PRESIDENTS MESSAGE: Courtesy Gary Rumrill, e-mail: [email protected] Tel: (502) 239-6366 It’s still winter in Kentucky, the weather is cold and damp and the sun sets way too early for my liking, but, my 2-car garage actually becomes quite comfortable in short order after I start generating some physical effort body heat with washing and wrenching. Quite comfortable? Well 55F isn’t that bad, really, especially when I recall washing my then brand new ’66 MGB in 20F weather with soap bubbles freezing into little glasslike spheres! I digress…Spring will be here soon, honest! If you haven’t started prepping your Brit ride for top downmotoring, don’t delay, car season is around the corner and here’s a look ahead… • February 18 BSCC Meeting, Roosters on Shelbyville Rd: If you weren’t at the January meeting, that is a shame, you missed a good one. Roosters let us hookup a laptop to their WiFi and large screen TV with a connection to www.britishsportscarclub.com for Jim Werner’s live regalia presentation and Trevor Jessie’s very informative instructions on navigating our website. Plus, Peter Dakin then used the screen to show us some really fun “Barn Find” TR fun pictures of a car trailer with a tree growing (An anti theft natural device) through the framework blocking opening trailer doors, cut down the 8” diameter tree, open the doors to see trash and most thieves would give up, but underneath the trash a Triumph TR rolled out .Hard to explain till you see the series for photos. Leo added air to the tires for the roll out. We will used the TV monitor hookup at future meetings. • 02. PRESIDENTS MESSAGE: Continued February 19-21 Carl Casper car show: Your BSCC will be represented with six cars and hopefully a lot of our members will also be there to meet and greet the wonderfully curious spectators. Don’t miss is, it will be a lot of fun. • March 12 St. Patrick Day Parade: You have only six weeks to get your car ready! This parade really belongs on your bucket list! I’ve been in it two times and I’ll be turning over my spot to someone has never experienced this adventure. Russell Mills is heading it up – please don’t delay, call him. • March 17 BSCC Meeting, Mango’s Mexican Restaurant: Roosters booked our meeting room for March Madness events and thankfully, Jim Werner found a new place that looks really promising. JANUARY MEETING MINUTES: Courtesy Judy Moore, e-mail: [email protected] Tel: (954) 579-6547 January 21, 2016 At Roosters, Meeting called to order by Gary @ 7 PM. The meeting started off on a somber note, Gary announced the passing of Alice and Charles Curnicks son CJ had passed away the previous Sunday Visitation on Friday and the service at St. Gabriels. Flowers were sent from the club. Judy went over the previous meeting minutes. They were accepted by Cliff and seconded by Peter. GARY: Our Guest was introduced as Joel Thomas, who owns a 1975 MG-B. New Business RUSSELL: Feb 19-21 Carl Casper- 6 cars have been registered and accepted. Last years visitors-> Mar 12 Sat St. Patrick’s Parade, Russell has received the package with applications. The club will be limited to 20 cars. Russell will be buying 40 pins. The same rules apply, no throwing candy must hand it out. No drinking in the parade road Parade Date Parade starts at 3 pm. This years theme "100 Years Irish Rising” BILL: Swap Meet. With 502 closing, we have arrangements with Bruce Domnek of Unique Auto providing the venue. It will be held April 16 off old Bardstown Road. This is the second year and was well attended last year. DALE: Episcopal l Church old folk home May 14. It would be after cars and coffee. Dale to check on spaces. HOWARD: MG rides for the groups.4 in Southern Indiana and one to Blenheim Forest 515 cars have already been registered for the MG show in June. (Now over 600, 1,300+ expected) 03. JANUARY MEETING MINUTES: Continued HOWARD: continued The Blenheim ride was already full. The ride to OBannon Woods did not receive much interest. The MG Club (Mike Galvin from Pittsburgh) is looking for someone to host a ride Tues or Wed on the Bourbon Trail The National Meet dinner is sold out already. We stand to make lots on this event. CLIFF: Treasures Report Balance stands at $4438.65 with more dues still coming in. The St. Pats deposit, Gary's expenses and the BASH deposit will be paid very soon. A big thanks goes out to Peter for helping to collect the dues! IDEAS FO R THE YEAR: Have a club picnic. Joe's Griffy's V8 MG for the BASH raffle this year. We are in need of a game license for the auction, please reach out for use of one. Jim had information on club regalia, Lands End has our logo on file. It is easy to order online and to watch for promotion that offers free shipping and embroidery.     1:18 CMC Jaguar C-Type Review The year was 1935 when the Jaguar brand first leapt out of the factory gates. Founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company by William Lyons and William Walmsley, both were motorcycle enthusiasts and the company manufactured motorcycle sidecars and automobile bodies. Walmsley was rather happy with the company’s modest success and saw little point in taking risks by expanding the firm. He chose to spend more and more time plus company money on making parts for his model railway instead. Lyons bought him out with a public stock offering and became the sole Managing Director in 1935. The company was then renamed to S.S. Cars Limited. After Walmsley had left, the first car to bear the Jaguar name was the SS Jaguar 2.5l Saloon released in September 1935. The 2.5l Saloon was one of the most distinctive and beautiful cars of the pre-war era, with its sleek, low-slung design. It needed a new name to reflect these qualities, one that summed up its feline grace and elegance with such a finely-tuned balance of power and agility. The big cat was chosen, and the SS Jaguar perfectly justified that analogy.     How British Leyland Grew Itself To Death By Geoff Wheatley British Car Network I have always wondered how a British motor company that made trucks and other commercial vehicles, ever got its hands on Jaguar, Triumph, and of course MG. Furthermore, how this successful commercial company managed to lose the goodwill and loyal customers of these popular vehicles. The story starts some fifteen years before British Leyland became part of the domestic vehicle market in the UK, and of course overseas, especially for Jaguar, a top international brand name in the post war years. In the early 1950s the idea of Group Industries was the flavor of the month. Any company worth its salt was ready to join forces with a willing competitor, or several competitors to form a “Commercial Group”. In consequence we had the Textile Groups, International Banking Groups, The British Nylon Group, Shell and BP Group etc. The theory was simple, by forming production groups producing similar products and exchanging both marketing and production techniques, costs would be reduced and sales would increase. The British Government, who had an investment in the British Motor Industry to help the growth of exports to earn needed US Dollars, was very much in favor of the Group Policy being applied to the major production companies in the UK including the Nuffield Organization and Austin Corporation. Smaller companies like Jaguar who were also successful exporters were encouraged to take the same view on production and sales, however they did not jump on the “Group” bandwagon and remained independent for a few more years.

One hundred years ago to the day, the first ‘Bullnose’ Morris Oxford was built by William Morris just a few hundred metres from where the modern MINI plant stands. Language: Materials are in English. Biography: British Motor Corporation was a UK based vehicle manufacturer founded in 1952. Some car models included the Austin, MG, Morris, Riley, and Wolseley. In 1966, BMC merged with Jaguar Cars Limited and Pressed Steel to become British Motor Holdings Limited (BMH). Leyland Motor Corporation was a British vehicle manufacturer founded in 1896 that began by producing lorries, buses, and trolleybuses. They were involved in tank production during WWII, creating the Cromwell Tank. In 1968 British Motor Holdings and Leyland Motor Corporation merged to become British Leyland after being nationalized. British Leyland faced financial difficulties in 1974 and the main surviving organizations are Mini and Jaguar Land Rover.
