Both Dings Crusaders and their opponents changed in a local house, with the players taking their turn in a single galvanised bath after the game! Dings Crusaders’ first international “Sunny Jim” or “Darkie” James Peters played for the Dings and Knowle before AGE NOW going on to play for Bristol and then England in 1906, gaining five caps in all. COMFORTABLE RETIREMENT Dings started off the leagues in 1987/8 in Gloucester 1 (Level 9) (NB We were at Level 5 SW1 at the time) and INCOME steadily climbed up the divisions: 1990/1 Gloucester & Somerset, 1994/5 Western Counties, 1996/7 SW2 West, 2001/2 SW1 until they reached National 3 South as it was then (Level 4) for the 2003/4 season. There they remained until 2014/2015 when they were relegated for the 2015/2016 season and remained for this season. However, our paths 5 YEARS crossed for the first time when we gained promotion to National 2 South for the 2012/3 season. As can be gathered TIME from the record shown below, home advantage was the crucial factor and was the case when competed in National 2 South. However we came close in to losing at home in September 2013 in a very tight match. With just minutes to go, fullback Mark Woodrow had the chance to put the game beyond Bournemouth’s reach when Dings were awarded a penalty with the scores at 30-36. However, can I say uncharacteristically, he pulled his kick outside the near 10 YEARS TIME post. A quickly taken drop out and regather saw Bournemouth retain posssesion taking play deep into Dings’ 22m.

WEST PARLEY PARISH COUNCIL Chairman: Richard Heaslip, 2 Longfield Drive, West Parley, Ferndown BH22 8TY Tel (01202) 594982 JANUARY NEWSLETTER Woodland Walk Work has continued the area of the Sports Club field leading to Parley Wood. (footpath between Parley Sports Club and Oakland Walk). A Volunteer Chain Saw gang and helpers has made a start on the removal of the large tree stumps left in the ground or lying on the surface. Logs produced from this work are available to residents. The ground will soon be ready for clearing of tree roots and the installation of paths, signs and other amenities for visitors to Parley Wood. Parley Wood Work by our Working Parties, following the advice detailed in the Management Plan produced by the East Dorset Countryside management team, has continued in Parley Wood to remove the invasive holly etc. in the Western section of Parley Wood. This will encourage a much better ground cover to develop and allow us to arrange some attractive walks in the wood. Anyone wishing to help with this work will be warmly welcomed. We are currently meeting on Saturday mornings every 4 weeks Please contact [email protected] to offer help. 3 new footbridges will shortly be placed across the streams at the entrances to the wood. Tree planting in main road verges We shall shortly be planting about 20 trees on the verges of the main roads leading into Parley Cross. Decorative Trees have been chosen for the beauty of their blossom, foliage or bark. Several residents have kindly offered to Sponsor a tree and we invite other residents to consider doing so.

The subject of this paper may not appear, on IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE first consideration, either very interesting or very important, but most people should have some 1- av idea of how a brick is made and pottery is produced; and it is hoped that in addition to supplying this information, this paper will L. RICHARDSON, F.R.S,E., F.L.S-, F.G-5., not prove inacceptable to those to whom the selection of brickearths and brickmaking are Asia R. _i. Wliliii matters of more immediate concern. As regards land-relief, Gloucestershire may be divided into three parts—an upland, vale- land, and hill-valley district. The first bears the name of Cotteswold Hills, and is mainly capped with limestone; the second comprises the Vales of Bourton, Moreton, Evesham, Gloucester, and Berkeley, which are mainly floored with Lias clay ; while the third embraces from the northern part of the Bristol Coalfield and the Forest of Dean, -wherein both limestone and clay prevail. Hence, as might be expected, stone is the chief building-material in the first, Proceedings of the Cheltenham brick in the second, and stone and brick in the third. PART I. Natural Science Society In order that the reader may have a correct idea of where the deposits that have been utilised for brickmaking in Gloucestershire occur in the earth's crust, the following table is Part 1: Volume 1 (4) pp 223-232 (1909-10) presented (Table 1.).
