26 October 2015 Budget 2016: The right focus We believe Budget 2016 has the right focus in balancing economic Malaysia Strategy growth and maintaining fiscal discipline. We expect decent GDP expansion in 2016 that we believe would be conducive to earnings growth. We forecast an overall fully-diluted EPS contraction of 2.4% yoy in 2015 before rebounding to 7.4% yoy growth in 2016. KLCI The macro environment 1,710 @ 23 October 2015 For 2015, the federal government still believes that GDP growth between 4.5% and 5.5% is achievable. The current account is expected to remain in NEUTRAL (maintain) the surplus range of 1.5-2.5% of GNI, while inflation is anticipated to be 2- 2.5%. For 2016, GDP growth is expected to moderate to 4-5%, current account surplus at 0.5-1.5%, and inflation at a wider range of 2-3%. 2015 KLCI Target: 1,600 Domestic demand to drive GDP growth We forecast 5% GDP growth in 2015 and 5% in 2016. At first glance, the 4- Narrowing government fiscal deficit 5% range in 2016 looks unexciting. However, closer examination reveals that the government is expecting resilient domestic demand but with a bigger drag from the external environment. It sees domestic demand rising 5.9% this year and 5.5% in 2016 versus our 6% and 5.8% forecasts, respectively. Instilling fiscal discipline The government has made clear its intention on fiscal discipline. In 2015, it expects to hit the 3.2% fiscal deficit target, or RM37bn. Development expenditure is on track at RM47.4bn from its original allocation of RM48.5bn.

  • Historical Development of the Renal Histopathology Services in Malaysia
Malaysian J Pathol 2009; 31(1) : 11 – 16 SPECIAL ARTICLE Historical development of the renal histopathology services in Malaysia Lai-Meng LOOI MD, FRCPath and Phaik-Leng CHEAH MD, FRCPath Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya Abstract Western-style medicine was introduced to Malaya by the Portuguese, Dutch and British between the 1500s and 1800s. Although the earliest pathology laboratories were developed within hospitals towards the end of the 19th Century, histopathology emerged much later than the biochemistry and bacteriology services. The University Departments of Pathology were the pioneers of the renal histopathology diagnostic services. The Department of Pathology, University of Malaya (UM) received its first renal biopsy on 19 May 1968. Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) and Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) started their services in 1979 and 1987 respectively. It is notable that the early services in these University centres caterred for both the university hospitals and the Ministry of Health (MOH) until the mid-1990s when MOH began to develop its own services, pivoted on renal pathologists trained through Fellowship programmes. Currently, key centres in the MOH are Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Sultanah Aminah Hospital Johor Bahru and Malacca Hospital. With the inclusion of renal biopsy interpretation in the Master of Pathology programmes, basic renal histopathology services became widely available throughout the country from 2000. This subsequently filtered out to the private sector as more histopatholo- gists embraced private practice. There is now active continuing professional development in renal histopathology through clinicopathological dicussions, seminars and workshops. Renal research on amyloid nephropathy, minimal change disease, IgA nephropathy, fibrillary glomerulonephritis, lupus nephritis and microwave technology have provided an insight into the patterns of renal pathology and changing criteria for biopsy.

  • A Case Study of Urban Development in Klang Valley Region, Malaysia
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Institutional Repository ASSESSMENT OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND LANDUSE CHANGES’ IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT: A CASE STUDY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN KLANG VALLEY REGION, MALAYSIA Ahris Yaakup Mansor Ibrahim Susilawati Sulaiman Zulherman M.Sosi Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah Universiti Teknologi Malaysia 81300 Skudai, Johor, malaysia Email: [email protected] Abstract The increasing demand for housing, employment opportunities, institutions and other urban facilities and services due to migration of rural and town’s dwellers to urban centres leading to drastic changes of urban land covers is believed to be the main factor contributing to the degradation of environmental qualities, namely the increase in temperature, geohazard occurrences, as well as noise, air and water pollution in urban areas. Analyses using various GIS functions were carried out to illustrate the relationship between urban development as well as land use changes and the degradation of environmental qualities in Klang Valley Region. This paper will look into the impact imposed by urban development and land use change upon the trend of environmental quality described earlier. 1.0 INTRODUCTION The framework for urban development and management can be viewed as a complex system, changes in one area e.g intensification of use or changes in management practice will often lead to change and pressure elsewhere. As such, the need to consider environmental issues in planning and policy-making is of greater concern today considering the impact imposed by development. Environmental impact due to development and urban growth has since act as a check and balance in achieving the so called ‘sustainable development’.

Currently, the Group's smelting facility in Butterworth operates one of the lowest cost smelting plants in the world, converting primary, secondary and often complex tin bearing ores into high purity tin metal for industrial application. The plant has a production capacity of approximately 40,000 tonnes of a refined tin a year which is produced by using reverberatory furnace technology. However, with the rapid development and changes of land use in the surrounding area of current MSC facility in Butterworth, there is a need for MSC to find a suitable new site and set up new facility to relocate the existing operation in Butterworth. In 2016, MSC through its subsidiary M Smelt (C) Sdn. Bhd., acquired three parcels of industrial land, plant and machinery inclusive of a production facility in Pulau Indah, Klang.
