Cultural Programmes held in jails during the year 2018

Andhra Pradesh

 On 26-01-2018 i.e. Republic Day all the prisons of the state celebrated the day in which sports and essay writing competition were conducted and distributed prizes to the participants.  Conducted different cultural activities with the female prison inmates in Women Jails. Conducted Dance and Singing Competitions on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 08-03-2018 in which eminent members of the Community were invited.  On 2nd October all the prisons of the state conducted different cultural programmes like dance programmes, singing competition, debates on different topics and conducted competitions and also skits programmes by the inmates was conducted.  On 15-08-2018 i.e. Independence Day celebration conducted in all the prisons.

Arunachal Pradesh

 Inspirational Songs/musical programme were conducted in the prisons of the state.

, , Puja, Eid, Bhagabat path, Kirton Path, Nam Kirton, X-mas, Bhaona, Evening , Republic day, Independence Day, Assamese songs etc. were celebrated in all the prisons of the state.

 Cultural programme on the occasion of Independence Day & Republic day were organized in year 2018.  Spiritual and Meditational programme were conducted by James institution and during cultural programme blankets were distributed among prisoners.  Music Competition, Singing & Dancing programme by prisoners were organized on eve of Independence Day, Republic day, Holi and Dussehra.  , , dance and drama were held at the occasion of national festivals and other festive time.  One music hall containing one keyboard, one Electronic pad with sound system, one ZOZ set, one Guitar, one Banjo, one Harmonium, one Table with , one Naal, Two Big , one Duffle, Ten Pairs of Jhall, one mouth organ, six jhika, one pair etc. is available to prisoners.  One sound system including Amplifier, four mike, two speakers etc have been provided to the music room. It forms one orchestra group on national festivals like 26 January, 15 August, Holi, Sarasvati Puja, Eid, etc.  One Gym hall containing two Gym machines have been provided to the prisoners.  Spiritual programmes by Shanti Om and Prem Singh Rawat were organized in the prisons.  Regular classes are also arranged for the prisoners. Yoga camp and motivational speech are regularly organized.

 Song, And Dance Programme by Prisoners on Dussehra, Chhat Pooja, Navratri are organized.  Every morning and evening prisoners pray and perform Bhajan and kirtan.

Chhattisgarh NIL

 Cultural programmes were held such as Cultural dance, skits, drama competitions, inter-religious programmes etc.  Celebration of .  Celebration of Mahashivratri.  On several occasions Ghummataarti were held.

 The prisons have a covered stage to conduct cultural programmes and celebrations we have a covered stage set one end of the Ground to conduct cultural programs and celebrations and also for the meditation purposes.  The prison had organised spiritual and religious program at Nadiad Jail on 29/04/2018 with the presence of Iscon Group-vidhyanagar. Start “SahajYog" program by the life international andheri east mumbai from dt.7/01/2018.  Bhajan program, Meditation, Yoga, Music, Dance Party, Spiritual Program, Art of living, Drama etc. are organized in jails on various occasions.  was celebrated by prisoners of Prajapita kumari Aishwarya University in the open jail Amreli.  Flag ceremony and poetic singing program were held on 26th January and 15th August.  Different types of NGOs are regularly invited to prison for Organising Cultural as well as Spiritual programme like Art of living, , etc. for betterment of prisoners.  Special programs during religious festivals like Rakhi, Eid, Holi, Dipawali, etc. were organized.  Mimicry and other stress reduction sessions are also organized.

 An Event was organized to distribute the prize to the winners, runners-up and best performers in the tournament of sports to appreciate and encourage the Sports Lovers.  National Yoga Day on 21/06/18 was celebrated by Brahmakumaris Organization at Nadiad District Jail.  On 22/07/2018, Tree Plantation day with present of Hon'ble Judge of CJM Nadiad and Staff Members of the department was celebrated.  A seminar was organized on "Free from addiction" to celebrate 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by lok niketan gram vidyaphit, ratanpur on 21/09/2019.

