  • 2796 This Is About Air Quality and Potential Related Health Hazards
Submission ID: 2796 This is about air quality and potential related health hazards from increased traffic flow and standing vehicles at proposed Yoxford roundabout (A12/A1120/B1122 junction). People in Yoxford Survey 2017 expressed most concern about traffic in the village. The proposed roundabout will result in standing idling vehicles from the North, South and West with increased flow from N at Darsham P&R ( buses, workers' cars adding to daily load), returning traffic from site along B1122 and the arriving N bound load from Saxmundham and Wickham Market P&R being joined by stacking traffic along A1120 in Yoxford village waiting to turn N andS onto A12. 12-15 years of 700 HGV and 400 LGV movements will cause increased particulate matter from idling vehicles waiting at these junctions. The 2011 Suffolk CC report and the 2017 Suffolk Council reports both mention high rates of PM at queuing for the petrol station at Stratford St Andrew. This measured phenomenon will be apparent in increased severity and concentration at Yoxford if the roundabout is constructed. introducing this health hazard to the residents - some elderly, some children en route to school, will result over the years of the proposed construction in diminished lung health ( asthma, COPD) and brain and heart function. You will no doubt have read of the first recorded death from pollution being that of 9 year old Ella Kissidebra in London last year.. This is a canary in a coal mine moment fore us here. Introducing a 15 year long deliberate increase in PM without an EIA from the proposer of this build would seem to be a cruel and damaging step not only to us in Yoxford but also to people in the East Suffolk area.

  • Records Relating to the 1939 – 1945 War
Records Relating to the 1939 – 1945 War This is a list of resources in the three branches of the Record Office which relate exclusively to the 1939-1945 War and which were created because of the War. However, virtually every type of organisation was affected in some way by the War so it could also be worthwhile looking at the minute books and correspondence files of local councils, churches, societies and organisations, and also school logbooks. The list is in three sections: Pages 1-10: references in all the archive collections except for the Suffolk Regiment archive. They are arranged by theme, moving broadly from the beginning of the War to its end. Pages 10-12: printed books in the Local Studies collections. Pages 12-21: references in the Suffolk Regiment archive (held in the Bury St Edmunds branch). These are mainly arranged by Battalion. • 14 Rolling Estate Claylands EP/Edit1/02.08.10
14 Rolling Estate Claylands EP/Edit1/02.08.10 Rolling Estate Claylands Key Characteristics • Rolling valley-side landscape • Medium clay and loamy soils • Organic pattern of fields • Occasional areas of more rational planned fields • Numerous landscape parks • Substantial villages • Fragmented woodland cover, both ancient and plantation • Winding hedged and occasionally sunken lanes Location This landscape character type occurs in east Suffolk as linear bands in the middle reaches of the valleys of these rivers: • The Yox from Sibton eastward to Theberton • The Fromus around Kelsale and Carlton • The Alde around the Glemhams • The Ore from Parham eastward to Blaxhall • The Deben from Brandeston south-eastwards to Easton and Glevering Geology, landform and soils This landscape, on the eastern edge of the central Suffolk clay plateau, consists of gently sloping valley sides and plateau fringes. Its soils range from occasionally waterlogged clays to sandy loams overlying glacial till and other glacial outwash materials. In most cases the valley heads have the heaviest soils, becoming lighter and occasionally gravely in the lower reaches. Landholding and enclosure pattern The field patterns are slightly organic in appearance, but with a tendency to a co-axial arrangement with the principal axes at right angles to the rivers. In the lower reaches there can be more planned-looking landscapes resulting from late enclosure or estate-inspired reorganisation. The soils are generally well-drained, so greens are infrequent, but there are examples at Middleton Moor and the former Carlton Green and Curlew Green in Kelsale. Landscape Suffolk Landscape Character Assessment 14 Rolling Estate Claylands EP/Edit1/02.08.10 parks, are, however, numerous: Sibton Park, Cockfield Hall in Yoxford, Rookery Park in Yoxford, Theberton Hall and Theberton House, Darsham House, Carlton Park, Glemham House, Marlesford Hall, Brandeston Hall, Easton Park (part) and Glevering House and Glevering Park (part) in Hacheston.

  • Foxboro Cottage
FOXBORO COTTAGE Built at the end of the Napoleonic Wars out of materials from the former barracks on the Woodbridge Road in Ipswich, Foxboro Cottage has a varied and interesting past.1 In its 200 year history it has seen many changes the best known of which is undoubtedly its use as a school which ran from around 1866 until its closure some ten years later. There had been other schools before it and, leaving aside the church Sunday school which began in 1816 and continued - perhaps with occasional breaks - until recent times, weekday education in Playford is first recorded in 1833.2 The Dame School by Ipswich artist Frederick George Cotman, 1887 courtesy Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service: Ipswich Borough Council Collection Little is known about this early school except that it was run by ‘an old woman’ as in Cotman’s painting above and attended by 12-14 pupils.3 A small Dame School is mentioned in 1842 while in 1851 and 1861 a young school mistress is found living with her husband at The Brook where the school would have been held in their front room.4 The move to Foxboro Cottage came about only a few years later following a change of teacher, the replacement being a single woman residing at home with elderly parents and a disabled sister. Unable to provide accommodation for the children, a new premises was found in the left hand half of Foxboro and, for the first time, the village had a 1 SROI, EG94/B1/2, letter from Sir George Biddell Airy to his cousin Manfred Biddell of Lux Farm, 1882, copied into thePlayford Parish Council Minute Book, 1948-1971.
