Handbook and Directory for Rotarians in District 9350 2017 – 2018 0 Rotary International President 2017-2018 Ian Riseley Ian H. S. Riseley is a chartered accountant and principal of Ian Riseley and Co., a firm he established in 1976. Prior to starting his own firm, he worked in the audit and management consulting divisions of large accounting firms and corporations. A Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Sandringham, Victoria, Australia since 1978, Ian has served Rotary as treasurer, director, trustee, RI Board Executive Committee member, task force member, committee member and chair, and district governor. Ian Riseley has been a member of the boards of both a private and a public school, a member of the Community Advisory Group for the City of Sandringham, and president of Beaumaris Sea Scouts Group. His honors include the AusAID Peacebuilder Award from the Australian government in 2002 in recognition of his work in East Timor, the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the Australian community in 2006, and the Regional Service Award for a Polio-Free World from The Rotary Foundation. Ian and his wife, Juliet, a past district governor, are Multiple Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, and Bequest Society members. They have two children and four grandchildren. Ian believes that meaningful partnerships with corporations and other organizations are crucial to Rotary’s future. “We have the programs and personnel and others have available resources. Doing good in the world is everyone’s goal. We must learn from the experience of the polio eradication program to maximize our public awareness exposure for future partnerships. Governments see Rotary as positive representatives of a civil society. We should work with them to advocate for peace and conflict resolution.” 1 District Governor 2017-2018 Lynette Stassen and Koos Lynette’s current life centres around being a Rotarian and her family. Rotary entered into Lynette’s life 12 years ago when she was invited to become a member. She served in various Rotary positions, both on Club level (Community; Membership; Foundation and President) and on District level (Membership: Vocational and Assistant Governor) and feels honoured, privileged and energised to become the District Governor in 2017-2018. Her early years were spent in front of books and resulted in many exciting opportunities. An Alumni of 4 universities, she tackled and completed degrees in Science; Datametrics; Electronic Engineering and an MBA. These learnings opened interesting doors in the business world and she spent 25 years in a variety of engineering, consulting and managerial positions with big corporations and universities. Her professional career ended as managing director of a \small non- profit. Koos was the general Counsel Chief Legal Adviser of a large financial services company before he retired. Prior to that career he served in academia as a professor of banking law and lectured at a large university. Their two children blessed them with 3 grandchildren. Pieter, a legal consultant with an electronic publishing business and Yandi, a fulltime mother with an artistic vocation, are both in South Africa and the family ties are very close. Lynette sees Rotary as the best gift ever that she gave herself. “By joining Rotary in 2005, I entered the most rewarding part of my life, getting involved in the community and making a difference through Rotary’s many avenues of service. Rotary changed me and my life forever.” 2 A message from Governor Lynette , Koos and Lynette Stassen and Ian and Juliet Riseley My dear fellow Rotarians, Rotary: making a difference is our theme and focus for 2017-2018. It is a very simple, yet very wise call to action. To me as the D9350 Governor for 2017-2018 it inspires me. I pledge to listen to clubs on how they want to make a difference, to listen to the youth who want to make a difference in the world; to listen to the District committees on what they need to make a difference and to the District leadership team on the changes to be made to make a difference. Our District has many committed and passionate Rotarians who have been making a difference for many years through their clubs, on committees and in teams. This will continue and remain our priorities. We are blessed with a District that is focussed and is running smoothly because of its members. This 2017-2018 Handbook and Directory for Rotarians in District 9350 is a must- read. It has a richness of support and services for you and your clubs. It summarises our District 9350 Strategic Plan 2014-2019. It supplies you with relevant contact information of both Rotary International and your District at a glance. It points you to the resources needed for every committee in our District. It gives you financial know- how and payment methods. It makes you part of the Rotary Brand and its history. It assists with guidelines for induction of new members. It lists the Annual Awards and Trophies including the criteria. But best of all: it inspires you with the 2017-2018 Presidential Citation for Rotary Clubs. The citation is the roadmap of what a successful Rotary Club should focus on. For 2017-2018 it will be my privilege to support and serve you so that we can make a difference in our clubs and in our District. Let us ogether 1. Support and strengthen clubs 2. Focus and increase humanitarian service 3. Enhance Rotary’s public image and awareness I am looking forward to a 2017-2018 Rotary year where we can join as leaders to exchange ideas and take action. A year where the question: “Are we making a difference?” will be answered with a resounding “YES!” Lynette 3 District Governor Elect 2018-2019 Casper Kruger and Wilna (with family Ricardo, Carli and JC) Casper was born in Oranjemund, Namibia when Namibia was still part of South Africa so he is both Namibian and South African.
