Denominaciones de Origen en España (D.O.) Clasificación de los vinos españoles Cada D.O. tiene un Consejo regulador que se encarga de aplicar los reglamentos y normas de calidad de esa Denominación de Origen, y vigilar su cumplimiento, además de defender sus intereses económicos y sociales. También es el encargado de la calificación de la calidad de cada cosecha. En función del grado de protección que tienen los vinos y por consiguiente la normativa y control que deben cumplir, hay varias clases de vinos. Vamos brevemente a citar sus características de menor a mayor exigencia. Vino de mesa Los vinos de mesa están en el escalón más bajo en cuanto a protección y exigencia, no pertenecen a ninguna D.O. y no están obligados a especificar procedencia, añada o variedades. Vinos de la Tierra (V.T.) Los Vinos de la Tierra pertenecen a regiones determinadas, que con unas características medioambientales o de cultivo que confieren a estos vinos cierto carácter. Siguen una normativa menos exigente que los vinos con D.O. Vinos de Calidad con Indicación Geográfica (V.C.) Son vinos producidos y elaborados en una región o localidad determinada, las uvas deben tener la misma procedencia y su producción, la elaboración del vino o su envejecimiento se deben a dicho lugar o a sus gentes, cuenta con 6 zonas acogidas a esta calificación. Denominación de Origen (D.O.) Actualmente además de las célebres Rioja y Ribera del Duero existen muchas más Denominaciones de Origen repartidas por la geografía española, en concreto 69. Las más antiguas datan de 1933 (Jerez, Manzanilla, Montilla-Moriles, Rioja, etc…) aunque no fueron reconocidas legalmente hasta años más tarde. Si una zona de producción quiere acceder a una D.O. deberá haber sido reconocida al menos cinco años antes como región de producción de Vinos de Calidad, los vinos tienen que ser elaborados en la región de la D.O. con uvas procedentes de esa zona geográfica, deben tener unas características especiales que solo se puedan conseguir gracias al medio geográfico en el que se han elaborado., y deben gozar de elevado prestigio por su origen en el mercado. Hay 67 denominaciones de Origen actualmente. Denominación de Origen Calificada (D.O.Ca.) De todas las D.O. que hay en España, sólo Dos son Denominaciones de Origen Calificadas: Rioja y Priorato. Estas D.O.Ca. deben cumplir una normativa más estricta y un control más exhaustivo que las anteriores y su nivel de protección es mayor. Los vinos tienen que pasar por un sistema de control desde su producción hasta su comercialización, todo el vino que se produzca debe venderse embotellado, tienen que haber pasado por lo menos diez años desde su reconocimiento como vinos con D.O. y ha de existir una delimitación cartográfica, por municipios, de los terrenos aptos para poder elaborar los vinos con derecho a la D.O.Ca. Vinos de Pago (V.P.) Anteriormente se podía incluir la palabra PAGO dentro de la marca comercial de algunos vinos. A partir del reconocimiento de los vinos de pago como D.O. en el año 2003, se prohibió ese uso, no permitiéndose su inclusión dentro de la marca. Un pago es un paraje o zona rural con unas características, climatológicas y/o con una composición del suelo, que son diferentes a las del entorno en que se encuentran. Un Vino de Pago es el que se elabora en fincas que se encuentran en estas zonas, identificadas por ese nombre y que lleve usándose por lo menos 5 años, de extensión y producción limitadas en función de la Comunidad Autónoma en que se encuentren. Si un pago se encuentra en su totalidad dentro del área geográfica de una D.O. y además cumple su correspondiente normativa, lo podremos llamar Vino de Pago Calificado, actualmente hay 14 bodegas acogidas a el epígrafe de vino de Pago, la mayoría se encuentran en la comunidad de Castilla La Mancha Vinos ecológicos Los vinos ecológicos pueden pertenecer a algunas de las clases de vinos descritas anteriormente, excluyendo los vinos de mesa, y además de cumplir las normativas de su D.O., deben cumplir también las normas de agricultura y elaboración ecológicas, reguladas por el reglamento europeo. No hay diferencias entre los vinos ecológicos o biodinámicos y los que están elaborados de cultivos tradicionales en lo que respecta a las características sensoriales. La diferencia reside en la forma de obtención y cuidado de las uvas y su elaboración posterior. Para que un vino le permitan utilizar la etiqueta de ecológico, el viñedo debe haber obtenido la certificación ecológica; esta restringe el uso de tratamientos de síntesis química, los abonos deben ser orgánicos naturales tanto de origen vegetal como estiércol de animales, están prohibidos los abonos minerales y la quema de los residuos. La elaboración y embotellado del vino se debe realizar también sin tratamientos como el sulfuroso, la fermentación debe usar levaduras existentes de forma natural o con levaduras autóctonas seleccionadas, la filtración debe ser a través de celulosa o tierra de infusorios que no dejen olor ni sabor, clarificación con clara de huevo, gelatina o cola de pescado que no ceda ninguna sustancia. Como vemos un vino puede proceder de agricultura ecológica y no ser vino ecológico por los tratamientos durante su elaboración o embotellado. Los vinos biodinámicos son los que se elaboran teniendo en cuenta la influencia de los planetas, siguiendo el calendario lunar para algunas labores agrícolas y proponiendo la armonía entre el mundo animal, vegetal y mineral, utilizando cuernos de vaca enterrados con estiércol para aportar nutrientes al suelo, o bien compost. Rechaza el uso de sulfuroso. Estas teorías fueron expuestas por Rudolf Steiner en 1920.     