Local government boundary changes in the early 1970s led to the creation of the Cleveland and HuMberside Counties. Cleveland and adjacent constituencies have been included in the Index for the North East Region. HuMberside constituencies coMMencing with the General Election of February 1974 are included in the Yorkshire Region. The region has been home to an impressive gallery of party personalities, several of whoM receive extended entries. The spirited independence with respect to LPO HQ in London which the Yorkshire Regional Party has often shown, and the relatively strong direction it has exerted over its constituency associations, would account for the formidable challenge maintained in the Region at successive general elections, even in the direst years of party fortunes. Yorkshire appears to have been rather less willing in 1950 to heed to the dictates of the Martell Plan (see article below) than other regions. Even so, until the 1970s there were several Labour-held Mining and industrial constituencies where the Party declined to fight. InforMation on Many candidates reMains sparse.     Candidate’s Statement of Unpaid Claims and Loans 18 or 36 Months after Election Day (EC 20003) – Instructions When to use this form The official agent for a candidate must submit this form to Elections Canada if unpaid amounts recorded in the candidate’s electoral campaign return are still unpaid 18 months or 36 months after election day. The first update must be submitted no later than 19 months after the election date, covering unpaid claims and loans as of 18 months after election day. The second update must be submitted no later than 37 months after election day, covering unpaid claims and loans as of 36 months after election day. Note that when a claim or loan is paid in full, the official agent must submit an amended Candidate’s Electoral Campaign Return (EC 20120) showing the payments and the sources of funds for the payments within 30 days after making the final payment. Tips for completing this form Part 1 ED code, Electoral district: Refer to Annex I for a list of electoral district codes and names. Declaration: The official agent must sign the declaration attesting to the completeness and accuracy of the statement by hand.     APPENDIX I The Carlton Club Meeting, 19 October 1922 This appendix lists the vote at the Carlton Club Meeting of all Conservative M.P.s It is based on a list in the Austen Chamber­ lain Papers (AC/33/2/92), and has been checked against public statements by the M.P.s of their votes at the meeting. In two cases the public statements disagreed with Chamberlain's list. They were Sir R. Greene (Hackney North) and C. Erskine-Bolst (Hackney South). Chamberlaine's list said that Greene supported the Coalition, while Erskine-Bolst opposed it. The two men indicated that they had the opposite opinion, and their votes may have been transposed in Chamberlain's list. The appendix gives information on the attitude of Conserva­ tive M.P.s towards the Coalition before the Carlton Club Meet­ ing, and it also lists some M.P.s who were present but who according to Chamberlain did not vote. R. R. James, using a different source, published a list of the M.P.s voting at the Carlton Club (Memoirs Of A Conservative, 130-3). He gave the total vote as 185 opponents of the Coalition, and 88 supporters, and he lists 184 opponents of the Coalition. M.P.s who were listed differently from Chamberlain's accounting were: H. C. On 30 March, the 77 men who’d already leant their support met at what would be the Chemical Society’s first official meeting; at that meeting, Thomas Graham was unanimously elected to be the Society’s first president. The other main decision made at the 30 March meeting was on the system by which the Chemical Society would be organised: “That the ordinary members shall elect out of their own body, by ballot, a President, four Vice-Presidents, a Treasurer, two Secretaries, and a Council of twelve, four of Introduction whom may be non-resident, by whom the business of the Society shall be conducted.” At the first Annual General Meeting the following year, in March 1842, the Bye Laws were formally enshrined, and the ‘Duty of the President’ was stated: “To preside at all Meetings of the Society and Council. To take the Chair at all ordinary Meetings of the Society, at eight o’clock precisely, and to regulate the order of the proceedings. A Member shall not be eligible as President of the Society for more than two years in succession, but shall be re-eligible after the lapse of one year.” Little has changed in the way presidents are elected; they still have to be a member of the Society and are elected by other members.
