Journey through Scouting:

An Interview with Andrew Olsen Like most young boys, Andrew joined Boy Scouts because he wanted to hang out with his friends, and it sounded like something exciting to do after school. Andrew says that scouting has helped him grow as a person by teaching him responsibility, the necessity for hard work, and the feeling of success. He also says that scouting has taught him to work with oth- ers in many different circumstances. Most of all, he has learned a lot of leadership skills. Andrew states, “I have learned that anything worth getting requires hard work and responsibility on my part. I must always do my share, and I will get from life only what I put into it.” Andrew has earned twenty-one merit badges which are needed to obtain an Eagle Scout Award. Some of his merit badges are First Aid, Citizenship in your Community, Nation and World, Family Life, Emergency Preparedness, Personal Management, Personal Fitness, Environmental Science, etc. The merit badge Andrew enjoyed earning the most was his Motor Boating badge because he got to master the skills of boating and enjoyed actually driving the motor boat. An- drew says his most difficult merit badge to earn was his Personal Management badge because it required him to be organized, and budget his own finances. Andrew states that his parents inspired him to become an Eagle Scout, “They told me I could not date or drive until I got my Eagle Scout badge.” Most of all, Andrew wanted to complete his scouting career. “My Eagle Scout project came about because last year, on one of our outdoor lab days, Mr. Wambach said he wanted someone to put in a new trail, but he could not find anyone to do it. I had just moved to Castle North Middle School and needed a project, so I told him that I would be up for the challenge,” says Andrew. Andrew plans to continue working with his scout troop in order to earn his Eagle Palms, and to help other boys reach their goals in scouting.

CASTLE NORTH MIDDLE SCHOOL WOULD LIKE TO GIVE ANDREW OLSEN A BIG “THANK YOU” FOR THE BEAUTIFUL TRAIL AND BRIDGE!
