A lovable man dedicated to quality showmanship based on judging standards. He cared. iv. PREFACE Minnesotans have developed a passion for horticulture. They are demanding the newest varieties for their yards, gardens, and patios. They grow fine specimens for shows and fairs. They are gaining greater skill in making fascinating designs out of plant material. This book is intended to help Minnesota horticulturalists do even better. The title suggests that it is designed for exhibitors and judges. An exhibitor can be anyone from a beginning gardener to a condominium patio grower, from a house plant enthusiast to a semi-professional designer. Judges include those who are listed with the Minnesota Horticultural Society, students working on their certification, people accredited by other societies, and men and women who are thinking about the possibility of becoming a judge. Exhibiting and Judging Handbook is a revision of The Flower Show published by the Minnesota State Horticultural Society in 1974, and is meant to be a helpful resource. It includes the latest scales of points from specialty plant societies and the most up-to-date information on how judging is done by the M.S.H. judges. It is not intended to be a mandatory set of rules but a guideline to procedures, standards, and scoring commonly used in horticultural shows by the Minnesota State Horticultural Society. It is commended to you with a desire for excellence in growing, showing and judging. v. THE MAIN AIM FOR THE GARDEN IS TO PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY “ THROUGH EXERVISE AND FOOD GROWING, AS WELL AS TO ENSURE H A R L E S D E N 0TOWN GARDEN CLUB HOUSE1 THAT BIODIVERSITY FLOURISHES IN THIS URBAN ENVIRONMENT. Historic records show that garden nursery buildings dominated the site from around 1896-1935. These were then demolished to make way for the 32 do- mestic garages that were removed in 1980 to allow for an open space and play- ground. Unfortunately, in later years the park became a magnet for antisocial be- haviour and no longer was a welcoming space for the community…. until 2013, when a community consultation on how to improve the area - part funded by Catalyst housing association - was carried out by local homeless charity Lift. As a result of this consultation, the Friends of Harlesden Town Garden (FHTG) was formed – In partnership with Lift (Now Crisis Brent) and Brent Coun- cil - in order to help coordinate the park and to reintroduce a community as- set that offers something for everyone to enjoy: a play area for children, green lawn and wild flower area, multi-use games area and raised bed allotments. + Harlesden Town Garden is now well established and it will grow into a green sanctuary at the heart of the Harlesden. To extend the impact of the Gar- den onto the local community it is necessary to establish a base for group meeting, gardening workshops, community events and other gatherings.

This article is an open access publication Abstract Many melittophilous flowers display yellow and Dichogamous and diclinous species display pollen- and UV-absorbing floral guides that resemble the most com- stamen-imitating structures more often than non-dichoga- mon colour of pollen and anthers. The yellow coloured mous and non-diclinous species, respectively. The visual anthers and pollen and the similarly coloured flower guides similarity between the androecium and other floral organs are described as key features of a pollen and stamen is attributed to mimicry, i.e. deception caused by the flower mimicry system. In this study, we investigated the entire visitor’s inability to discriminate between model and angiosperm flora of the Alps with regard to visually dis- mimic, sensory exploitation, and signal standardisation played pollen and floral guides. All species were checked among floral morphs, flowering phases, and co-flowering for the presence of pollen- and stamen-imitating structures species. We critically discuss deviant pollen and stamen using colour photographs. Most flowering plants of the mimicry concepts and evaluate the frequent evolution of Alps display yellow pollen and at least 28% of the species pollen-imitating structures in view of the conflicting use of display pollen- or stamen-imitating structures. The most pollen for pollination in flowering plants and provision of frequent types of pollen and stamen imitations were pollen for offspring in bees.