ROBERT PARKER’S THE WINE ADVOCATE Reviews by Luis Gutierrez (Issue #217) “The Bobal reds produced by Bodegas Mustiguillo in the Requena area in Valencia are some of the best wines produced in any of the single-vineyards appellation, Denominaciones de Pago, in their case called Pago Finca El Terrerazo.” MESTIZAJE TINTO 2013 { DOP El Terrerazo } “All the reds from this producer are part of their own single-vineyard appellation, El Terrerazo. The 2013 91 Mestizaje a blend of 78% Bobal and the rest Garnacha, Syrah, Tempranillo and Merlot fermented with the indigenous yeast they have selected from their oldest vineyards and aged separately until after malolactic at which time they are blended and aged in used French barrels. There is no Finca Terrerazo in 2013 because hail damage, so part of the grapes that would normally go into Finca Terrerazo are in this wine; so this is a kind of super-Mestizaje. There is superb integration of the oak here and a very aromatic profile on the nose full of flowers and red berries with hints of aromatic herbs. The pleasant palate is medium-bodied, supple, has very fine tannins, good freshness and is easy to drink. This is the first vintage that this wine is labeled and sold as Vino de Pago. Great value, possibly the best Mestizaje so far.” FINCA CALVESTRA 2013 { Vino de España } “I tasted two vintages of the pure Merseguera Finca Calvestra. The 2013 Finca Calvestra has a few interesting 91 and unusual facts to share starting with the white local variety it is made from, Merseguera.

    COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES Brussels, 24.6.2003 COM (2003) 377 final 2003/0140 (ACC) Proposal for a COUNCIL DECISION on the conclusion of an agreement between the European Community and Canada on trade in wines and spirit drinks (presented by the Commission) EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM 1. This agreement between Canada and the European Community is the result of bilateral negotiations which took place from 7 November 2001 to 24 April 2003 on the basis of a negotiating mandate adopted by the Council on 1 August 2001 (Doc. 11170/01). The agreement comprises arrangements for the reciprocal trade in wines and spirit drinks with a view to creating favourable conditions for its harmonious development. 2. The agreement specifies oenological practices which may be used by producers of wine exported to the other Party, as well as a procedure for accepting new oenological practices. The Community's simplified system of certification will be applied to imported wines originating in Canada. Canada will not introduce import certification for Community wines and will simplify the extent of such testing requirements as are currently applied by provinces, within a year of entry into force. Production standards are agreed for wine made from grapes frozen on the vine. Concerning production standards for spirit drinks, the agreement provides that Canada will adhere to Community standards for its exports of whisky to the Community. 3. Procedures whereby geographical indications relating to wines and spirit drinks of either Party may be protected in the territory of the other Party are agreed. The current "generic" status in Canada of 21 wine names will be ended by the following dates: 31 December 2013 for Chablis, Champagne, Port and Porto, and Sherry; 31 December 2008 for Bourgogne and Burgundy, Rhin and Rhine, and Sauterne and Sauternes; the date of entry into force of the agreement for Bordeaux, Chianti, Claret, Madeira, Malaga, Marsala, Medoc and Médoc, and Mosel and Moselle.

Because of that, the Lleida Chamber of Commerce and the Catalonia Government wish invite you to the XIV International Wine Business Meetings. The International Wine Business Meetings is an event organized by the Lleida Chamber of Commerce that in 2020 reaches the XIV edition. Until now, more than 275 wineries from over all the Spanish regions took part in the event, with an average participation of 25 wineries from more than 20 origin denominations (DO). Additionally, more than 165 importers from countries like United States, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam took part of the event in last editions. In past editions, we use to design a program of business meetings, tastings, and private meetings to cellars. However, the current situation with SARS-CoV-2 has induced us to celebrate the event in a virtual format. More specifically, it will consist of receiving samples of wines from wineries of your interest and having online interviews and tastings with them.
