] ABSTRACT NorthConnex is a proposed 9 km tunnel motorway designed to link the M1 Pacific Motorway in Wahroonga to the Hills M2 Motorway in Pennant Hills. The tunnel is part of the NSW Government’s State Infrastructure Strategy forming an essential link in the Sydney Orbital Network and expected to cost $3 billion. In January 2015, NorthConnex received official project approval by the NSW Government. The earliest access date required for tunnel construction was July 2015. The NorthConnex project team engaged the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Cadastral Survey Unit for the stratum acquisition of approximately 900 lots. The acquisition was predominantly subsurface, but also included surface land, strata title, and community title acquisition. Between the project approval date and the tunnel access requirements, we had a timeframe of two months to acquire the first 80 lots in the initial stage. This paper outlines how the RMS Cadastral Survey Unit was able to respond, using a plan production and lodgement strategy unique to previous motorways. With Land and Property Information (LPI), we developed the Subsurface Stratum Definition Strategy to allow for the compilation of boundaries for subsurface acquisition plans. Once the strategy was in place, the extent of acquisition was determined from analysis of spatial data and the tunnel model. Compiled plan production, and occasionally field surveys, could then take place to complete the acquisition process. -

As announced recently, Australand will shortly be welcoming Bob Johnston as its new Managing Director. Bob will join Australand in August this year. At the same time the Group has farewelled Brendan Crotty who for 17 years as Managing Director has guided Australand from a $300m market capitalised residential developer to a $2bn plus fully diversified property business. -

The pesticides used is a standard mixture of Lynx WG Round-up Bioactive Herbicide All pesticide spraying is programmed between: Sunday to Thursday 8pm – 5am Works will be rescheduled if rain is forecasted within 24hours or the wind speed is above 15kmph. When controlling weeds in aquatic situations refer to label directions to minimise the entry of spray into the water. Lynx WG DO NOT use chlorine bleach with ammonia. All traces of liquid fertilizer containing ammonia, ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulphate must be rinsed with water from the mixing and application equipment before adding chlorine bleach solution. Failure to do so will release a gas with a musty chlorine odour which can cause eye, nose, throat and lung irritation. Do not clean equipment in an enclosed area. DO NOT contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the chemical or used containers. A nil withholding period is applicable for LYNX WG Herbicide. It is recommended, however, not to graze treated areas for 3 days to ensure product efficacy.
