Il nous offre en souvenir de lui l’image d’un grand défenseur du cinéma, défenseur acharné de l’exception culturelle française, au-delà même du seul cinéma français dont il était l’avocat incontour- nable. Homme de tous les talents, de verbe et d’action, cet ambassadeur inébranlable du 7e Art savait cristalliser les passions comme personne. Son parcours de producteur est parsemé de chefs d’œuvres, qui sont ceux des cinéastes qu’il a produits comme Maurice Pialat, Satyajit Ray, Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman. « Sous le soleil de Satan » fut couronné d’une Palme d’Or au 40e Festival de Cannes. En parallèle, qui ne saurait reconnaître la marque puissante qu'il a laissée dans d'autres cénacles tout aussi indispensables au rayonnement du cinéma français, comme Unifrance ou les César. Et comment ne pas oublier, surtout, la richesse de ses relations avec tous ceux chez qui il reconnaissait, au premier coup d'œil, la passion du cinéma : les artistes, au premier rang, bien entendu, mais tellement d'autres également, du jeune producteur frais émoulu dans la carrière jusqu'à un Président de la République cinéphile, si différents, et qu'il réussissait pourtant à réunir au service de cette passion qui le dévorait… C’est ce puissant héritage qui a mené l'Académie à la création d’un Prix qui porterait son nom, tout en mettant en valeur celles et ceux, qui comme lui, sont les passeurs indispensables des talents de la création cinématographique : les Producteurs. Le guide des producteurs de l'année, que vous allez découvrir dans les pages suivantes, au- delà de l'outil de vote indispensable qu'il représente pour les jurés du « Prix Daniel Toscan du Plantier », rassemble ainsi le meilleur de la production du cinéma français. Voici donc les 152 productrices et producteurs du cinéma français de l’année 2009, fer de lance du dynamisme de l'industrie cinématographique, et à qui je transmets ma sincère admiration pour la qualité du travail qu'ils ont accompli, cette année encore, pour permettre l'émergence de ce foisonnement de films qui caractérise notre cinématographie nationale.     Days of Glory and Outside the Law: Counter-Historical Remembrances1 MOURAD el FAHLI INTRODUCTION French mainstream cinema has always celebrated and memorialized the resistance and heroism of white French soldiers and citizens, overlooking the decisive and vital contributions of the colonized to the independence of France and Europe in general from the Nazi regime. This erasure of the subaltern is the product of a Eurocentric History (with capital H) that “Appropriates the cultural and material production of non-Europeans while denying both their achievements and its own appropriation.” (Shohat and Stam 1994: pp 2, 3) Yet, via their films, French-Maghrebi filmmakers challenge and deconstruct such Eurocentric History through counter-filmmaking, screening a revisionist programme of alternative remembrance. This article will examine the ways Maghrebi diasporas in France through the example of Days of Glory and Outside the Law by Rachid Bouchareb re-represents and visualize their reality within France before and after its independence from the Nazi regime. The article will, thus, have three major sections. The first section revisits current debates on the rapport film, history and memory. It introduces the notion of historical remembrance in an attempt to depart from the dichotomy of memory/history. The second one examines French cinema in the occupation period; the purpose throughout is to illustrate the occultation of the Maghrebi soldiers and Africans in general from these narratives. The last section underlines the rewriting of History by French-Maghrebi filmmakers through the example of Rachid Bouchareb Days of Glory and Outside the Law. FROM MEMORY TO HISTORICAL REMEMBRANCE: Film theory and criticism have inherited the kind of questions and debates that characterized the other six arts; the relationship between artistic and historical narratives was- and is still-a major issue in these discussions.
