Coming Queensborough out of the discussion was a fresh new approach that met with a New Westminster great deal of enthusiasm: a pot luck dinner with greatly simpli- fied awards program. As we have not been getting the big numbers attending in the past few years, we will be using the smaller upstairs room to create a more friendly and casual atmosphere. The Christmas Pot Luck Dinner will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, our normal meeting date, at Roma Hall. The celebration will begin at 6:30 with a “happy hour” and cash bar. Each member is encouraged to bring their favourite pot luck dish. Options include: hors’dourves (for the happy hour) salad main dish vegetable Time: desert Happy Hour 6:30 PM We can either coordinate dishes or leave it up to chance! Paper plates and plastic knives, forks, and spoons will be Dinner at 7:00 PM provided to keep the cleanup to a minimum. Bring: Your Favourite Pot Luck We may have a 50/50 draw with door prizes and a karaoke Dish sing along, or maybe play games?     The Jensen Interceptor: Chrysler- Powered British Luxury Allan and Richard Jensen's auto business was started before World War II, which interrupted production until 1950, when their first Interceptor was made. At the time, they made Austin bodies under contract, and the first Interceptor resembled an Austin A40 (the Jensens built bodies for a string of cars that included the Volvo P1800, Sunbeam Tiger, and Austin-Healey.) The first Interceptor used a 4 liter Austin in-line six, and was produced in small numbers for over a decade. Jensen also used Nash Twin-Ignition Eight engines for a time, and the 1962 C-V8 used a Chrysler 361 B-block engine. A number of these early Jensens made their way to the US before and after World War II. The next version kept the basic C-V8 chassis, but changed styling. Initially, an in-house convertible design was planned, but chief engineer Kevin Beattie argued for an Italian flavor. Proposals were taken from different design houses, with Carozzeria Touring winning out with a fastback coupe incorporating a rounded tail, but that house was unable to finalize the design. Vignale, instead, provided prototype and initial production bodies, rendered in steel, on CV-8 chassis sent to them by Jensen. Turnaround was quick - about four months - so the new Interceptors could be shown in London in October 1966. Jensen later used the jigs and tools, which were sent by Vignale to the West Bromwich factory. The body had two doors, a low beltline, and fishbowl rear glass in a handsome 2+2 design.

    Used Car Buying Guide: Jensen Interceptor Grand Tourer Introduced 1966 Models Coupe, convertible Price band £4000-£30,000 For: Effortless V8 power. Room for four. FF model has four-wheel drive and ABS. Stunning '60s looks. Against: Rust. Fuel bills. Restoration costs astronomical. The Interceptor is a brilliant combination of massive American V8 power and sharp Italian styling, incorporating a glass hatchback. In its day, the Interceptor cost more than the equivalent Aston Martin and was twice the price of a Jaguar E-Type. For their money, buyers got a very luxurious, fast car - and, if they'd ordered the FF, a technical tour de force, as this model had four-wheel drive and ABS brakes. That level of complexity means that a Jensen in need of repair can be a financial liability, which is worth remembering if you're considering buying one. Fuel consumption is alarmingly high, but not surprising considering the size of the engine, which comes in 6.3- and 7.2-litre capacities. Expect an average of 12-13 mpg. The Interceptor isn't for everyone - some consider it a bit flash - but if you want to make a big impression in something rare and beautiful, there is no better classic. Interceptor 1966-91 1966 Jensen's previous C-V8 model rebodied by Italian coachbuilder Vignale, which builds the first 50 examples. Powered by a 6.3-litre Chrysler V8 engine. Up until 1969, 1024 are built. 1967-71 FF model has a longer wheelbase, four-wheel drive, anti-lock brakes, brushed-metal roof, bonnet bulge and dual side vents: 320 built.

There’s details of a quite different rebuild of an Interceptor (“Restomod”), which gave me much food for thought. I know that – especially for Concours – keeping the car as original as possible is essential for some owners. But not so for others, who are happy to upgrade and modify their cars so that they can still be used and driven in the same manner as a modern car. As time passes by, it would appear that more cars are being rebuilt now with sensible upgrades rather than keeping them strictly original. In the same manner, it would appear that a growing proportion of Jensens do like to be driven – JOC members at the start of the “Rest members are more interested in driving their cars than showing them and be thankful” hill climb in 2015 - which I personally think is excellent news.   • Jensen Interceptor
    Jensen Interceptor SAN FRANCISCO: The second series, Italian bodied, Jensen Interceptor was introduced in late 1966 at the London Motor Show. While Jensen's primary business has been pressing body panels and building bodies for a number of mainstream manufacturers, the British firm had also regularly produced its own line of handsome, sporting tourers. Prior to WWII, Jensen’s were built on both American Ford and Nash chassis. After the war the firm introduced the first series Interceptor, a six cylinder, four place, aluminum-bodied car built with the latest Austin of England mechanicals. By 1966, Jensen had replaced the Austin six with an American Chrysler V8 and had shrunk the car to fit an unusual fastback coupe called the CV8. The firm was ready to rebody the out-of-date and rather ungainly looking CV8 to make way for a sleek new Interceptor. A CV8 was shipped to Italian coachbuilder Vignale and rebodied as the new Interceptor prototype. It was so well received that the car went directly into production. Series 1 Interceptors (1967 - 1969) were never commercially imported to North America. Most were built with right-hand-drive and, while looking much the same as the later cars, had a number of unique and non-Department of Transportation (DOT) approved pieces and had no US emissions equipment. They continued to retain the old Austin steering and front suspension but were powered by 383 cubes of Chrysler "wedge" engine. A few were even built with 4-speed gearboxes. The Series 2 models, imported from 1970, were built to US spec from the start.

The new company concentrated initially on the design and prq­ duction of special bodies on such popular chassis of the day as 1J:le Ford Eight, Singer, Standard and Wolselcy Hornet; although bodies were also built on Delage, Rolls-Royce and Invicta. The lensen brothers were most impressed by the sort of per­ formance given by American V 8 engines and not surprisingly, therefore, a prototype appeared in 1934 using a Ford 3.8 litre V 8 engine.
