They include Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban, Maratua, Panjang and Samama Island and submerged reefs and islets. They are located in the Sulawesi (Celebes) Sea, on the coastal shelf of East Kalimantan. Located in a biodiversity hotspot off the coast of Borneo, the Derawan Islands are part of the coral triangle and feature 872 species of reef fishes, 507 species of coral, and invertebrates, including protected species (5 giants clam species, 2 sea turtles, coconut crab, etc). Some of the islands have the largest green turtle nesting sites in

Indonesia. Derawan Dive Lodge is a small dive resort located on Derawan Island. Derawan’s outstanding location offers you the chance to see mantas, a lake of non-stinging jellyfish and schooling barracuda. “The Channel” or “Big Fish Country” dive sites, with a little bit of luck and the right timing, you will be able to see barracuda tornados, grey reef sharks and eagle rays. Macro fans will enjoy finding pygmy seahorses, blue-ring octopus and frogfish. Really, the best of both worlds.

DERAWAN DIVE LODGE—DERAWAN ISLAND

Derawan Dive Lodge is built from wood with the Minahasan style concept, following Tasik Divers’ origin from the land of Minahasan, Manado. The dive lodge consist of 2 ocean view cottages, 6 beach chalet rooms and 2 family duplex rooms. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, hot/cold shower, safety box, day bed which functions as third bed and are furnished in a functional minimalist style. You are within walking distance from the beach to enjoy your swim in the crystal clear sea.

Sample flight schedule: Dates at the resort are October 23-Nov 4, 2020 October 20-depart—Cathay Pacific Vancouver, BC-Hong Kong-Jakarta YVR – CGK 00:55 - 13:10+1 (arriving on Oct 21) 2 nights stay in Jakarta.

October 23-depart--Garuda airlines Jakarta-Balikpapan- Berau CGK – BPN 04:55 – 08:05 BPN – BEJ 08:50 – 09:45

Upon arrival in Berau, there is a 2 hour car ride and an hour boat ride to the resort.

November 4-return BEJ – BPN 17:40 – 18:40 BPN – CGK 19:45 -20:55 1 night stay in Jakarta.

November 5-depart for home CKG –YVR 14:25 – 20:25 (arrive on Nov 5) or there is an earlier flight departing at 08:25 getting you home at 11:35.

This trip is for adventure travelers. The food will be an Asian mix and the resort is able to accommodate vegetarians. You will need to be an advanced diver and comfortable in current.
