At present, the company is the headquarter of a largest European group – Gruppo Meregalli - which core business and know-how have been diffused through their foreign distribution subsidiaries in France and Swiss. Meregalli Group exclusively represents Tenuta San Guido wines included SASSICAIA on the Italian, French and Swiss markets and also in some other important European Countries such as Greece and Cyprus. Moreover in other countries all over the world as Latvia, Republic of Belarus, Moldavia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Jordan, Turkey, Vietnam & Cambodia, Philippines, Seychelles, Guatemala, Nicaragua. Since the end of December 2008, Meregalli Group has become the 100% owner of the Tuscan winery FERTUNA, a real “pearl” in the heart of Maremma, producing excellent wines. 2 Fertuna is located in the heart of Maremma Toscana. The land is quiet and peaceful, where the uncontaminated nature rules. In this part of Tuscany the human touch has acted in accordance with nature, drawing an amphitheatre of vineyards. This area was the cradle of Etruscan and then Roman culture, with the presence of many necropolis; Golfo di Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala till the Argentario complete the dream context. The Maremma is an area not jet hardly exploited for wine production but step by step it shows all its potential to bring to life high-quality wines; in fact in the last years has become a main place of exploration for most important investments in the wine field. This is the magnificent place where Fertuna rises, a brand new winery born in 1997, managed counting on the oenological know-how of Mr Paolo Rivella, important wine-maker who inherited the best knowledge of the modern oenology, not forgetting the precious lesson of the tradition that his uncle has transmitted him. Paolo Rivella is in fact the nephew of the famous Cavaliere Ezio Rivella the person that gave to Italian wines importance and International notoriety: at present he’s the President of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. That’s why Fertuna in situated where there were any previous wine facilities; that place was chosen based on the intuition that was the right one for building up in Maremma a new challenge. Fertuna is an unusual version of an Italian wine cellar. No ostentation, but a real tribute to terroir and to men’s devotion. 3 The medieval cross, emblem of the winery, was inspired by a symbol found in the ancient S.Antimo abbey. Moreover is interesting the consonance with the word “fortune”, which sounds like a good wish. Not forgetting the theme “fert”, coming from Latin “fertus”, meaning fertile, tribute to the Maremma vivid terroir. So a name, FERTUNA, evoking tradition, faith, hope and best auspices. The global estate takes about 150 hectares. > 50 are currently used for the production of different varieties of grape , subdivided in 21 specific parcels. > The remaining surface, apart a vast area of 5,5 ha planted of olive trees, could be potentially exploited to enlarged the production: the potential capacity is of about 600.000 bottles a year. An hyper technological cellar, placed at the centre of vineyards, shows the potentiality of the project of this estate. The wooden structure is the best example of modern technology that doesn’t forget tradition, recalled in the barriquerie. Unique is the rustic housing part surrounded by a 20.000 sqm park.     TENUTA SAN GUIDO Guidalberto Toscana IGT 2016 REGION: Italy / Tuscany GRAPES: 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon 40 % Merlot Guidalberto is from the producers of the legendary Sassicaia. Grapes are harvested and transported to an independent cellar. Fermentation takes place separately for each variety in temperature-controlled steel vats before undergoing maceration. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels and refined in bottle before release. HARVEST NOTE The 2016 vintage is considered one of the best of the last decade. The year began with a rather rainy winter and low temperatures toward the end of the season, especially in February when rains and cold temperatures were below the seasonal average. In mid-April the rise of the temperatures caused an early sprouting of the vines. The early spring was characterized by an alternation of rainy and sunny days with temperatures slightly below the seasonal average until mid-June, when summer finally arrived with temperatures above 88 ° F. Summer days were quite hot but never dry thanks to the strong ventilation during the day and the very positive climate excursion between days and nights. Thanks to these factors and to the good water supply of the soils, vines did not suffer any water stress. Grapes were well distributed on the plants with an homogeneous size of the berries. TASTING NOTE Ruby red limpid look, the aromatic range goes from red berries and spices to dark hints of tobacco and brushwood. Well-structured and with velvet tannins, this wine will evolve over the next few years.     Vinum Fine Wine List • July-August 2014 A Visit to Bolgheri and the Wonderful WinesBy of Paul LiversedgeOrnellaia MW and Sassicaia Bolgheri is currently one of the most exciting wine producing areas of Italy - and indeed the world. The region first came to the public’s attention as recently as 1968 with the launch vintage of Nicolas Incisa della Rocchetta’s Sassicaia. However, it was only when Decanter magazine voted Sassicaia 1978 their top wine in a blind tasting of 38 different Cabernet producers across the world, and then Robert Parker awarded Sassicaia 1985 100 points, that the region’s huge quality potential began to be properly appreciated. Bolgheri is a small and beautiful DOC in the South West of Tuscany covering 1220 hectares of vines, most of which grow on hillsides about 5 kms inland from the Mediterranean Sea. The scenery and views over the Mediterranean from these hillside vineyards is literally breathtaking, and the climate in this small area has to be one of the most perfect for grape growing in all Europe. It is for this reason that Bolgheri is often referred to as the “California of Europe.” The area is a little sunnier and warmer than the rest of Tuscany - Brunello di Montalcino and the Chianti region – but with a constant refreshing breeze which cools the vines on the hillsides. The best wines from Bolgheri are red and are made principally from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot grapes; this is NOT top Sangiovese country. Because of the long sunshine hours the red grapes have no problems in ripening to perfection each year and produce wines with silky smooth, perfectly ripe tannins and very concentrated fruit flavours.

Often it’s a wine made in larger quantities than a producer’s “first” wine and priced much lower. The second-label concept probably originated in Bordeaux, where a winery’s first-label bottling is known as its grand vin. I’ve tasted some seconds from that region that were quite good and some that were worse than mediocre. (One recent standout: the 2016 Confidences de Prieuré- Lichine, second label of Château Prieuré-Lichine.)
