Renewables are outcompeting fossil fuels economically, and there is a clear political consensus behind achieving net zero emissions. The challenge of the next decade is to build our future energy system faster and deliver solutions to new challenges. RenewableUK will be there to support our members in the next phase of the transition. The last 12 months have been momentous for the UK’s offshore wind sector. The signing of the Offshore Wind Sector Deal in March 2019 set new ambitions for 2030 – at least 30GW of capacity will provide over a third of our power needs and our industry will support over 27,000 jobs. Then, in September 2019, the results of the latest Contracts for Difference auction delivered a record 5.5GW of new capacity at record low prices. The spectacular growth of this industry means that offshore wind will be the backbone of our clean, modern energy system. While the onshore wind sector still faces significant market challenges and barriers to deployment, in the past year we’ve made the case more powerfully than ever that onshore wind is a vital technology for meeting our net zero emissions target and doing This Directory so in a way that makes the transition cheaper for consumers and businesses. We are continuing to work on behalf of the industry to secure support for new onshore wind showcases the “ developments and vital repowering in the next decade. success, capabilities The next phase of technology development will see innovative new technologies and variety of our like floating offshore wind, tidal stream and wave technologies follow the path of member companies” wind energy from the first arrays to mainstream deployment and we look forward to continuing our work with members on these exciting new opportunities. This Directory showcases the success, capabilities and variety of our member companies. From family-owned British firms to European and global companies, the businesses in our industry are providing jobs to tens of thousands of people, creating new opportunities and bringing local investment in towns and cities across the UK. I am, personally, very proud to be able to represent these companies and I wish you continued success in the year ahead.
