But these artists do have a responsibility to the public no matter how mindless their music is. One of my friends informed me that the creator of that catchy “Ice Ice Baby” song. Vanilla Ice, was from some suburb of Dallas, not the streets of Miami. Now what’s the point of creating a fake background when the truth is going to be known after only the first single. At least Milli Vanilli got through numerous hits and a big tour before their identity was released. Well, everyone lies about something these days. But what I just don’t understand is the sampling in most of the new rap songs. If someone borrows someone else’s music, it should be credited to the original artist. And even though I ’m completely sick of seeing MC Hammer every time I turn on the TV, at least he gives credit and money to the artists that he is borrowing from. I saw Vanilla Ice blatantly deny in a MTV interview that the baseline in “Ice Ice Baby” was different from “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie because of a little “ching” that is added to his song. He said the same thing about "Play that Funky Music.” Funky Music even has many of the same words as the I970’s counterpart. I heard that Queen is now being credited, but why weren’t they originally?