 Bible Reading program at Nadiad Jail on 21/12/2018 was organized with the presence of the Philops Pentocrystal Church of God, Mehsana.  Every Sunday a bhajan program was organized by inmates themselves.  16 cultural programmed were done in jail during the year-2018.  National Voter's Day ceremony was celebrated with the officers / employees. `

 Cultural Programmes are organised from time to time. These activities are organised for de-stressing prisoners with the help of voluntary organizations and Non-Governmental organisations.  All festivals and National days i.e. Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated in jails with active participation of prisoners lodged in the jails of Haryana.

Himachal Pradesh

 Cultural programmes are being organised by the District Public Relation office in the jail for the amusement of inmates and jail staff during the year.  Various cultural programmes especially on National days have been organized for the prisoners and they took active participation in such types of programmes. Cultural programmes are organized on the eve of National Festival such as Republic Day and Independence Day. Cultural programme like Bhajan folk song were held in the jail by the inmates themselves on every Sunday as well as on the eve of festivals i.e. , Holi, Janmashtami, Nanak Birthday, Christmas and Buddha Purnima.  Dance and cultural programs organized by DPRO Cultural Programme held on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan by the Brahamkumaris.

 Singing and Dancing competition of inmates held in Jail premises. Cultural programme held on the occasion of Holi by the Rotary Club.

 Spiritual discourses are organized by Hare society, ISKCON, Brahma Kumaris and Gayatri Parivar.  To uplift the feelings of National Integration and patriotism among the inmates DVD's and CD's of patriotic movies are shown on the days of national importance.

Jammu & Kashmir

 Musical Programmes for Jail Inmates performed by Cultural Wing of Information Department at central jail Kot Bhalwal.

 Cultural Programmes held on different occasions i.e. Republic Day, Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan, Eid, Deepawali & Gurupurab etc.

 A Yoga Camp was organised on the occasion of International Yoga Day for the prisoners at District jail Jammu.

Jharkhand

 Cultural Programme are organised by the prisoners on 26th January, 15th August, 2nd October & 15th November in the prisons of the State. Weekly Programme like speeches, plays and songs based on Hygiene environment, nonviolence and truth are also organised in the prisons of the State.

 Singing programme was organised among jail inmates by Kala . Also, Dweep Yaga by Gayatri Pith. Yoga by Vayakti Vikash Kendra & Art of Living was organised in the various prisons of the State.  Rajyoga was organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumari and Inshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Festival's in the prisons of the State.  Advance course of "Prison Smart Programme" was organised by the Art of Living.

Karnataka

 Yoga and Meditation programme by the Bramhakumaris are organised for 27 days (in Different Dates).  Celebration of international yoga-day was held under the guidance of Shree Mahila Mandal,bagalkot. Cultural Programmes are held on 19-11-2018, 10-12-2018.  Cultural programs conducted by Presentation School Children on the occasion of New Year.  Drama show for prisoners was organised on 20.02.2018 in which the Chairperson Deasoza gave Speech regarding peaceful life and lecture about how to lead a good life.  Cultural program was performed by Friends Association, Dharwad on the occasion of Rajyotsava on 01-11-2018.  On the occasion of Shivratri festival a cultural programme was organised i.e. on 13.02.2018.  Music, Drama, Moral Stories, Speech on Social Reformers & Stage Shows (Skits) Drama Programme were held on 26-08-2018 by the prisoners.

 Siddhi yoga from Brahma kumari 3 days course i.e. on 03-03-2018 to 05-03-2018 was organised in the prisons. On 11-08-2018 (Nagar Panchami festival) celebration and reformation programme was organised for inmates by shree basavajaya mrutyunjaya mahaswami by serving for prisoners instead of serving naga temple.  On 22-12-2018 Cultural programs were given by the Prison Ministry of Dharwad on the occasion of Christmas.  Prison Ministry of India celebrated Independence Day on 30.07.2018 in which various cultural programmes and drama was conducted at jail from students of first grade college K R .  Cultural Programme was Held on 02-10-2018 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.

