[RO] West Meets East: ENESCU GEORGE ENESCU YEHUDI MENUHIN RAVI SHANKAR WEST meets EAST 50 de ani La ediția din 1966 a Festivalului Bath, din Marea Britanie, sitaristul Ravi Shankar și violonistul Yehudi Menuhin au interpretat împreună o compoziție de muzică clasică indiană. Spectacolul a fost primul de acest fel. Niciun muzician occidental nu mai cântase vreodată muzică indiană pe scenă și evenimentul a marcat începutul unei noi ere de colaborări muzicale între muzicieni indieni și occidentali. La 50 de ani de la lansarea legendarului album "West meets East", suntem entuziasmați să-i readucem la viață muzica, invitând pe scenă artiști tineri și talentați din India și România. Proiectul este un omagiu oferit lui George Enescu, Yehudi Menuhin și Ravi Shankar, precum și un mod simbolic de a contribui la viziunea lor artistică. Turneu 2017 West meets East: Enescu. Menuhin. Shankar este un turneu de promovare a dialogului intercultural prin intermediul muzicii interpretate de artiști de renume din România și India. Scopul este aducerea în prezent a colaborării de succes internațional din anii '60, avându-i ca protagoniști pe Yehudi Menuhin, studentul lui George Enescu, și Ravi Shankar. Turneul va avea loc în perioada 14- 23 octombrie, în patru orașe din țară: TIMIȘOARA Concertele vor include compoziții de pe albumele "West meet East", precum și compoziții noi, ce vor CLUJ-NAPOCA fi create de artiștii implicați în proiect, în frunte cu Alexandru Tomescu. Muzica clasică indiană va fi PITEȘTI interpretată la sitar și tabla de Rohan Dasgupta și Udhai Mazumdar, elev al lui Ravi Shankar. BUCUREȘTI Alexandru Tomescu Rohan Dasgupta Udhai alături de maestrul său, Ravi Shankar Udhai Mazumdar West meets East Lansat în 1967, WEST meets EAST a fost numărul 1 în Billboard's Best Selling Classical LP's pentru mai mult de patru luni. În iulie 1968, EMI (Angel Records) a anunțat că West Meets East a fost LP-ul cu cele mai bune vânzări din istoria casei de discuri. În februarie 1968, albumul a câștigat Premiul Grammy pentru cea mai bună muzică de cameră. A fost prima dată când un muzician din Asia a primit premiul Grammy. În ceea ce privește construcția melodică și ritmică, muzica indiană reprezintă, fără îndoială, cea mai complexă și mai elaborată organizare a oricărei posibile succesiuni de note și subdiviziuni și multiplicări ale secvenței ritmice. ENESCU puntea de legătură dintre Est și Vest Primele întâlniri ale lui Menuhin cu Orientul s-au petrecut în adolescență. Profesorul său, compozitorul George Enescu, l-a dus pe tânărul Menuhin la expoziția Colonială din Paris în 1931 pentru a asculta muzica tradițională din Bali, care îl interesa profund pe Enescu. India a apărut pentru prima oară pe orizontul lui Menuhin două decenii mai târziu. The young Shankar (nicknamed "Robu") was therefore raised by his mother in some poverty. His eldest brother, the legendary dancer Uday Shankar, was already in Europe, dancing with Anna Pavolva before establishing his own Indian dance troupe.

His compositions, most of which include distinct Thai musical elements and Thai cultural influences within the guise of Western art music, are emblematic of a trend in contemporary composition that embraces worldwide influences. This thesis is a first step toward the literature of this compositional trend of Thai/Western musical fusion. It begins with a survey to different approaches of applying exotic elements into Western compositions, focusing on the fusion of Western and Far Eastern musical/non-musical elements of China and Indonesia. The focus then shifts to the cross-cultural interplay between Thai and Western elements that has appeared throughout Thai music history. The main topic of thesis ensues, with the presentation of Prangcharoen’s musical background, his creative process, and his synthesis of Thai influences and Western compositional techniques in his orchestral music. The purpose of this thesis is to be not only a principal source in iii apprehending Prangcharoen’s life and works, but also a foundation for any future study relating to Prangcharoen or other Thai composers and their compositions.

    RAVISHANKAR Pandit Shyam Shankar, Ravi Shankar's father, was a Bengali Brahmin of many talents. As a youth in Benares, he had studied Sanskrit and philosophy and learned to sing in a classical style; he could chant the ancient Hindu hymns, or vedas, and was also fluent in English-India having long ago been subsumed within the Brit­ ish Empire. He was a lawyer by training. For several years he was employed as diwan, or chief minister, at the court of the Maharaja of Jhalawar in southern Rajasthan, one of the many semiautono­ mous princely states within the British-Indian Raj. This position afforded him the opportunity to travel frequently to London (where, among other things, he purchased books for the royal library) and to expose his growing family to the good life and fine arts of the maharaja's palace. Born on 17 April 1920, Ravindra Shankar was the fifth and young­ est son of Shyam and his wife Hemangini Devi, who descended from a Bengali zamindari family. Ravi Shankar was twenty years younger than his oldest brother, Uday. By the time Ravi was born, Shyam Shankar had resigned his post in Jhalawar and left India for Lon - don, where he embarked upon a new life with an English wife. He practiced law and eventually became an amateur impresario, intro­ ducing Indian dance and music to Britain. Uday Shankar joined him there and studied painting at the Royal College of Art. But the rest of the family stayed behind, living in a rented house in Benares and making ends meet by drawing on the father's pension from the maharaja.

The quest for spirituality is one of the key reasons for cultural fusion. Aided by technological development, cultural fusion takes place throughout the world and such a cultural fusion is evident in music as well, particularly in the songs of the Beatles, the highly popular music band of the 1960’s. Beatles were greatly inspired by the Oriental music in both its form and content, in physical and spiritual aspects and that is why oriental element ranging from Taoist philosophy to Hindu Vedic and Puranic traditions are noticeable in the lyrics of the Beatles. The form of the Beatle’s music is more Indian than Chinese.
