The new species is macroscopically and microscopically very similar to L. sykosporum and L. transforme, but its spore shape is quite different. Molecular analysis also supports L. rhombisporum as an independent species. Key words — Agaricomycetes, mushroom, taxonomy, ITS, phylogeny Introduction Lyophyllum is a genus in the Lyophyllaceae (Agaricales) with about 40 species, which are widespread in north temperate regions (Kirk et al. 2008). A few Lyophyllum species are well-known edible mushrooms, such as L. shimeji (Kawam.) Hongo, L. decastes (Fr.) Singer, and L. fumosum (Pers.) P.D. Orton. Research in China has reported 19 Lyophyllum species (Li 2002; Li et al. 2005; Dai & Tolgor 2007; Li & Li 2009), but more research is still needed on the taxonomy, molecular phylogeny, and cultivation of this genus. Here we describe a new species, L. rhombisporum from Yiliang County, Yunnan Province, in southwestern China. Materials & methods Microscopic and macroscopic characters were described based on the specimen material (L1736) following the methods of Yang & Zhang (2003). -

Accepted 11 November, 2011 A new genus of Agaricales, Leucocalocybe was erected for a species Tricholoma mongolicum in this study. Leucocalocybe was distinguished from the other genera by a unique combination of macro- and micro-morphological characters, including a tricholomatoid habit, thick and short stem, minutely spiny spores and white spore print. The assignment of the new genus was supported by phylogenetic analyses based on the LSU sequences. The results of molecular analyses demonstrated that the species was clustered in tricholomatoid clade, which formed a distinct lineage. Key words: Agaricales, taxonomy, Tricholoma, tricholomatoid clade. INTRODUCTION The genus Tricholoma (Fr.) Staude is typified by having were re-described. Accordingly, we proposed to erect a new and pleurocystidia (Singer, 1986). Most species of this genus, Leucocalocybe, to circumscribe the unique genus form obligate ectomycorrhizal associations with combination of features characterizing this fungus and a forest trees, only a few species in the subgenus necessary new combination. -

[email protected] Abstract: Basidiomata of Tricholomella constricta (Fr.) Zerova ex Kalamees belonging to Lyophyllaceae are collected from Halkalı-İstanbul and studied using both morphologic and molecular methods. According to the classical systematic the genus Tricholomella Zerova ex Kalamees contains more than one species, such as T. constricta and T. leucocephala. Our studies found out that the two species are not genetically too different, but conspecific and a new description is needed including the members with- or without annulus. In this study, illustrations, a short discussion and a simple phylogenetic tree are provided. Zerova ex Kalamees’in İstanbul-Halkalı’dan toplanan bazidiyomaları hem morfolojik ve hem de moleküler yöntemlerle çalışılmıştır. Klasik sistematiğe göre Tricholomella Zerova ex Kalamees genusu, T. constricta ve T. leucocephala gibi birden fazla tür içermektedir. Çalışmalarımız, bu iki türün genetik olarak birbirinden çok da farklı olmadığını, aynı tür içerisinde olduğunu ve annulus içeren ve de içermeyen türleri içerisine alan yeni bir deskripsiyon yapılması gerektiğini ortaya çıkarmıştır. -

15 2 The Numbers Behind Mushroom Biodiversity Anabela Martins Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, School of Agriculture (IPB-ESA), Portugal 2.1 Origin and Diversity of Fungi Fungi are difficult to preserve and fossilize and due to the poor preservation of most fungal structures, it has been difficult to interpret the fossil record of fungi. Hyphae, the vegetative bodies of fungi, bear few distinctive morphological characteristicss, and organisms as diverse as cyanobacteria, eukaryotic algal groups, and oomycetes can easily be mistaken for them (Taylor & Taylor 1993). Fossils provide minimum ages for divergences and genetic lineages can be much older than even the oldest fossil representative found. According to Berbee and Taylor (2010), molecular clocks (conversion of molecular changes into geological time) calibrated by fossils are the only available tools to estimate timing of evolutionary events in fossil‐poor groups, such as fungi. The arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiotic fungi from the division Glomeromycota, gen- erally accepted as the phylogenetic sister clade to the Ascomycota and Basidiomycota, have left the most ancient fossils in the Rhynie Chert of Aberdeenshire in the north of Scotland (400 million years old). The Glomeromycota and several other fungi have been found associated with the preserved tissues of early vascular plants (Taylor et al. 2004a). Fossil spores from these shallow marine sediments from the Ordovician that closely resemble Glomeromycota spores and finely branched hyphae arbuscules within plant cells were clearly preserved in cells of stems of a 400 Ma primitive land plant, Aglaophyton, from Rhynie chert 455–460 Ma in age (Redecker et al. 2000; Remy et al. 1994) and from roots from the Triassic (250–199 Ma) (Berbee & Taylor 2010; Stubblefield et al. -
