Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings January 23, 2018 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1992-The Reds sign Scott Bankhead of the Mariners as a free-agent. Bankhead will spend one season with the Reds, collecting a 10-4 record, with a 2.93 ERA in 70.2 innings pitched, allowing just four home runs MLB.COM Senzel named No. 2 third base prospect Highly-touted player set to experiment with SS/2B, outfield in Spring Training By Mark Sheldon MLB.com @m_sheldon 12:48 AM ET CINCINNATI -- Nick Senzel was an elite and highly anticipated prospect the moment the Reds selected him with the second overall pick in 2016. That latest accolade was revealed on Tuesday when Senzel was ranked as the No. 2 third baseman in the Minor Leagues by MLB Pipeline. Senzel, 22, placed one spot behind the No. 1 third baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays. Ranked No. 1 in the organization by MLB Pipeline, and No. 9 in all of MLB, Senzel batted .321/.391/.514 with 14 home runs and 65 RBIs in 119 games combined last season at Class A Advanced Daytona and Double-A Pensacola. He missed a few games in the final week while being treated for vertigo, but has overcome the issue through therapy. One of the bigger questions facing Senzel and the Reds this season is whether he will actually get to play third base. Cincinnati is happy with Eugenio Suarez there and plans to have Senzel show off some versatility in Spring Training. At his first big league camp, Senzel will get opportunities to play shortstop and second base -- positions he previously played as an amateur -- and will get his first exposure to the outfield.

At this point, general manager Al Avila said Wednesday afternoon, signing right-handed starter Jordan Zimmermann is the biggest of those moves. And at this point, Avila reiterated, it’s unlikely the team will add another big contract. “We’ve got a lot of big contracts already within our own team, and we feel good about the team moving forward,” Avila told Free Press columnist Drew Sharp and Matt Dery in a lengthy interview on WMGC-FM (105.1). “So, I’d say at this point, we’re pretty satisfied with the makeup of the team and the outlook so far.” Avila was answering specifically to the inquisition of their future interest in outfielders Yoenis Cespedes and Alex Gordon, should their markets stay stalled and owner Mike Ilitch get the itch to put the team over the top with another long-term, lucrative signing.

The 2018 TBL Annual 3 the TBL baseball annual Welcome to the 2018 TBL Baseball Annual. This is the twenty-third year of the Annual in the book format. This year we’re looking at what we call The New Normal: hitting cards, and offenses, based on power with lots of strikeouts. One of our most insightful colleagues, Joe Auletta, gives us some excellent analysis on how things have already changed and what we should make of it all. Our usual features are mostly here, but we don’t have the Vegas Line this year due to our friend and colleague Paul Harrington’s illness. We hope to have it back next year. Enjoy the Annual and enjoy the season. Walter, Robert, Mark June, 2018 The T.Q. System Shamelessly stolen from the Mazeroski annual, the T.Q. System assigns points to each area of the team’s expected performance and totals the result.

Associated Press p. 8 Twins hold off White Sox to end losing streak at 13 games La Velle E. Neal III | Star Tribune | September 2, 2016 The Twins have been embarrassed, frustrated and baffled by the bad baseball bug that has bit them late in the season and has them hurtling toward 100 losses. But, Thursday night, they felt relief. A couple of big blows enabled them to hold off the White Sox 8-5 at Target Field. It ended their losing streak at 13 games, one shy of the 1982 Twins for the longest losing streak in club history. So, for the first time since Aug. 17 at Atlanta, the Twins shook hands on the field and smiled after a game. One great thing about baseball, there’s always another game to get things right. But the mounting losses were too much to use the short-memory technique.

  • Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2
Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2 • The first wave of free agents entered the marketplace on Oct. 1 as 43 players elected free agency, the majority of them under Article XX(D) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It reads in part: “Any player who has at least three years of major league service, or who qualified as a “Super Two” player . and whose contract is assigned outright to a minor league club may elect, in lieu of accepting such assignment, to become a free agent. In the event that such a player with at least three years of major league service does not elect free agency in lieu of accepting such assignment, he may elect free agency between the end of the then current major league season and the next following Oct. 15, unless such player is returned to a major league roster prior to making such election.” • The recalls in this installment are paperwork moves owing to the fact that, with the minor league season and playoffs concluded, players can no longer be sent on optional assignments. According to MLR 11(b)4 “A Major League Club may recall a player not to report after the conclusion of the championship season of the Minor League Club to which the player is on optional assignment but no later than October 1” Arizona Diamondbacks Signed: RHP Seth Lintz (Laredo (American Association)), RHP Dustin Loggins (Kansas City (American Association)), RHP Jacob Roberts (Bridgeport (Atlantic)), LHP Sean Mahley (Schaumburg (Frontier)), OF Dan Bowman (Lake Erie (Frontier)), OF Steve McQuail (Schaumburg (Frontier)) Elected free agency:
