Session 80 Restraint of Vṛttis Part 3 Namaste. Welcome to new session. We have been considering The Restraint of Chitta Vṛttis. Having considered the Chitta Vṛttis; now we are considering — The Restraint of Chitta Vṛttis. The Chitta Vṛtti Nirodha. On our plane, restraint of mind, restraint of mental modulations. Because on waking up, our mind starts functioning and it works absolutely incessantly. Absolutely incessantly until we don’t go for sleep. So, the mind would be working in some form, or the other, incessantly, for those, whatever, 8,10,12, hours or even more. Without respite. Without respite of even a moment. The mind will be always engaged somewhere. The mind will always be having function. It is only when we are fast asleep, in a dreamless sleep the psychological mind gets a rest. And now you should be knowing that even in dreamless sleep the Chitta is not at rest. But the mind is at rest. Psychological mind is at rest when it’s a dreamless sleep for whatever duration of time. But then try to understand; this mind is incessantly working. Like some of our body organs are working incessantly such as the heart, such as the lung. They work life-long. In the physical front of the embodiment; certain organs are incessantly working — the circulatory system, the respiratory system, the metabolic system, the endocrine system. They don’t have breaks. They don’t have respite; they don’t have a rest. Even if you are fast asleep, they continue to work. So we are aware of this fact that on the front of body, in our embodiment, there are incessant activities, absolutely, right from birth to death. -

All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga SRI KRISHNA JANMASTAMI Once, the demon kings troubled the world greatly and the whole world was upset. Bhumi, the Deity of this world, went to Lord Brahma to tell him about all the trouble she had to go through as a result of all the things the demoniac kings were doing. Bhumi took the form of a cow and with tears in her eyes she approached Lord Brahma, hoping for his mercy. Lord Brahma became very sad as well and he decided to go to the ocean of milk where Lord Visnu lives. He went there together with the other demigods, Lord Siva went as well. There Lord Brahma began to speak to Lord Visnu who had saved the earth once before by taking the form of a boar (Lord Varaha). All the other demigods also offered a special prayer to Lord Visnu. This prayer is called the Purusa-Sukta prayer. On different planets there are different oceans. On our planets there are oceans of salt water but on other planets there are oceans of milk, oil or nectar. When the demigods didn’t hear any answer to their prayer, Lord Brahma decided to meditate. He received a very special message from Lord Visnu. He then gave this message to all the demigods. The message was that very soon the Supreme Lord Himself, together with His energy, strength and His eternal associates would appear into this world as the son of Vasudeva in the Yadu dynasty (Royal Family). The message also said that the demigods, along with their wives would take birth immediately in this family in this world so that they could help the Lord with His mission. -

Har Aerobic Kriya p.1 This set should be done very quickly and in a fluid motion, moving from exercise to exercise with no stopping. When done properly it is a great aerobic workout. Repeat the sequence 5 times. 1) Standing with feet comfortably apart, clap your hands over your head 8 times. Each time you clap, chant Har with the tip of your tongue. 2) Bend over from the hips. Slap the ground hard with the hands 8 times. With each pat, chant Har with the tip of your tongue. 3) Stand up straight up with arms out to the sides parallel to the ground. Raise and lower the arms, patting the air, one foot up and one foot below the shoulder height, as you chant Har with the tip of the tongue. 8 times. 4) Still standing, jump and criss-cross the arms and legs chanting Har, both as the arms and legs cross and when they are out at the sides for a total of 8 chants of Har. Wait to Serve - Part 1 Date: 2014-01-14 Author: Kalacakra Krsna das Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis, Please accept our humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev! In Bhagavad Gita Krishna says, devotional service is joyfully performed - susukhaṁ kartum avyayam. When our body and mind are in good condition and when circumstances are all favourable, we find it easy to perform service joyfully. But the real test of our unmotivated bhakti, comes when our body and mind does not co-operate and circumstances are also unfavourable. When we are suffering from some chronic illness or when we have some problem which is just prolonging for years, we get dejected and demotivated. We lose faith in bhakti and lead a remorseful life. The following pastime in Ramayana very nicely teaches us how to handle such situations. When Sugriva sent his army of Vanaras to different directions in search of Sita, Angada and Hanuman were sent to South. After vigorous search for over 6 weeks, they were still not able to find Sita. Angada and few other monkeys thought that they should sit and fast to death. As they sat there roaring in dismay, they suddenly saw an enormous vulture approaching them. Looking at the vulture come near them Angada told Hanuman, "Surely this is Yamaraja come in person to punish us for failing to serve Rama's purpose. This bird reminds me of Jatayu, about whom we have heard from Sugriva. That glorious bird laid down his life for Rama in a fierce battle with Ravana. We shall also now give up our lives in Rama's service. -

This image is very unique. Here, one can see Ramanuja with the gnyAna mudra (the sign of a teacher; see his right/left hands); usually, Swami Ramanuja’s images always present him in the anjali mudra (offering worship, both hands together in obeisance). Our elders say that Swami Ramanuja’s image at Thirumala shows the gnyAna mudra, because it is here that Swami Ramanuja gave his lectures on Vedarta Sangraha, his insightful, profound treatise on the meaning of the Upanishads. It is also said that Swami Ramanuja here is considered an Acharya to Lord Srinivasa Himself, and that is why the hundi is located right in front of swami Ramanuja at the temple (as a mark of respect to an Acharya). In Thirumala, other than Lord Srinivasa, Varaha, Narasimha and A VEDICS JOURNAL Varadaraja, the only other accepted shrine is that of Swami Ramanuja. -
Sugriva's Role in Ramayana
ROLES IN RAMAYANA HANUMAN’S ROLE IN RAMAYANA Hanuman's role in the battle between Rama and Ravana is huge. He is the one who flies cross the oceans (he is Wind's child), locates the exact place where Sita is imprisoned and brings this information back to Rama. While within the demon fort on his quest for Sita, he sets the entire place on fire and warns Ravana about an impending attack unless Sita is returned unharmed. During the Rama-Ravana battle, Hanuman not only kills several demon generals but also brings Rama's brother back to life. How does he do that? Well, it so happens that Rama's brother is mortally wounded by Ravana's son, and the monkey-army-physician opines that the only things that can save the life of the younger prince are four specific herbs that grow on the Himalayan slopes. The catch? The battle is raging on in Lanka, across the southernmost tip of the country while the Himalayas are far up north, and the herbs are needed within the next few hours, before the new day dawns. Hanuman leaps up into the air, flies northwards at lightning speed, and alights atop the Himalayas. This is where things start to become confusing: the monkey- physician had said that medicine herbs glow in their own light and that it should be easy, therefore, to spot them. What Hanuman sees, however, is an entire mountain aglow with herbs of all kinds, each emitting its own peculiar light. Being unable to identify the exact four herbs that the physician had described, Hanuman uproots the entire mountain and carries it back to the battlefield.
