3 Are you ready for a swashbuckling adventure? So it’s Panto time again – Oh no it isn’t! – Oh yes it is! If previous Cassington pantomimes are anything to go by, then this will be another brilliant rib-tickling production. If you haven’t got your tickets by now you will probably be out of luck. Pantomime is a very British form of theatre and a chance for us, young and old, those taking part, and those watching, to be silly and just enjoy a bit of simple, innocent humour. For a few hours we can escape this troubled world, of bombs and bullets, wars and disasters, and indulge in a make-believe world where no one gets killed or seriously injured, good always triumphs over evil, and love reigns supreme against the odds. We all need to be lifted out of ourselves from time to time, because if we only see the horror and apparent futility of our world, and the apparent futility of our own existence, then Chimney Sweep we might despair and lose any hope for ourselves and our troubled world. However, this man and his story didn’t seem to have a happy ending – it ended in his brutal murder. The man born to save Greens Funeral Services the world was killed by those in it, but that fact in itself gave Established 1866 us the victory, and his resurrection gives us that eternal hope. When the panto ends we have to return to our broken world. However, there is, in the Christian hope, a hope that lasts even when the pantomime actors have taken their final bow. 5 Find out what happens to your food waste on free tour In the run up to Christmas, residents are invited to a free tour of the Agrivert’s food waste plant to find out what happens to food leftovers collected weekly by the Council. Booking is essential for the popular hour-long tour at 10.30am on Wednesday 9 December at the anaerobic digestion plant near Cassington. All food waste in West Oxfordshire is collected weekly and recycled locally, instead of being landfilled. It is taken to an anaerobic digestion plant where it is recycled into a liquid fertiliser called ‘digestate’ for use on local farmland and renewable electricity is generated as a by-product during the process. Last year 3,200 tonnes of food waste were collected from residents – this was all taken to be recycled. The free tour gives a great insight into what happens once your food waste bin has been emptied. The Cassington plant processes food waste from across Oxfordshire and creates fertiliser for local farmers to use, along with enough electricity to power 4,000 homes on an on-going basis. To book a place on the tour call 01993 861000.

The inspection focused on four key areas: how the school, through its distinctive Christian character, meets the needs of all pupils; the impact of collective worship on the school community; the effectiveness of religious education and the effectiveness of the leadership and management of the school. The inspector, who previously carried out OFSTED inspections, was thorough and covered many areas which OFSTED will also cover when they carry out their inspection. Here is a quotation from the report:

Unique artworks, designed by local residents and artists have been used to create a fascinating trail linking east Eynsham to the River Thames. Large brightly painted information panels and way markers highlight the history of the Wharf Stream, a route used for more than 600 years for freight carrying. They also depict some of the flora and fauna that can be seen along the way. The information panels are designed by local artists Jane Tomlinson and Lorna Marrison, and mark the start and end of the trail, one being at Swinford Green, and the other near the Wharf Stream. Another local artist, Alice Walker, has designed a wooden waymarker inspired by drawings and artwork done by Eynsham Day Centre users at their weekly meetings.
