RESPONSIBLE TO: The Operations Manager

SALARY: ​Annual: £30,000-35,000pa depending on experience + pension

(paid pro rata: £6,000-7,000/day/pa)

WORK PATTERN: ​1dpw flexible part-time role

HOURS​: 7hpw

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Supporting the Operations Manager with day-to-day finances of the PCC of St Edmund the King, St Mary Woolnoth and St Clement Eastcheap.

Job Summary

The Bishop of Islington, one of the suffragan bishops of the London Diocese, supports the London Diocesan goal of creating 100 New Worshipping Communities and is available to the National Church to support church planting. His dynamic and creative team, based at St Edmund the King in London, provides a range of support to identify, develop and plant new worshipping communities as well as encourage church growth. Bishop Ric is Priest-in-Charge (Bishop-in-Residence) of St Edmund the King, St Mary Woolnoth and St Clement Eastcheap and the Finance Officer would, together with the Operations Manager, primarily support the PCC of these historic city centre churches with the finance linked to the buildings and the Bishop’s ministry at the Centre.

We are looking for someone with extensive experience, familiarity with relevant accounting standards and some exposure to accounting for investments. You should have the ability to work successfully as part of a small busy team and the communication skills to liaise well with all team members including senior budget holders, and suppliers. You should also be reliable and organised with the ability to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Principal Duties of the role

The Finance Officer would work in close proximity with the Operations Manager in order to ensure that economically viable and safe decisions are made and to keep finances in order for the PCC of St Edmund and St Mary Woolnoth and assist with some aspects of the Centre for Church Multiplication finance needs.

● Process invoices, matching to appropriate purchase order and other documentation and distributing for authorisation using Xero and relating to the London Diocese Finance team. ● manage standing orders and direct debits ● count and deposit donated cash ● make claims (Gift Aid and tax) ● track expenditure and reconcile accounts ● manage project budgets ● Maintain the Fixed Asset register ensuring that the capitalisation costs and depreciation rates are correct. Update and prepare journals as required. ● Administer asset liquidation requests on behalf of the PCC. ● Take responsibility for updating the investment schedules from investment reports. ● evaluate total revenue, profits, losses, and financial position and produce quarterly reports ● calculate and compare costs for required goods or services to achieve maximum value for money ● calculate, record, and balance financial reports ● support the budget setting and reporting process for the year ● support the Operations Manager and the Bishop of Islington with preparing grant requests and proposals ● The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that are commensurate with the role.

Person Specification

This role would suit a friendly and flexible completer/finisher who is able to plan, prioritise and execute their work to a high standard and meet deadlines under changing conditions independently as well as part of a team.

Experience, knowledge, training and qualifications

● Extensive purchase ledger experience in a busy finance team / accounting function; ● Experience of reconciliations and familiarity with the relevant accounting standards; ● Experience using Xero and setting up annual budgets using the this on-line tool. ● Exposure to investments, including accounting for transactions for an investment portfolio; ● Proven experience of working effectively with non-finance staff and contributing to wider organisational aims outside of the traditional finance remit; ● Experience of working in the charity sector;

● Ability to keep information confidential, complying with departmental and GDPR policies and procedures.

Terms of Employment

Location​: St Edmund the King church, in the City (2mins walk from Bank station) with some scope for working from home.

Employer​: The PCC of St Edmund the King, St Mary Woolnoth and St Clement Eastcheap

Hours:​ 7 hours a week. Flexibility around working days, although a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday would be preferable, 9.00am to 5.00pm, with one hour for lunch (or split over 2 days).

Salary​: £6-7,000 for 1 DPW (Annual FTE £30,000-35,000PA depending on experience, paid pro-rata)

Pension​: The successful candidate will be enrolled in a pension scheme

Probationary period​: 3 months.

Holiday​: 20DPY + Bank Holidays (allocated pro-rata)

Contract:​ This post is offered on an initial 2 year fixed term contract, subject to ongoing funding.
