The construction of the Jungfrau Railway numbers among the most impressive achievements in railway technology. The brainchild of Zurich industrialist Adolf Guyer-Zeller, the railway was officially opened on 1 August 1912 after a building period of 16 years. It runs from Kleine Scheidegg through the Eiger to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, Europe’s highest-altitude railway station at 3454 metres above sea level.

Aletsch Self-service The Aletsch self-service restaurant on the first floor seats up to 300 people. It offers an extensive range of cuisine for guests of all nationalities, as well as sensational views of the Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding Alpine world.

Bollywood – Indian Cuisine The newly renovated Bollywood Restaurant is open from the beginning of April to the end of October. Our Indian kitchen team prepares a lavish buffet with Indian specialities. Treat yourself to an exotic change of menu. The restaurant seats up to 156 persons.

From Eigergletscher to Kleine Scheidegg

The theme trail, which tells of the triumphs and tragedies on the Eiger North Wall, can be walked in one hour. The wide path from the Eigergletscher station down to Kleine Scheidegg can also be hiked uphill in the opposite direction. The trail passes the original hut in which mountaineers spent the night before beginning their ascent. The interactive, multimedia installation in the ‘Kirchli’ (a former transformer station, often said to resemble a small church) shows the ascents of the world-famous wall of rock. The boulders around the lake are memorials to the mountaineers who have lost their lives on the Eiger.

Schynige Platte Railway (Wilderswil – Schynige Platte) Opened in 1893, the nostalgic cogwheel railway carries visitors up to breathtaking mountain scenery and a popular hiking region with unparalleled views of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau. The railway’s lovingly maintained historic locomotives and carriages make the 50-minute journey itself a wonderful experience for people of all ages. Steam train trips can be arranged for groups on request. Located at 1967 metres above sea level, are a mountain hotel and Botanical Alpine Garden with 600 different species of plants.

Schynige Platte Mountain Hotel The mountain hotel, built in 1899 and renovated with nostalgic flair in summer 2011, offers tranquillity and relaxation. Up to 42 guests can be accommodated in rustically appointed rooms with two or three beds. The restaurant seats 100 guests in the panorama dining room and 20 in the ‘Stubliʹ. The terrace can seat 100 guests with table service and a further 120 in the self-service section. Guests are treated to wholesome Swiss cuisine and international dishes. The mountain restaurant is also ideal for seminars. The seminar room is provided with up-to-date technical equipment with seating for 100 participants.

Harder Railway (Interlaken Ost – Harder Kulm) The Harder Railway was opened in 1908. It takes less than 10 minutes to travel from Interlaken up to the Harder Kulm, Interlaken’s home mountain. Here, at 1322 m above sea level, you enjoy fabulous views of the Jungfrau Region with the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The Panorama restaurant and the Two Lakes Bridge vantage platform are among the main attractions on Harder Kulm.

Harder Kulm Kulm Panorama Restaurant In the afternoon, when it’s too late for longer tours, it’s still worthwhile making the trip up the Harder. It’s a great place to start various hikes or simply enjoy the stunning views. The panorama restaurant serves traditional Swiss fare and has seating for 140 guests inside and 200 outside.
