Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2 Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2 • The first wave of free agents entered the marketplace on Oct. 1 as 43 players elected free agency, the majority of them under Article XX(D) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It reads in part: “Any player who has at least three years of major league service, or who qualified as a “Super Two” player . and whose contract is assigned outright to a minor league club may elect, in lieu of accepting such assignment, to become a free agent. In the event that such a player with at least three years of major league service does not elect free agency in lieu of accepting such assignment, he may elect free agency between the end of the then current major league season and the next following Oct. 15, unless such player is returned to a major league roster prior to making such election.” • The recalls in this installment are paperwork moves owing to the fact that, with the minor league season and playoffs concluded, players can no longer be sent on optional assignments. According to MLR 11(b)4 “A Major League Club may recall a player not to report after the conclusion of the championship season of the Minor League Club to which the player is on optional assignment but no later than October 1” Arizona Diamondbacks Signed: RHP Seth Lintz (Laredo (American Association)), RHP Dustin Loggins (Kansas City (American Association)), RHP Jacob Roberts (Bridgeport (Atlantic)), LHP Sean Mahley (Schaumburg (Frontier)), OF Dan Bowman (Lake Erie (Frontier)), OF Steve McQuail (Schaumburg (Frontier)) Elected free agency: SS Josh Wilson Recalled: RHP Chase Anderson, RHP Charles Brewer, RHP Zeke Spruill, LHP David Holmberg, LHP Joe Paterson, LHP Tyler Skaggs, OF Keon Broxton, OF Alfredo Marte Atlanta Braves Recalled: RHP Cory Gearrin, RHP Juan Jaime, RHP Aaron Northcraft, 1B Ernesto Mejia, 2B Phil Gosselin, OF Todd Cunningham Baltimore Orioles Elected free agency: RHP Jairo Asencio, C Taylor Teagarden Recalled: RHP Dylan Bundy, LHP Tsuyoshi Wada Reinstated from DL: LHP Elias Pinales, LHP Jorge Rivera Boston Red Sox Elected free agency: RHP Alfredo Aceves Reinstated from DL: 3B Jantzen Witte Chicago Cubs Signed: RHP Marcus Hatley (re-signed) Elected free agency: RHP Michael Bowden, RHP Eduardo Sanchez Recalled: RHP Trey McNutt, RHP Neil Ramirez, 3B Mike Olt, 3B Christian Villanueva, 3B Josh Vitters, OF Brett Jackson, OF Jorge Soler, OF Matt Szczur Chicago White Sox Elected free agency: LHP Leyson Septimo, C Hector Gimenez Removed from 40-man: C Miguel Gonzalez (outrighted to Triple-A) Cincinnati Reds Signed: RHP Shane Dyer (re-signed), 3B Ray Chang (re-signed) Released: RHP Robert Lewis-Walker, RHP Jesus Parra, 2B Yonatan Suero Recalled: RHP Carlos Contreras, RHP Daniel Corcino, LHP Ismael Guillon, OF Donald Lutz, OF Yorman Rodriguez Reinstated from DL: OF Jonathan Martijn Cleveland Indians Elected free agency: RHP Joe Martinez Recalled: RHP Trevor Bauer, RHP Trey Haley, LHP T.J. He hit just .160 in 27 games this year, his age-27 season, and spent most of his time at Triple-A Colorado Springs. Now, he’s a minor league free agent following his outright off the 40-man roster. Even so, the Rockies probably don’t have any regrets about the December 2011 trade that sent Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers to the Cubs for Colvin and second baseman D.J. LeMahieu. Detroit Tigers Signed: RHP Wilsen Palacios (re-signed) Houston Astros Elected free agency: RHP Hector Ambriz, RHP Edgar Gonzalez, LHP Wade LeBlanc Recalled: RHP Jose Cisnero, RHP John Ely, LHP Rudy Owens, OF Eric Thames Added to 40-man roster: 1B Jonathan Singleton Removed from 40-man: RHP Phil Humber, C Cody Clark, C Matt Pagnozzi, 3B Brandon Laird (all players outrighted to Triple-A) The Astros elected to add Triple-A first baseman Jonathan Singleton to the 40-man roster on Oct. 2, thus shielding him from selection in this winter’s Rule 5 draft, but doing so at a time with no apparent impetus. The deadline to add Rule 5 eligibles, like Singleton, doesn’t arrive until Nov. 20, and no other organization has been as quick on the trigger this offseason. That includes the Astros, who haven’t yet added any of their other Rule 5 eligibles to the 40-man. Anderson goes 4, Tribe hitless for 7 1/3 in loss By Chris Gabel / Special to MLB.com | March 11th, 2016 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Five Rockies pitchers held the Indians without a baserunner for 7 1/3 innings Friday in a 6-1 Colorado victory at Salt River Fields. Chad Bettis, Christian Bergman, Jason Motte, Miguel Castro and Scott Oberg combined to set down the first 22 Indians -- in a lineup that featured at least six Opening Day starters -- before Mike Napoli drew a walk on a full-count pitch. Adam Moore then broke up the no-hitter with a double to deep center field. Bettis set the tone in his first start of Spring Training. In contention to start on Opening Day, the right-hander induced five groundouts and struck out three. Bergman struck out three in his two innings and Motte and Castro were perfect in their one inning apiece. The Indians broke up the shutout on Zack Walters' infield single to score Napoli. But the Rockies already up six runs by that point. "Guys threw the ball really well," manager Walt Weiss said. "We were good off the mound today. Really good. That's a good sign." He added: [Bettis] was in complete control." The Rockies got on the board in the third inning against Indians starter Cody Anderson.Daniel Descalso and Rafael Ynoa led off with back- to-back singles, followed by an RBI groundout from Charlie Blackmon. Colorado added a run in the fourth, when newly signedRyan Raburn singled and Brandon Barnes doubled to deep center field.
