Papaksain ng aming seminar ang Mga Susing Salita: Pambansang Seminar sa Pagbuo ng Diskurso sa Konseptong Filipino. Bahagi ang gawaing ito sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika ng Sentro ng Wikang Filipino na may temang Wikang Filipino: Daluyan ng Pambansang Pagkakakilanlan at Pagkakaisa. Magiging kasamang tagapagtaguyod ng SWF-UPD ang Opisina ng Tsanselor-Diliman, Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas ng Kolehiyo ng Arte at Literatura, Departamento ng Linggwistiks ng Kolehiyo ng Agham Panlipunan at Pilosopiya, UP Erya ng Araling Wika ng Kolehiyo ng Edukasyon, at DZUP. Kaisa din sa gawaing ito ang Kolehiyo ng Musika at ang Center for International Studies. Gaganapin ang seminar sa Agosto 24-25, 2017 sa Awditoryum ng Kolehiyo ng Edukasyon, Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, Diliman, Lungsod Quezon.

Ang Mga Susing Salita ang kauna-unahang pambansang seminar na nakatuon sa pagbuo ng kaalaman gamit ang rnga konseptong nakapaloob sa isang susing salita na hango sa anumang wika sa Pilipinas. Aanyayahan ang rnga kilala at batikang rnga iskolar, manunulat at mananaliksik mula sa iba't ibang akademikong disiplina na magbabahagi ng kanilang karanasan at kaalaman sa paggamit sa wikang Filipino sa pananaliksik at pagtuturo.

Para sa inyong kaalaman, ang SWF-UPD ay isang opisina sa ilalim ng Opisina ng Tsanselor na nagtataguyod ng rnga proyekto ukol sa pagpapayabong ng wikang Filipino at sa patakarang pangwika ng UP. Isa sa rnga tungkulin ng SWF ay rnagtaguyod sa rnga gawain ng rnga akademiko para sa mas mahusay, mabilisan, at malaganap na paggamit ng Filipino bilang wikang panturo sa pamamagitan ng pagtataguyod ng rnga seminar-workshop, forum, kumperensiya, at lektyur na pangwika sa iba't ibang disiplina na gumagamit ng wikang Filipino. From a Theater of Conflict and Division to a Theater of Peace and Unitv: Recontextualizinq Komedva throuqh Putri Anak, lsanq Baqonq Komedya

Music, dance, and theater artists from the University of the Philippines combine their talents in recontextualizing the Komedya, also called moro-moro among the Tagalogs, in the re-staging of a new play entitled Pufri Anak, /sang Bagong Komedya on August 25 to 27 and September 1 to 3 at UP Diliman at 3pm and 7pm. To be presented by the UP College of Music and the UP Center for International Studies, the production is one of the year-long series of events celebrating the UP College of I\Jlusicls centennial year.

PuMAnakfeatures a composite text from the celestial maiden narratives common in South East Asian cultures and showcases performance elements adapted mostly from the San Dionisio Komedya, which includes, among others, the dicho, loa, marcha, pasadoble, sinfahan, laban, and gran bafalla.

The production also showcases Komedya movements, enhanced by Filipino and Southeast Asian performance traditions, with inspiration taken from Indonesia's Tari Java (Javanese court dance), India's Bharata Natyam, and the martial arts sagayan, arnis, and penc_ak.silat. - -- - The music for the play draws inspiration from traditional Southeast Asian music in tandem with western instruments commonly used in the traditional komedya to reference soundscapes that mark popular theater forms, rituals, and ceremonies in Southeast Asia.

Philippine Theatre Scholar and Art Critic Nicanor G. Tiongson notes that the Komedya's popularity has "eroded" and that the local theater form has "lost its magic and appeal" with the rise of other forms of entertainment.

As its lead innovation, the Bagong Komedya responds to the need for a contemporary Filipino performance by combining the rich music and performance traditions of the Philippines and its Asian neighbors that will hopefully be appreciated by the more cosmopolitan taste of a present-day audience according to director Jina Umali, Asian theater scholar. Angela Baguilat and Jeremy de la C'ruz, the production's co-directors, created the choreography to the music composed by Verne de la PeAa.

The script is the work of Enrique S. Villasis and Juan Ekis. Grace Jaramillo of the Komedya ng San Dionisio and theater researcher Bryan Viray provided the dramaturgy. The UP Tugtugang Musika Asyatika (UP TUGMA) and the UP Dance Company are the featured performers providing the music and the accompanying movements.

The music, according to de la PeAa, is inspired by traditional and hybridized Southeast Asian music forms. The Philippine kulinfang is used as springboard of the music of the play and references musical styles present in theater forms such as randai, norah, mak yong as well as rituals and ceremonies such as the caiiao, sagayan and sinulog . The half-sung, half-declaimed rhyming verse of. the narrative text is woven into the dialogue, based on the dicho of the San Dionisio Komedya, and interspersed with a few songs.

The shift from a theatre of conflict and division to one of unity is another of the Bagong Komedya's innovation. While the traditional form focused on "the conflict between Moors and Christians in the medieval kingdoms of Europe and the Middle East," according to art critic Dr. Nicanor Tiongson, Putri Anak seeks to present a theatre of peace and unity, free of religion-based discrimination and violence, and which. instead celebrates Asian culture, heritage and artistic expression.

As a theatre of peace, the work turns its back on rrTutual religion-based animosity between Filipino Christians and Muslims. As a theatre of unity, Putri Anak bridges the gap separating the Philippines from its ASEAN neighbors' theater traditions due to strong Western influences in themes, setting, plots, costumes, characters, and music.
