For a new New Year’s Resolution why not consider spending more time with the Lord?

What is Eucharisc Adoraon?

The Eucharist is the actual body, blood, soul, and divinity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. By adoring the Eucharist we are reminded in a very tangible way of God’s love for humanity and his promise to mankind, “Behold, I am with you always, unl the end of the age.” (Mt 28:20).

There are 168 HOURS in a week. It takes about 336 people to keep adoraon going 24/7, and another 75 adorers as substutes. That is a total of 411 PEOPLE.

While perpetual adoraon is forever, one’s life changes over me. The Lord understands this, and so do we. Don’t be afraid to commit to adoraon, even if you might have to change your commitment in the future.

Temporary Liturgical Adaptaons during the 2014 Flu/Cold Season

Once more, a parcularly virulent strain of flu (H1N1) and other respiratory contagions are manifesng themselves throughout our naon and here at home, including a growing number of deaths in the county. H1N1 seems most adversely to aack children, healthy young people and pregnant women. Because of this, I have been approached by members of the medical community who have requested that we make a number of temporary adaptaons to our celebraons of the Eucharist, so as to foster the health of our worshipping communies and also of the wider community.

For this reason, I find it necessary to implement the following steps wherever Mass is celebrated in the Diocese of San Jose:

1. For the duraon of the flu/cold/virus season, Holy Communion will not be shared under the form of Consecrated Wine. Concelebrang priests and assisng deacons are to receive the Precious Blood by means of inncon. 2. For the duraon of the flu/cold/virus season, Holy Communion will be distributed only into the hands of communicants; during this me, Holy Communion will not be distributed on the tongue. 3. For the duraon of the flu/cold/virus season, people should not hold hands during the recitaon or singing of the Lord’s Prayer. 4. For the duraon of the flu/cold/virus season, the Sign of Peace should be adapted so as to allow for a greeng that does not involve shaking hands or touching. 5. For the duraon of the flu/cold/virus season, all who administer Holy Communion are to wash their hands with an alcohol-based an- bacterial soluon, such as Purell, before and aer they administer the Sacrament. This precauon also extends to those who minister to the homebound. 6. These adaptaons are to remain in effect throughout the Diocese unl condions allow me to rescind them.

The Director of Public Health has assured me that these precauons are once again necessary so that we can do our part to foster the health and safety of our people. In conjuncon with this, when you explain these adapted procedures to your people, please remind then that the obliga- on to parcipate in Sunday Mass does not hold for those who are seriously ill, and that it would be especially prudent for anyone who has fever, cough or other such symptoms to remain at home. Please refer to the arcle, "Liturgy, Cold, and the Flu: Common Sense Pracces," which Diana Macalintal has recently circulated throughout the Diocese.

Thank you for your immediate aenon to these maers and for undertaking the catechesis that will be necessary to introduce these adapta- ons to your parishes and other communies as soon as possible, but no later than the weekend of January 18/19. 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 7 Page 8 Our Lady of Peace January 19, 2014 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 9
