Johnston, Jr., our speaker. proved to be a huge success. It was pure pleasure to hear Mr. Johnston's fluent eloquence. Speaking from a background that includes years of avidly collecting data in North Carolina and Virginia he is undoubtedly one of our foremost genealogists. He has contributed to many publications and is affiliated with Atlantic Christian College in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages. Mr. anrl Mrs. Johnston live on Thomas Farms, inherited from his mother and in his family since 1747. A small replica of Mount Vernon. it is located in Wilson County. a few miles from Wilson. North Carolina. We found Mr. and Mrs. Johnston charming and hope they will visit us again. Your President and Board would like to express appreciation for the help we received in conducting the Seminar. Our thanks to Miss Jessie Webb and her committee. also Mrs. J. E. Hamer for an excellent job of reservation chairman and anyone else I might have overlooked. The nominating committee was elected at the July meeting. An intriguing discussion of Northwest England and the origin of its early inhabitants are covered in the first chapters. It includes a review of the families of Lewis Boak of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Boak of South Carolina and Alabama and William W. Boak of Virginia and Iowa. Allied families mentioned are Jean (s), Wilbur, Glover, Hibben, Milhous, McCoppin, Stafford, Lucas, McKinniss, Phares, Cook and Fitchen. It is composed of nine parts (forty-one chapters) which include maternal lines where possible, old pictures, etc. E1ev~n chapters are devoted to collateral lines: Andrus, Tracy, Barrett, Lacy, Clark, Chittenden, Galusha, Huntington, Lamb,Ranney, Chester, Safford, Spencer, Brookes and Benjamin. William, Stephen and Rowland Johnson, brothers, moved from South Carolina to Carroll County, Tennessee in the 1820's. This book is well written and full of information about many early Carroll County families. It is a sequel to TENNESSEE MURPHYS-MURPHEYS and ALLIED FAMILIES, Volume 1, (1968) which was reviewed in Ansearchin" News.
