May 17th is IDAHO Day, the international day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. It was on May 17th 1990 that the World Health Organisation decided that being gay was not a sign of mental illness. Each May 17th people across the world commemorate the date and this year the City Council got together with oth- ers, such as Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, Nottinghamshire Pride and more to put on several events, including this banner in the Market Square and a rainbow flag (yes, it is there) on the Council House.

That’s a request which Notts LGBT+ Network gets quite frequently. The reply is “our centre is a room 6 foot by 7 foot”.

We get asked to attend lots of daytime meetings and to provide placements for students. We get asked to host events at our “centre” or make chari- table donations to various causes. We get sug- gestions that our staff might welcome modernised catering facilities or that we might wish to change our electricity and gas suppliers.