 Prison Ministry of India welfare programme was organised on 15.05.2018 in association with Information and Public Relation Office (Vartha Elakhe) Vijayapur and Central Prison Vijayapur in which a Drama named 'Gandhi- Bapu’ was organised for inmates.  Kannada Culture Department, Dharawad organised a drama show on the celebration of 158th on 13.09.2018  ILMET Team Bangalore (NGO) reformation Programme provides medical camps for prison officers and staff.  Various programmes like Planting tree, musical chair activity, stress management awareness programme was held for Prison staff.

 Prison Ministry of India organised a Cultural Programme by children on the celebration of Christmas.

Kerala

 Jail welfare day celebrations are conducted in each jail as part of cultural programmes. Various programmes are conducted among prisoners during and Christmas festivals. Madhya Pradesh

 Cultural shows like Drama, Dance, Bhajan, Kirtan etc. are organised by inmates on different occasions in various prisons of the State.

Maharashtra

 Total 165 Cultural Programmes were held in prisons during the year 2018.  Musical Programme on Republic Day was organized.  Dance, Music & Entertainment Programme was conducted by NGO Prison Ministry Inspirational & Moral Lecture in which 2825 inmates were participated.  Bhandara District Prison has organized various Cultural Programs such as Raksha Bandhan, Musical Programs, Cultural Speeches for the prisoners, Yoga, Vipshyana, Orchetra, Birth Anniversaries of National Heroes.  Cultural programmes like patriotic songs and bhajan programs are held in jail on the occasion of 26 January and 15 August. Lecture of Moral Educational, Spiritual yoga classes, Entertainment programme, were also organised in the jails.  On the occasion of Hanumaan Jayanti, bhajan and kirtan are performed on every Saturday along with musical instruments.  Prisoners are inspired to participate in the activities like group dance, singing, drama etc.

Manipur NIL Meghalaya

 Christmas Celebration, Republic Day Celebration, Independence Day Celebration, New Year and sports week was celebrated in various prisons of State for the welfare of prisoners. Mizoram

 ChapcharKut (local festival) was observed in the prisons of the State.

Nagaland

 Republic Day, Independence Day and Christmas was celebrated in the prisons of the State.  Annual Sports day was also observed in the prisons.

Odisha

 Independence Day, Republic Day, Makara , Raja Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, Puja, Biswakarma Festival, Dussehra festival, Annual sports, DandaNrutya Yoga, Rathayatra, Christmas, Ganesh Puja, Bhajan and Kirtan programme, Holi and spiritual Program were organised in the prisons for the welfare of the prisoners.

Punjab

 There is a Gurudwara, Mandir and Church in the jail where the inmates go for their daily . The various annual Religious function like Baisakhi, Birthday of Dev Ji, Ji, Janmashtami, Ramanavami, Christmas are celebrated together by all inmates and langer programs are also organised during these days.  Special celebration on Rakhi is organised in deori with prior permission of Head Quarter Jails to Celebrate re-union of Brother and Sister.

 Special Celebration on Baisakhi is held in Central Jail Amritsar.

 Independence Day celebration held by the Jail administration with Jail inmates.

Rajasthan

 Bhajan, Kirtan, Lok Geet , Musical evening by inmates on festivals were organised in the prisons of State.  Kirtan, Antakshree, Lok sangeet, Dance, Satsang by Panth were organised in the prisons for the prisoners.

Sikkim NIL

 National Festival programs like , Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali were organised by the prisoners of the State.  Cultural Programs and Social Awareness programs were conducted by NGOs on 26.01.2018 - Republic Day (Flag Hosting, Speech, Folk Dance, Drama, Dance on National Patriotic Songs)  Women's Day celebration on 08.03.2018 (Speech, Folk Dance, Drama) was organised by the prisoners.

