In addition to her teaching she has taken extramural trips with groups of students to regional and national conferences and to visit graduate research laboratories. Goy holds a bachelor’s degree from the University and master’s from the University of Louisiana- Lafayette. Her doctorate degree is in molecular genetics from the University of North Texas. A member of the Genetics Society of America, Goy has served as mentor for students attending its conference and has accompanied students to a variety of other academic conferences. She also has served as McNair Scholar mentor and department seminar coordinator. After retiring at the end of the school year, she plans to work with women in the rural village of Raipur, Maharashtra, India, and assist in development of programs designed to empower young women to set and reach personal goals and to empower widows to achieve self-sufficiency.
