In this full-time role, you will work to provide support and activities in the municipal areas to facilitate economic growth. The role incorporates working with stakeholders to identify opportunities to support and enhance economic success across a range of industries. You will require a tertiary qualification in economic development or tourism business management or similar, a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role and strong skills in marketing, promotion and event management. Whilst the incumbent’s primary employer is Kentish Council, the position requires provision of services to both Councils. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE • To provide support and activities in the Kentish and Latrobe municipal communities to facilitate economic growth. KEY FUNCTIONS • Support Council and the municipality determine its economic goals. • Foster and grow the Tourism industry in the municipality as a key economic driver for Tasmania. • Work with stakeholders to identify activities that will support and enhance their economic success. ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Collect, maintain, and analyse the socio-economic data of the local government areas and the region of which they are a part. 2. Contribute to the long term planning of the region and specifically of the two Council areas. 3. Design, facilitate, organise, and undertake economic development activities, often largely tourism related and special events as identified in the Councils’ operating plans. 4. Liaise and provide assistance to the Community Development Officer, specifically marketing and promotion event management advice. 5. Support the operations of the Visitor Information Centres by providing information and advice. 5 | Page 6. Identify and determine eligibility for grant funding together with preparing grant submissions to support Council and/or current or future municipal businesses in meeting goals. 7. Prepare relevant reports and recommendations for consideration of the leadership team as it relates to areas involving economic development and tourism. 8. Undertake marketing, communications, and branding activities incorporating print, radio, web and social media platforms, promoting the local government areas. 9. Undertake educational and training activities in order to support economic development knowledge and skills among internal and external stakeholders. 10. Provide input and support to the leadership team in the development of economic development policy generally and as it applies to specific focus areas i.e. Tourism, retail, farming, light industrial etc. 11. Provide technical advice and input, including technical responses to customer and committee enquiries. 12. Engage with relevant industry bodies and community organisations regarding internal and external events, opportunities, services, funding, programming, and other relevant information. 13. Represent Council with external bodies as required, including state and local government bodies and other relevant associations, groups, and organisations. 14. Develop, prioritise, coordinate and deliver initiatives as identified in Council’s plans and budgets. 17. The position requires the understanding and adherence to guidelines, process and policy to deliver Council requirements. The nature of the work is problem solving oriented requiring creativity and innovation. Decision making still requires analysis of data to reach decisions and/or determine progress. CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS • A degree in Economic Development or Tourism Business Management or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar role OR an equivalent combination of skills, experience and training. • Demonstrated knowledge of the tourism industry as a key driver of economic development in Tasmania, including history and opportunities to innovate, grow and develop. • Experience collecting, analysing and interpreting economic determinates data and identifying areas to improve in and strategies to achieve this. • Experience in creating, organising and managing events for various social groups, including event evaluation whilst also being able to take a support and mentor role for others in developing and running events. • Experience in promotional works including use of channels of print, radio, web and social media platforms. • A recent track record of identifying funding opportunities (financial or in-kind) and working through processes including grant applications to enable funding