 Every fourth Sunday cultural programs are conducted during the year 2018.

 Republic Day, Independence Day Celebration was conducted in all the Prisons, Sports and Essay Competition were conducted and distributed prizes to the participants.

 Mahatma Gandhi Birthday celebration was conducted in all Prisons and conducted different cultural programmes like dance, singing competition, debates on different topics and conducted skills programmes by the inmates.  International Women’s Day celebrated in Women Jail Hyderabad and conducted cultural programmes by the prisoners.

Tripura

 On the occasions of Durga Puja, Christmas, Id-Ul-fitr, Republic Day, Independence Day cultural programmes were organised as a recreational activity for changing the minds of prisoners.  The cultural programmes were held in Sabroom Sub-Jail on the occasion of Republic Day and Independence Day.

Uttar Pradesh

 On the occasion of 26 January (Republic Day), 15th August (Independence Day), 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti) musical programmes, bhajan, kirtan, talent hunt competition was held by the inmates.  On the occasion of Teachers Day, inmates who are educating illiterate inmates were honoured by Mamta Trust on 05 September 2018.  Many opportunities have been given to prisoners to participate in cultural programmes as singing, dancing, drama etc. on the occasion of 'Republic Day'. Cultural programme (Like Deshbhakti Song, Dance, Mimicry and Poems) was organised in the Jail.  With the help of 'Asha Kiran' NGO, Meerut the students of Sofia Convent School, Meerut and St. John's Senior Secondary School Meerut were also presented cultural programme and 'LAGHU NATAK' on that occasion was organized.  Yoga camp was held twice a year. Moral and Spiritual teaching for the upliftment of physical, mental status of prisoners with the help of Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidhalaya was held in the prisons.  NIL West NOT AVAILABLE A & N Islands

Chandigarh NIL D & N Haveli NIL Daman & Diu NIL

 Recreational activities are carried out extensively in jails to channelize the inmates energy towards positive causes. There is a provision of television set in each barrack. The newspaper, magazines and books are available. There is a provision for sports and cultural activities and inter-jail tournaments are organized.  Various festivals viz Lohri, Id, Holi, Christmas, Independence Day, Republic Day etc. were celebrated in jails and cultural programmes were organized on these occasions.

 Facilities for sports like Badminton, Cricket, Volleyball, Chess, Carrom, Basketball etc. were provided.  Music plays an important role in reforming inmates. A music room has been created in every jail in which instruments like Tabla, Harmonium, Guitar, , , etc. are available for use by the inmates.  World Earth Day was celebrated from 20.4.2018 to 26.04.2018.

 Van Mahotsav was celebrated on 11.07.2018 with the theme "One Tree One Inmate".  In CJ 6 (female jail), inmates have been given education up to Primary level and after that they have been enrolled for 8th class through NIOS. English classes for spoken English are also provided to inmates.  In CJ 16 (female jail), Mehndi Competition, Dandiya Competition, International Yoga Day was organized during 2018. A new Beauty Parlour was started by jail administration.  World Yoga Day: A massive one-month yoga training program was organized with the help of NGO Panchwati Yogashram for preparation of World Yoga Day.

 Frequent cultural Programme by eminent artists and theatre groups.

 Various activities like Yoga, Art of Living, Meditation, Self-Realization, Spiritual Therapy etc. with the help of various NGOs were organized.

 Nelson Mandela International Day, EIG/Diwali/Christmas festivals were celebrated with great enthusiasm.  Kavi Samelen was organized by the jails for the recreation of inmates.

 Celebration of birthday of children of female prisoners on monthly basis. It has been the constant endeavour of prison administration to involve the prisoners in sports activities to keep them occupied in healthy and amusing pursuits. Inter jail tournaments were organized regularly and various sports activities were held in the
