NYEEI Theater Benefit Raises Funds for Pediatric Ophthalmology

On March 7, 2010, more than 100 guests came together for a theater benefit held on behalf of The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Hosted by a remarkable ten-year-old former patient, Lillian Pravda, the event raised nearly $40,000 to assist children by supporting costs related to pediatric eye surgeries, including supplies and equipment. In 2009, Lillian, who serves as special ambas sador to the hospital, took the initiative to create the Vision for and from Children campaign to benefit children from around the world who come to New York Eye and Ear for sight-saving medical intervention. Created in honor of her surgeon, Brian Campolattaro, MD, the campaign was in spired by the experience of her own vision-relat ed surgeries—and by her visits to the hospital’s pediatric unit where she spoke with patients and their parents.
